The Not Too Early 2025 Draft Thread

Sources: Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan has visited the #Cowboys, #Raiders, #Chargers, #Patriots, #Browns, #Seahawks, #Panthers and #Saints. I'm told he has 3 more visits lined up as well.

One executive from a 2024 playoff team: "He's got true star-level tools and elite production. Our entire building loves him. There's just no way he makes it to us."
There’s years where it seems like we just lay in the weeds and try not to show our hand, this year feels like we’re kind of going all out in making sure this first pick is the right fit and meeting multiple times with all the rumored options.

Not a great overlap for our needs and what the draft likely has to offer at 1.6. Might as well just kick the tires on everyone.

I look at it as creating pathways to trade downs. Damn near every top 15 pick has been in our building and or met with at combine. Hopefully someone loves someone enough to move up. Cross fingers …

Our best options for that are jeanty and shedeur. I could even see a double move back situation. To 10 so bears can come up and get jeanty. Then 21 so Pitt can come grab shedeur.

I don’t know if the Steelers have the amo to make that work. I mean they don’t have a 2nd and we all know they are picking outside the top 20 next year.

A-fuckin-men

I think everything has been sufficiently beat to death.
The NFL has milked the draft as much it can. There's nothing- literally nothing- that teams can or should learn in another two weeks. Some of these guys will fuck up right before the draft but that happens regardless of when the draft takes place. They could have had the draft this weekend, and I bet teams would barely change their draft board. Dragging out to late April is a ploy to keep NFL relevant in offseason.

When it comes to comparing Tet McMillan and Jayden Higgins, preference boils down to what you’re seeking.

McMillan has been more of a threat with ball in his hands and has more prolific numbers as downfield target. But Higgins doesn’t have the focus drops and has far lower contested catch rate - he’s a more consistent separator in short and intermediate game.

McMillan was force fed in Arizona at times and Higgins had Jaylin Noel gobbling up targets, so it’s pretty impressive Higgins had comparable numbers across the board for Iowa State.

The NFL Draft was held in December, January, or February mainly before 1980. The first draft in 1936 took place on February 8. For much of the first 40 years, drafts often occurred in January or February, with some in December.

NFL drafts were not inherently less accurate then.

Just more time to overthink with the current April draft. Yet more time for NFL to stay in the news and drive up ratings in a slow time.
