Tampa and Oakland talking trade?...

I'm not sure how this would work on the draft value charts because I'm far too lazy to look myself and will depend upon you, my minions, to do my bidding for me... but what about this:

Oakland makes the suggested trade with Tampa to move down to #4. Tampa takes CJ as expected, then Oakland trades back up to #2 (Detroit is widely rumored to be interetsed in trading down) which IMO would cost a high 2nd and a high 3rd, then takes JRuss and still has 2 extra picks.

Then Al Davis and Lane Kiffen go on the NFL Network with that shrimply little false rumor-monger Schefter and say Russell was the guy they wanted all along but couldn't pass up the chance to get more picks from TB. Now THAT would be vintage Al.

Yeah, this is my preferred plan, if we are dreaming up trades. The concern of course, is Cleveland.

I honestly don't think it would take a high two and a high three to get Detroit down two spots.

I see no way Cleveland will pass on JaRuss either. I have no idea which way Detroit is leaning.

I think if Marinelli has his way, IMO he'll wind up with Gaines Adams... That Tampa 2 gets picked apart without a consistent pass rush from the front 4... ideally, they'd trade down if possible but with Calvin Johnson off the board, they may not have many options unless the Cards decide they really want Joe Thomas...

It would be something if the Cards took Peterson at 5.... With Leinart, Fitz and Boldin already in place, their skill spots set up pretty damn well with young talent.... If Grim can get that O-line going, we may be looking at the Colts West in a couple of seasons...

What I don't like about a Tampa trade is I know there will be non of the QB's left for us at #4. I know this because this franchise is snakebit, and God hates us. He's not gonna let us have our cake and eat it too... just the way it is.

So I ask, who do we take at #4?

Thomas, Peterson, one a the DE's.... Branch?

I can really go into negative mode on all those guys.

We need a damn QB around here in the worst way... that pinhead Kiper stuck the knife in today on NFL live talking about how if we had taken our QB last season we could have added CJ now :( ... if we pass on the next Elway for some extra 3rd round picks... I'm just not interested.

I hear ya, Byron... but Heschell Walker says hello. Well, he would say hello, but Ricky Williams keeps hogging the phone.

You know what I'm saying?

I sense you're getting as tired of all this talk as I am.
No not really. I was just pulling Stepper's leg cuz he used to use the big "Internet Rumor" disclaimer in the past.

Actually this is one of my favorite times of the year. But yeah at this point I'm ready to see what is going to happen. We've beat this horse sixteen ways to Sunday.

I'm still hoping for a trade down and drafting Brady Quinn but the chance of that happening IMO isn't very good. In the end I think we stay at one and draft Calvin Johnson. That's just Al's way although he'll dance around for a while before finally doing the inevitable.

One thing Al has got to be eyeballing is the contract difference the #1 and #4 pick get. Last year Mario got a 6 year deal, worth up to $62 million ($26.5 million guaranteed) while Ferguson got a 5 year deal for $27.5 million (approx. $17 million guaranteed). Thats a pretty big difference in cost.

The next Elway? Are we serious here?

I'm not saying he's the next Elway, I just dread the thought of these QB's going on to star while we're consolated with a decent OT or another all-world DT that plays when he feels like it.

I'd love to have all those extra picks, but when I think about what Al did with the Gruden bonanza and the crapola we'll still be dealing with at QB... my excitment for dealing waivers.... ya know?

BUCS PLOTTING A PLAY FOR JOHNSON?

John Murphy and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports report that some NFL types believe that the Buccaneers are planning to make a play for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

The selection is currently held by the Raiders, who fleeced the Bucs five years ago out of two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and $8 million for the "rights" to coach Jon Gruden.

"I definitely get the feeling that's where the Bucs are going," an executive from another NFL team told Yahoo!

Though we realize that much of our own stuff comes from unnamed executives and other league sources, it's hard to put much credence in the above quote without knowing who said it. The Browns, for example, would have a strong interest in seeing such a deal go down, since it would ensure that either quarterback JaMarcus Russell or quarterback Brady Quinn will be available when Cleveland picks at No. 3.

Per the report, there is also speculation that the Bucs have offered four first-day picks (No. 4, No. 35, No. 64, and No. 68) for the No. 1 pick. Under the trade chart, however, that quartet of picks falls 130 points short of the value of the first overall selection. As a result, the Bucs would have to give up all of their remaining picks -- with the exception of two compensatory picks at the bottom of round seven -- to make up the entire difference.

Bottom line: If Al Davis is going to give up the No. 1 pick to two of his former employees (Gruden and G.M. Bruce Allen), it will have to be on the Raiders' terms. We wouldn't be surprised to see Davis ask for all of Tampa's picks in 2007 and a first-rounder in 2008.

And we also wouldn't be surprised to see the Bucs give all of it up; for Gruden and Allen, having to worry about not having a first-round pick in 2008 will be a good thing, since it will mean that they did well enough in 2007 to still have jobs.

wow.... that would certainly be worth the price of having the front of my pants resewn....

First things first, if J Russ is the next John Elway then I'm the next I'm the next Gen. Mac Arthur!! That is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. Russ is lucky to be the next Drew Bledsoe!!

Second, this draft is deep in the positions we need and to have 4- 3rd round picks is sick!!, not too mention 2-2nd rounders and still own a Top 5 pick. Lots of room to fill holes and still rape the guys who we dis-like soooooo much.

3rd, iI find it highly unlikely that both Quinn and Russell will be gone by pick 4. And if so, WHO GIVES A SHIT?!?! To walk outta round one with A Peterson ( keep away from Denver), Gaines Adams or Joe Thomas (we do own a weak O-line) can't be a bad thing. Add to that, that possiblity that with an extra high second and 3 tradeable 3rds, we can move back into round 1 to snatch up a Jarvis Moss, Levi Brown, Marshawn Lynch or Ted Ginn, then the deal is a no brainer AS IS! If we can pull a #1 next year too and maybe Jake Plummer then it is a typical GREAT TRADE WE ALL DREAM OF!

If we make this deal, as is and we can walk away with Quinn at #4, Levi Brown in the Top 10, Marcus Thomas in the 2nd round, and with 3 3rds end up with Johnnie Lee Higgins, Eric Wright and Tim Crowder then the draft is winner wit the 2nd day yet to go. We cant help but win in this scenario with Kiffen and Knapp keeping Al in check.

If that's on the table, shit. As much as I like Russell, I'd take that.

4
33

With pick 100 waiting on day two.

That is LOADED.

I'm not even going to start running names and scenarios there 'cause there are tons of things that would make me happy.

I hear ya, Byron... but Heschell Walker says hello. Well, he would say hello, but Ricky Williams keeps hogging the phone.

You know what I'm saying?

Sure, but Dallas did have a "franchise QB" in Troy Aikman. That dude could play a little himself.

Now I know where Crow gets his weed from.

Then again, all Tampon's 2007 picks, plus their 2008 first !!! Shit, I'd hit that too.

Kiffin & Al would have this team in the playoff's in 2008 - no doubt in my mind. With that many picks we could get 1 or even 2 quality prospects at basically every need position.

OL, DE, DT, QB, WR, TE, Safety...All of them.

That would be hard to pass and IFFFF Detroit or Cleveland blinked at QB (remember, Crennell must win this year....I could see an Adrian Petersen here.) we could still end up with either Russell or Quinn.

I'm suddenly getting cold feet about JaMarcus Russell even though I've been stumping for him the past month or so...Hhmm...not sure why either?
