Super Bowl Game Thread.

thomas jones and brian westbrook are franchise running backs, but whatever. you're gonna slight this all day and be obtuse about it as usual. i dare not waste time with your tactics 007. hope u enjoyed the game, have a good night man.

They might be franchise backs, but would you spend the first pick in the draft on a guy like Jones or Westbrook?

I know I wouldnt. I would however spend the pick on guys like Manning and Elway.

You can call me names all you wan't but don't take the high road right after and tell me to have a good night, to make yourself appear 'better'.

Sometimes I wonder if you have thick enough skin for a message board...

Fug that no talent, money costing, bet losing scrub Rex Grossman... The Bears might have been better off pulling Prince off the stage and playing him at QB...

Now we get to enjoy the Goober Manning media ball washing for a whole year...

It was spookily similar to the BCS title game with the opening kickoff going for a TD, but then that team getting outplayed.

I give a lot of credit to that Indy Oline, they kept Manning upright with time to throw and opened some very nice lanes on the way to 191 yards rushing. The TD pass Manning threw was a completely blown coverage. Grossman not only failed to make good plays he made a lot of horrible plays.

Nips said wanker. :D

I knew without a shadow of a doubt when I said this that the inevitable references to Trent Dilfer and Rob Johnson were on their way. Well it's bullshit. Dilfer was a smart SOB with a good arm. I liken him to Plunkett who go the shit beat out of him in his first 4-5 years in this league and it took forever for him to get his confidence back. I'd take Dilfer over Walter or Brooks in a heart beat.

This is the year the Raiders finally gamble on a quarterback high in the draft. The Super Bowl was the perfect example of why it's important. Manning never panicked he just sliced up the great Bears defense like a surgeon. There are many more examples of very good QB's winning Super Bowls than the two that always get tossed around.

Agreed.

I would argue that Dilfer WAS the elite QB of that game.

i dont know, the colts defense stepped up big imo. and its them fixing the run defense issues that propelled them through the playoffs.
I disagree.

I think Limee has it right. 2 factors handed this game to the Colts.

1. Their o-line absolutely stoned the CHI defense. In the passing game they were a brick wall and in the running game they were a claymore mine.

2. Rex Grossman's incompetence was staggering. He's the one who made the Colts' defense look all-world. I mean, how fucking hard does a defense have to work when the QB is handing them the ball every series? They should have put Griese in to start the 2nd half.

Never called you anything. you are "being" obtuse behavior wise. not meant as a personal attack, just the adjective for how you act about this stuff. thicken up your own skin 007, mines is just fine. There is no higher road. And there is no picture for me to paint myself as an angel. I choose not to get into the QB/RB discussion with you because you slight on things until someone calls you out on it, then proceed to slight on to something else. Furthermore you try to paint someone else has being hardcore on the other side of your opinion so you can play the "we are both extreme jerks so no one is better than anyone else" card as if thats what its about.

The shit is tired and lame just to me. You dont like me being tired of it, then oh fucking well. Not much i can do for you. I never told you to stop it, grow up, or anything else in that manner. Yet somehow you're offended by me saying take your dispute and the antics that come with it to someone else(theres plenty of people here). Even SoCal is willing to chop it up with you on that tip, yet thats not enough? LOL  Maybe you need help. I think an ignore button should be sufficient. its not like you post anything i'd feel bad about missing out on.

No doubt and no argument with that, but he was a mediocre question mark before his mini playoff run much more mediocre in peoples opinions more than than rex at the time(many a choke jobs in tampa earned it). they took the game out of his hands and took shots once Jamal Lewis hand defenses on their heels. And Jamal Lewis proved to be an elite rb then and even after that SB. Dilfer went back to being Dilfer.

Sounds like you laid some coin on this game. lol..Manning is god of the universe and all other peasants must ride his testes to the promised land in hicksville Indiana. ~sigh~

Dilfer was a smart SOB with a good arm.
theres a ton of browns and bucs fans that would beef with you over that. but to each his own there. his stats dont reflect a smart qb imo. nor has much of what i've seen from him. The arm isnt garbage, but his accuracy is debatable.

I disagree.

actually we're both right. all of the above happened. Also the rain played a great unexpected factor for the colts. i thought the bears woulda been more prepared for the rain, but they were not.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that having a good/great QB increases your chances of winning a SB.

This is the guy that touches the rock every play. This is guy that will be expected to lead your team to victory when you're down by 6 with 2 mintues to go.

If the Raiders conclude that Russell/Quinn are worth the risk, then I will back them 100%.

Agreed.

And if they decide Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson are the top prospects who fill the biggest needs, I'll be right there to cheer them on come draft day.

At this point there is only two realistic names I'll be dissapointed with in the top 5-7 picks....Ted Ginn and Gaines Adams (I think Anderson is the better prospect and there is HUGE value later on at the DE position)

It would be nice if we could maybe move into the late first for Carriker the DE from Nebraska. 300+ and can move all of it.

I was thinking about Ginn after watching Hester return that kick last night and thinking that he'd be the kind of draft pick that Al covets.

Exactly.

Especially if he fires his rumored 4.35 or under at the combine...

I dont want him in Silver and Black, and wouldnt touch him in the first two rounds.

Fuckin rights it would be.

He's is one mean prospect and looks exactly like Tyler Brayton should have become...

He seems like he can stop the run and get around the corner and go after the QB. I wouldnt be suprised to see us use a high pick on the defense to help bolster the run stopping. We might have to if a really good player falls out of the first round. If we snagged Paul Pusz #33 overall we would have a sick LB core. There could aslo be a slipping FS, DT or DE. I wont complain if we have to go BPA at times in this draft. We need to build for the future not just next season. I also could see Al falling in love witht he 19 year old DT. He might be the next Sapp, who better to mentor.

Agreed.

Each new mock coming out has guys like Pozluszny, Quinton Moses, Carriker, and even Patrick Willis falling...Not because of their talent, but because something like 7 WR's (Johnson/Jarrett/Ginn/Bowe/Rice/Meachem/Gonzo) and 7 O lineman (Brown/Staley/Thomas/Sears/Grubbs/Kalil/Ugoh/Blaylock etc.) could push some key defensive talent down...

I'm so excited about this draft, its silly.

I keep on thinking of different scenarios that net us AP and Zach Miller OR Russell AND Posluzny...We could make a BIG leap forward in April...

AP is going to be such a beast. I really hope we trade down and take him #3 overall and get and 2nd.

Don't get me wrong, everyone knows my stance on needs... But I will reiterate that AP and CJ are the best overall prospects.

He could be the next LT/LJ.

If we traded down to the 3-4th pick and snagged a second rounder, plus Chazz' and Gabes' mid round compensation, plus a 3rd for Randy Moss...That could net us at least 2-4 possible starters for the future.

Boneriffic.

I was just looking at the DE's and someone good is going ot be there with our 2nd pick. Carriker, Moses, Moss, the ND guy. The first three rounds are full of guys who could play and possibly start next season.

Rnd1 #3 AP RB Oklahoma
Rnd2 #33 Carriker DE Nebraska
#35 Z.Miller TE Arizona State (from browns)
#48 B.Leonard FB/RB Rutgers (from GB, Moss)
3rd. #67 T.Ugoh RT Arkansas
#99 Steve Smith Wr USC (for Woody)
4th. #100+ Kyle Young C Fresno State

Damn this wont happen, but wouldnt that be the best draft ever. For my last pipe dream... trade Porter/Lamont and a 5th for David Carr.

^Wow^

That would be the best draft imaginable.
