Sup Draft

Kosar (Pro Bowl 11 yr career)
Bosworth (started out well...)
Bobby Humphrey (Started out a Pro Bowler)
Cris Carter (Top 10 all time Wide receiver
Jamal Williams (The best NT in the game, IMO)
Rob Moore, (2 Pro Bowls, 10+ years)
Mike Wahle (Pro Bowl)
Ahmad Brooks (Looks great, is only 22.)

The years in between those guys draft years isnt all that pretty though. I'd have to say that a day one pick aint worth it. Also ahmad brooks jury is still out imo.

Thats why I said it looks like its about a one in three chance of landing a solid guy. If Kiff and Snead think Oliver is worth the risk, so be it.

Isnt the jury still out on all rookies?

The guy looked absolutely beastly in the few games I watched. You cant forget the dude was a 21 year old rookie and the youngest starting LB in the league.

He's gonna make Cincy forget about Odell Thurman real fast.

Explain that math please? I mean solid would have to mean day one pick worthy, which is what we are talking about. i see the odds as lower than that personally based on the years in between each day one pick worthy signing.

Great, you made my point. So why did you put him on that list if we are in agreement that the jury's still out? Make all the predictions you want, but all i was saying is that he didn't count, making that list thinner and me more skeptical about blowing a day one pick on a supplemental draft guy. Not really looking for a Ahmad Brooks vs Odel Thurman pissing match of epic meaninglessness into the bungel pits of message board Armageddon of cyber pain and destructive DOOM BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Just saying is all. :)

....as for Gaither, if this guy is a first round talent at OT, it does make some sense to draft him now IMO. Particularly with the possibility that Robert Gallery could be moved to OG.

Gaither (and even possibly Henderson) could get his feet wet at the NFL level immediately and would presumeably be ready to be a solid starter in 2008.

This paragraph (If you could call it that) made no sense to me.

I don't even know what you just wrote to be honest, but I'll assume you disagreed with me and stated that you don't want to get in a pissing match.

Yeah really. Gaither is a very raw talent. He has the size and mobility to be an elite NFL LT. The problem is he has never lived up to that potential. I think he would have had a break out season this year at MD. He would have vaulted into the first round IMO. Using a pick on a raw athlete like Gaither is risky because he already has proven he doesnt want to learn. Failing out isnt an indication that he is willing ot work on his game. Its would be worth a 3rd rounder IMO too bad we dont have one... our 4th might do it?

I guess we lost each other since i still dont get the 1 in 3 math you came up with for teams scoring day one talent in the Sup draft. Or the reasoning of pointing to an unproven rookie as an example of the sup paying off for a team. Fair enough I guess.

Along with roughly half of their NFL brethren, the Ravens sent a scouting representative to attend University of Nebraska left offensive tackle Chris Patrick’s campus workout this week, according to his agent Joe Linta.

Under excessively hot conditions, the 6-foot-4, 296-pounder bench-pressed 225 pounds 31 times, ran the 40-yard dash in 5.3 seconds and turned in a 27-inch vertical leap. Patrick played tackle at Nebraska, but likely projects to guard in the NFL because of his size.

Besides the Ravens, other teams that attended the workout included: the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints.

Most scouts project Patrick as a later-round draft choice.

He was originally regarded as a fourth-round selection had he entered the regular draft in April, but, at that time, he was planning to return for his senior year.

Not interested in any sup draft players. They usually have baggage, injuries, etc!! Thank you, NO!!

And i think Al is gonna get Scrabble taken care of, he likes corners waaaay too much!! Look at how long he put up with Woodsons shit!!

Honestly, I would take Gaither and Oliver for our 4th and 5th rounders.

(I think the 2nd rounder is steep, and we don't have a 3rd rounder)

I doubt they are around that late in the sup draft though...

Those guys have huge ceilings, and Oliver would be a legitimate talent in case Asomugha bolts for big time money in 2008.

And Gaither is 6-9 340. And he isnt a puss like Langston Walker...

I'd prefer Gaither. We just drafted a franchise QB and a potential franchise RB.

Apparently he is still flip floppin. I would be all for putting our 4th or 5th rounder in their for a good player who fills a big need.

Should have seen this first....

It's official, Jared Gaither, a starting offensive lineman on Maryland's football team the last two years, has been declared academically ineligible for this fall's season.

DD.comment: As we wrote in yesterday's blog, Gaither's strong prefence was to stay in school and improve his draft stock. Now that he's lost all hope of playing this season that "might" change and he could declare for the upcoming Supplemental draft. We'll keep a close eye on this situation and report any news as soon as we get it

Maryland junior offensive tackle Jared Gaither is leaving school early to apply for entry into the 2007 NFL supplemental draft, according to a press release from the university.

The 6-foot-9, 350-pound Gaither was recently declared academically ineligible for the upcoming college football season.

"This was a decision I came to after sitting down with my family and reviewing my academic situation," Gaither said. "I felt my best option now was to enter the supplemental draft, though I would like to come back and get my degree."

Gaither played in 23 of 24 games at Maryland, starting 17 in his two seasons as a Terp.

"It's a decision he's put a lot of thought into," coach Ralph Friedgen said. "He's expressed a desire to get his degree, but I think the opportunity to make a living and the chance to be successful at the next level was a deciding factor.

"We wish him the best of luck and hope he achieves success in the NFL and in life."

Any NFL team that selects a player in the supplemental draft loses their corresponding pick in the following year's NFL draft. The draft will take place on July 12.

Hard to overlook 6'9 350 when your the Raiders. Late round gem anyone? He would of likely been a first rounder next year if he had a good senior season. The guy is a mountain.

My guess would be somebody is going to use a day 1 pick on Gaither. Doubt its us. We already are going to carry 1 developmental offensive tackle on the 53-man roster this year in Henderson. It would be hard to carry 2 such guys cause I'm thinking at this late stage this year would almost be a redshirt for him. I guess we could always do what the Broncos do and stash 1 of them on IR but then it kind of makes this a wasted year in terms of development.

I'd much rather give up a 2nd for Oliver, we need depth at CB, he'd be a great nickleback for us...

Aso, Washington, Huff, Oliver would be a terrific backfield

Theres some good OT in next years draft we can get in either rd 1 or 2

It would make the most sense to see what we got in Henderson 1st

Nips for real, this guy must be the cat's ass then. I can't no way in hell justify giving up a second or third for any player in any sup draft. There is no one worth mortgaging the future 2nd round pick. I mean the bungels only used a 3rd on Brooks last year

Throw a 5th on Gaither and see what happens. I can't imagine, however, that at 6'9/350lbs he would be seen as a good fit in the ZBS.
