I have some thoughts, but also some questions for my fellow Raider fans.

Quarterbacks--McCown/Russell/Walter. Well, has any position improved more in a day? Jeff Otis, we hardly knew ye.....Mr. Booty, I will always remember you fondly, because you always reminded me of Al Bundy in the Ford Fairlane movie (Booty Town, Booty Town, 'cross the USA...). I think our opinions on this bunch will vary wildly during the summer and the season. I do think that Al gave a 4th round pick to DET for a reason, and it wasn't Mike Williams. McCown gets a 1 year audition for the rest of the NFL. Could he stick after 07 as a backup? Sure, but that's not the plan. I think, barring an exceptional summer from Walter, or unless Russell proves more ready than we thought, this is your week 1 starter. You can knock 15 sacks of that total of 72 last year, this guys legs will avoid at least that many.

Running Back--I really don't think Bush is a statement about Jordan. I think Kiffin remembers LenDale Weight, Al remembers Okoye and Word, and this was a value pick, plus I am sure Al loved making a splash on Day 2. I admit, I am not as excited about this pick as others. I am cautiosly optimistic. We'll see. Those big backs tend to get slower in the pros. Or everyone gets faster, one of the two. I feel a little Nick Bell vibe off this guy. Hope I am wrong. Dominic Rhodes was one of the savviest offseason moves this team could have made. He is going to fit the disciplined, one-cut system, and beat out Lamont by week 3. I hope Fargas sticks. I am guessing unless we need the money, Orenthal gets cut, and practice squaded til next year. One more year for Zack! Man, Rhodes, Griffith, Bush. Huge, huge upgrade.

Wide Receiver--I am less concerned with who actually makes the team, and how many roster spots these people take up. WRs, WR/TE hybrids, blah blah blah. If we are cutting a Chris Morris or a Chad Slaughter because some 6'3", 228 pound guy without a position makes the team, I am pissed. Porter is a mystery to me. I thought that he showed surprising restraint during the season last year. Never said a word. Could go either way with this guy. I would not be surprised to see him try and assume a leadership role, with Randy gone, and all the new faces. I like that BMW comes in with no expectations. He's a lottery ticket, IMO. Short money, maybe he becomes a possesion guy. Why not, another Raider reclamation project. I hope Morant makes this team.

Tight Ends--Looks like it's going to be Miller, Stewart, and......Madsen. Once I read that the Raiders save 1 mill on the cap if Courtney was cut or traded, I scratched him off the depth chart. I love him as a 3rd TE but $1 million? Buh-Bye. I gotta be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing Wakefield as our 3rd TE here. I think he's my selection for the Adopt-a-Scrub offseason program. Guy plays OT, TE, and DE, we gotta find a home for him, right? Again, major improvements here. Stewart is going to be a nice addition, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more PT than Miller early on.

Offensive Line--So we'll find out if Art, Slater and Eatman took chicken salad and made chickenshit. New line coach, which I think will affect the running game more than passs pro. New OC, which will hopefully affect the pass pro. No more 7 step drops, till we prove we can stop he defense from pinning their ears back. It became a vicious cycle last year. The DL smelled blood, so just picked a spot 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage, and ran there. Bang, there was Andrew, finishing his drop. No idea how it shakes out, because there are just too many possibilities. I am really rooting for gallery, but I'm beginning to get that not-so-fresh feeling.

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?

Give us your WR depth chart:

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets:

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be?

I think it might be sooner than most think. I wouldnt be surprised if he starts in week 1 especially considering we have the Lions, Broncos, Browns and Dolphins before our bye in week 5.

Like I posted over at KFFL, I think what the Raiders are going to do is play very safe football, quick releases, run the ball and an occassional deep toss. I dont think theres any reason to sit him for 8 weeks. He will be okay early on, Safe, Safe football

We should concentrate on TOP, and eliminating our turnovers.. punt if ya gotta, just dont turn the ball over.

If we can limit our TO's to a very low %, with this defense we should be in position to win any game we play, whether we d0 or not is a different matter

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?

Jordan
Rhodes
Fargas
Griffith
Crockett

Oneal will be a practice squader and Bush will be a PUP candidate

Give us your WR depth chart:

Porter
Curry
BMW
Morant
Gabriel
Higgens Jr
Madsen

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?I can see him starting late in the season maybe after a couple losses. Then again I have a feeling he may actually beat out McCown? HELL I DON'T KNOW

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?I see Jordon and Rhoades being the 1-2 punch with some Bush and Fargas mixed in. I don't see Zack on this team at all, I think Griffith is the starter ar FB. and these will be the only RB/FB I see here.

Give us your WR depth chart:
It has to be something close to this.
Porter - Lock to Start, he can do deep and catch the outs.
Curry - he is the interior pass catcher we lacked with Porter and Moss on the field at the same time like 2yrs ago.
William/ Gab for the 3rd WR they may switch it up depending on the situation. Gab for the 3 & Long and Williams for the 3 & Short stuff.
I like Morant and hope he makes it other then that I really don't care who else makes it as long as they can play ST and catch the ball,,,,

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets I like his chances to have about 4 to 6 a game if McCown starts, will have him as a safety net when plays break down. I still think Madsen can produce here, with Miller as a decoy Madsen could go deep against a slower LB.

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be? This is tough since so many of these guys didn't play well or weren't experienced enough for mr to make that call. I like Grove and think Gallery can turn things around. I see it being Sims, Boothe/Grove, Newberry, Carlisle, Gallery

Name the Opening Day starting lineup:
McCown - QB
Porter - WR1
Curry - WR2
Miller - TE
Sims - LT
Boothe - LG
Newberry - C
Carlisle - RG
Gallery -RT

Burgess - LE
Sands - DL
Sapp - DL
Brayton - RE
Williams - OLB
Morrison - ILB
Howard - OLB
Aso - CB1
Washington - CB2
Huff - SS

I'm surprised to see you guys picking Newberry for our starting center. I think it's safe to say that he will not be the starter come opening day. He was brought in as a backup to Grove. I mean, he missed the entire 06 season. He's way past his prime. So I'm pretty srue he will not be our starting center

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

I wouldn't be surprised if he were starting around week 11 or 12. I'm definitely not expecting him to be the starter for Week 1 unless he has an unbelieveable offseason. Given that he's still very raw I'm not too eager to see him being thrown into the fire.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?

Jordan
Rhodes
Fargas
Griffith
Crockett

Bush might be able to snag a roster spot, although I don't know if we'll want 6 backs on the active roster. It also depends on if his leg will be 100% like he says he'll be.

Give us your WR depth chart:

Porter
Curry

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

The obvious preference would be 'when he's ready'... 3 of our first 5 games are going to be at at Denver, at Miami and at San Diego... Ideally, I don't think you want to send a rookie QB into those venues against those level of defenses... Most probable scenario is maybe week 7 when we have 3 of 4 games at home and the Titans away...

Best case scenario is McCown plays well enough up to that point that he earns a decent enough FA contract that brings us a comp pick, or that Walter plays well enough that he has some trade value...

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?

We'll find out soon enough whether the talk of Zach Crockett maybe thinking about retiring is more than just rumor... Unfortunately, either way I think he's in trouble with Justin Griffith also able to carry the ball as a halfback in addition to playing FB...

Rhodes
Jordan
Bush
Fargas
Griffith
O'Neil

If Bush proves to be healthy, Jordan may be let go as Kiff may want to nip his potential attitude problem in the bud and go with the blue collar attitude and HB/FB/special teams versatility of ReShard Lee instead... Echemandu may also be a surprise keep as this scheme seems to fit his running style...

Give us your WR depth chart:

Porter
BMW
Curry
Morant
Higgins
Francis
Gabriel

Just a gut feeling but I think this is the year Francis stays healthy... Gabe seems to be on Al's bad side and probably isn't long for the team IMO... Madsen's ability to swing to WR from TE may allow us to keep one more OLineman or TE and go with 6 WR's + 2 practice squad candidates...

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets:

I'd expect between 30-40 as a rookie....

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be?

10

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

--I like the week 11 or 12 idea. But in honesty, tht's me rooting for the line to gel, and Chocolate Thunder just shows too much to stay on the sideline. I don't have a clue as to when he comes in. Fine if he sits all year, like Carson Palmer, but it'd kill me to not see him in game action.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
Jordan
Rhodes
Fargas
Griffith
Orenthal--I think his special teams play pushes Crockett out the door.
Bush gets placed on IR

Give us your WR depth chart:
Porter
Curry

BMW
Morant

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets:
30 catches. I think we'll throw to the backs quite a bit, and Miller may block a lot initially.

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be?
Can't see more than 9.

When do you think Russell starts? When do you prefer he starts?

1st game 2008 on both counts

Which running backs including FBs do you see making the team?

Jordan, Rhodes, Bush, Griffith, Fargas. They'll stash O'Neal on the PS to back up Griffith. Dark horse to make the team is Lee, he'd be a very good backup to Griffith, he can catch and block. Fargas is on very thin ice as is LJ if Bush is healthy.

Give us your WR depth chart?

Porter, Curry, Morant, Gabriel, Higgins, Williams
I've got a good feeling about Morant and this offense, if he can handle the playbook portion of things, he's just as big and faster than BMW. Hope he makes the best of his chance.

How many lineman do we keep and who will they be?

Gallery, Sims, Slaughter, Henderson, Grove, Newberry, McQ, Boothe, Carlisle. That's 9. We better find a damm good long snapper if Treu is out the door.

How many catches Zach Miller gets?

40+ going to be a regular target

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

I think he starts at game 11. I think he should sit the whole year and absorb the playbook.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
Jordan, Rhodes, Bush, Fargas, Griffith. O'Neal gets the Practice Squad. Crockett is a post-June 1st salary cap casualty.

On Russell stating I'd say this: if the Raiders get off to another slow start and end up going 2-6 or something in the first half of the season I think we could easily see Russell after that, much the way Vince Young too the reins in Houston. If the team is functioning and making progress under McCown...if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Sooooooooooooooooo...look for Ja's Raiders to be in full swing by week 8-9.

Are you fellin' a "Ja's Corner similar to Cliff's or what 'ya got? We gotta come up with something clever. Now that ain't it but I'm just sayin'.

It should have something to do with his rocket arm...

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

This all depends on how the RB's perform along with the line in my eyes. If Kiffin establishes a dominant running game, the quicker JRuss hits the field. I actually think JRuss is starting after the bi-week unless the Raiders are on a winning note.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
Jordan, Rhodes, Bush, Fargas, Griffith. O'Neal gets the Practice Squad. Crockett is a post-June 1st salary cap casualty. I also would note, if Bush is fully healthy and Rhodes plays well, I think Lamont gets cut or traded to a team like Greenbay.

Give us your WR depth chart:

1. Jerry Porter
2. Ronald Curry
3. Johnnie Morant (He's Mike Williams with speed)
4. Mike Williams (Red Zone Target, 3rd and 6 guy)

I have a weird feeling that Simeon Rice becomes a Raider this year as well.

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

I'd like to see him carry the clip board as long as possible but if things start on a bad note, maybe look to him after the bye week. We've got a lot invested in him and I'd hate to see his confidence take a beating early. I think AWAL and McCown can be adequate in Kiff's offense especially if we can get our shit together on the OL.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?

LJ, Rhodes, Fargas, Bush, Griffith, O'Neal. I think Crockett becomes expendable.

Give us your WR depth chart:

Curry
Porter
BMW
Higgins
Gabriel
Morant

I wouldn't be surprised if we still try to move Porter at some point. I think BMW will resurrect his career in Oakland.

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets:

40. I see him utilized for his blocking abilties just as much as his pass catching abilites.

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be?

Gallery, Grove, Newberry, Carlisle, Hulsey, McNasty, Boothe, Henderson, Slaughter, Morris, possibly Green.

Name the Opening Day starting lineup:

S: Micheal Huff, Stuart Schweigart
K: Sebastian Janikowski
P: Shane Lechler

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?
I think he will start at somepoint this season. If he can prove in pre-season that he is the best man for the job then it could be right away. If I had to guess I would say around week 12. I would prefer he starts once we prove we can protect the QB and he has shown he is ready. I am quite happy to wait for 2008 in a Carson Palmer style if necessary.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
If Bush is healthy then this makes for another very interesting camp/pre-season competition. I think if he is ready to go then Jordan could be the odd man out as Fargas has some ST value. I really like Crockett, but it would be nice if O'Neal was good enough to allow him to leave/retire. I think this is probably Crockett's last year and O'Neal goes on PS, Jordans last shot and Bush goes on PUP/IR.
Rhodes
Jordan/Bush
Fargas
Lee
Crockett
Griffith

Give us your WR depth chart:
I am concerned about the lack of a genuine number 1 WR, but again I like the competition here. There could be a real battle for the last spot with Morant, Whitted and Francis.
Curry

Morant

Predict how many catches Zach Miller gets:

How many linemen do we keep, and who will they be?
There is some decent competition on the Oline particularly at center. If Newberry can stay healthy then will we keep either Treu or Morris and if we don't then who will be the long snapper? I am guessing we keep 10.
Gallery, Sims, Grove, Carlisle, Boothe, Henderson, McQuistan, Slaughter, Newberry, Morris

Name the Opening Day starting lineup:

If Treu and Crockett don't make the cut then it will leave Barry Sims & Jerry Porter as the last remaining members of a successful Raiders team.

I think this depends on how McCown is doing. If we are a solidly 8-8 team with a chance to win each week, I think McCown is the QB. If not, I fear they will bring Russell in. I would like to see Russell holding a clipboard for the full season.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
Jordan
Rhodes
Fargas
Griffith
Crockett

Neal - Practice Squad
Bush - IR/PUP

Give us your WR depth chart:
Porter
Curry
Gabe
BMW
Higgins
Morant

As much as the front office and Kiffin don't want it to be so, Gabe plays his way up the depth chart.... again. Will BMW be kept on the roster as a 4th receiver? He could be cut during the season.

Interesting that most people are predicting that Sims will unseat Gallery at LT. I personally felt that Sims was 'done' 2 years, regardless of position. If Gallery, in his 4th year (2nd at LT) can't fend off Sims during this camp, what does that say about Gallery? Monumental Bust are the only words that come to mind.

I'm doing my annual, "one more chance" for Gallery/Grove and the one thing this weekend's draft has shown us is that the Raiders still believe in these two. They passed on countless offensive lineman on Saturday & Sunday. It's pretty scary to think that much of our success (or failure) is STILL predicated upon on how these two perform. Let's hope Al Davis is right.

When do you think Russell starts? When would you prefer he starts?

McCown gets a 4 game audition, if the Raiders aren't at 500 after the 4th game, Russell starts. Otherwise its when the team eventualy does fall 2 games under 500. Hopefuly he rides the pine all year.

Which running backs, including FBs, do you see making the team?
Jordan, Rhodes, Fargas, Bush
Griffen, O'neil

Give us your WR depth chart:
Porter
Curry
Williams
Morant
Higgens
Gabs
