Maybe this will light a fire in Davis' ass to get a coach in here fast... but this might also be a bit of a cold shower for the RR jihadist.

Amazing the fall out from bringing Art Shell back... and yes, I blame Art Shell 100% for this and how he mishandled both the Porter and Moss fiascos.

There is speculation that Johnson is gauging whether the Oakland Raiders, who own the top pick, would draft him. If so, despite more than $26 million in guarantees, Johnson likely would return to college.

1. If the kid's hired an agent, he's fucked when it comes to that whole "return to college" thing. The idea of sitting out a year and re-entering the draft will certainly not help his wallet or his draft stock in the next go 'round. So... all the kid is doing right now is fooling himself. If we did draft him and he did hold out, it would end shortly after he started reading articles about the type of mansion Adrian Peterson built for his mom, or what kind of car Brady Quinn just got customized, or how JaMarcus Russell just picked up the veterans' $11,000 dinner tab and smiled as he tipped the waitress...

2. With Shell's demise largely at the hands of the players, I think it is probably reasonable to think that Moss isn't going anywhere. Al Davis was faced with a situation where seemingly every offensive player was unhappy, so he had to either let Shell go or be prepared to lose a LOT of talent. If Moss stays, CJ isn't going to be our pick anyway, as we need a lot of help in a lot of areas.

3. I thought Elway was a bitch for trying to choose who he'd play for and I thought Manning was a bitch for spurning San Diego... and if there is any validity to this story, I think Calvin Johnson is a bitch, too. As such, fuck him. We get on Porter because he pulls prima donna shit... but at least Porter was actually a part of the league before he started pulling this shit.

I don't blame him.

Terrible O-line
Awful QBing
Piss-poor gameplanning
Recent history of unhappy receivers
Coach .... ?

Stay in school, kid.

I just stumbled on this Nancy Gay article touching on the relationship between Shell and his players. I think she may be embellishing a little here... but here's the excerpt anyways...

Then came Tuesday, when Davis went to his No. 1 method of gauging a coach's worth.

The Raiders' czar began calling his players.

One by one, veteran Raiders refused to endorse Shell. Many of them spoke of a team-wide revolt that eventually took hold, a mental shutdown in defiance of the disorganized practices, emotionless team meetings and general feeling of hopelessness.

They denounced Shell's uneven coaching performance, citing the coach's season-long mishandling of temperamental wide receiver Jerry Porter as an obvious personal grudge. Players also spoke of a double standard in the way Shell and his staff seemed to coddle moody wide receiver Randy Moss yet punitively or arbitrarily targeted others for the bench.

Players also said they had no confidence in the offensive scheme or the ability of Shell and his hand-picked offensive staff to teach or to inspire.

And no one needed to remind Davis that while the defense finished third overall in the NFL, the Raiders ended up with the No. 1 overall draft pick.

What more did Davis need to hear?

So that Wednesday meeting with Shell, originally designed to assess the season and determine how the Raiders would proceed, ended up becoming a lengthy exit interview. The debate was over dollars, not making the offensive line better.

What's most astonishing is that Shell has yet to receive a settlement from Davis regarding that $2 million remaining on his contract. The former coach packed his belongings and left the Raiders' Alameda facility by Friday morning without a check in his hand.

Where do these fuckheads think they are going to go?

The Patriots at #2??

If you're a top player at your position and a lock top 5 pick

You're going to a shitty team

Theres just no way around it

a mental shutdown in defiance of the disorganized practices

I know the 1st time I started losing hope for the season was when Jerry McDonald kept writing about how confused and disjointed the offense looked at practice during training camp. Day after day it was the same report of the defense kicking the shit out of the offense. Shell put his faith in Walsh and Slater and these guys couldn't even get our guys to look good in practice.

You make a good point, Nips, sure.
However in the case of Johnson, he is a JUNIOR.
He doesn't HAVE to go to anybody right now.

If I'm Johnson, and I believe Oakland is going to select me at #1 overall, I have to think VERY hard about remaining in school.

Might be the the better option.

I actually hope he stays in school. I think that would be a kick in the nuts to Gruden who is probably coveting this kid right now. Plus it might make it just a little bit easier to unload a Moss or Porter. The FA WR crop is the worst ever. But the WR draft crop could be damn good if all the top juniors jump in.

This is a journalist going fishing. "There is speculation"?

Haven't read that anywhere else. I have read that Calvin has considered staying in school for some time.

I don't want CJ at #1, but I also don't think this report has any legs.

I heard he was with the suit wearing Rich Gannon meeting with Al Davis when he said it.. ;)

This reeks of the "Quinn Brady doesn't want to play for the Raiders" thing going around earlier, which turned out to be bogus message board chatter run amuk... Minny papers are also speculating there's actually merit to a Porter for Smoot trade...

As down on this team as I am, I could see players not wanting to come here, but a statement like this is so far removed from the kind of kid CJ is that it's laughable... The kid is humble almost to a fault and shies away from bringing attention to his self...

Good point, he'll go back to school then get drafted by an old team in the Bucs next year

CJ is pretty much fucked no matter what he does

The kid has about $20 Million reasons to comer to the NFL.

And then he might think about what happens to his future if he blows a knee out next year playing college ball. He'll declare.

Why trade for Smoot? We don't need him?
That make no sence ,,,,so I guess welcome to Oakland Mr. Smoot.....

Screw CJ, I would like him but if he doesn't want to play here LET Detroit take him......you think Oakland sucks.....We will be back in the playoffs in no time but they won't!!!!!!

Matt Millen takes another wideout with their first rounder, that would be friggin' hilarious. With the mess we have on our hands offensively, and the defense finally playing fast and smart, we need to address the run game. AP would look great in S&B, followed by OL, through the draft or FA. A replacement for Sapp will have to be considered pretty soon.

CJ can go fuck himself. The last thing this team needs is another unproven prima-Diva.

I have grown to hate WR's.

He's going pro, just announced.

I read on a couple other team sites that the Vikings and Falcons are hot after CJ and are looking to trade up with either the Raiders or Lions

Would this be something Al Davis might entertain?

Dannyboy Snyder is also said to have a major hard on for him... and Portis is said to be on the trade market... The 6th spot wouldn't be so bad provided we could bend Snyder over the way the Donx have on trades... Then again, the Skins may have traded away all their picks for all I know...
