So what does Shells out as HC mean to you?

to me its

1. Al sees the need for an offensive mind at the helm

2. Jerry Porter and Randy Moss may both have real shots at starting here again next year depending on who is brought in

3. Much as I like Shell I think he struggled a lot with the "new NFL" as a coach.

To your points ..........

1. That's always been Al's focus.

2. I agree. I won't be surprised to see them both back, although I would like to see Oakland move 'em both out (one way or another) and draft C. Johnson.

3. I agree.

1. Art is not a good communicator
2. Art does not know how to lead men
3. Art has a HUGE chip on his shoulder and is always wondering who trying to screw him whether it's Porter, Moss or somebody else in the front office.

As for Art Shell the man...he'll always be a great Raider and one of my favorite players.

It means one thing to me:

This franchise is at a major crossroads right now. No coach, 1st pick in the draft, and a ton of money to spend in free agency.

The decisions made this offseason are going to go a long way toward determining the direction this franchise goes in the short and long term. I really think I will know by August if I am going to have anything to root for with this team.

The coaching search is going to be a big thing for me. Only because it has been such a circle jerk thev last two times. We may promote from within, but it would go a long way in my mind if we sign a top candidate.

It basically means that we can start re-loading a year earlier than we would if Shell came back next season. With all due respects, he was a great Raider but a shitty coach with no game management, and player personnel skills. Pretty sad hire if you ask me. The fact that no one remotely considered him for another HC stint in the NFL is the tell all.

I say we end up grab a vet QB if Davis doesnt feel comfortable with Brooks. Who is hard to say yet.

There is a difference between being tough and being stubborn. Shell started out seeming to be tough and was shown to be stubborn. We already have the stubborn quotient filled via Al and don't need more in the people running this team.

I agree with Mass that this off season is like the one we had post Super Bowl and will determine our future for at least the next 5 years. We do it poorly and this will be one hard decade of football.....we do it right and we could really be sitting on something special.

Cough - Cough

Hitting the herb a little early today in memory of Art.
Now I can go back to loving him unconditionally as a player.

I'm not rejoicing, by any stretch of the imagination. Call me one of those blindly loyal fans.

Having said that, I recognize that it's probably best for the team. I'm still not finding any glee in his failure or in the fact that he didn't succeed. I was really pulling for him.

It's painful but it had to happen. I'm glad Al saw that.

I want a quick decision, not another drawn out laughingstock where everyone can point at us and say, "That's the worst job right there!" That hurts with free agents, draftees, everything.

I think that about sums up how I feel about this situation as well, great take...just when I thought she was starting to lose it! ;)

What? Me lose it? No way. I haven't had much enthusiasm for posting about the Raiders this season. Hell, this team has pretty much killed my interest in football at ALL (college included). Hopefully, the draft will awaken my brain (and typing fingers) again.

I lose it early this year because of the other place a bunch of us used to hang out. Then we blew so bad I lost a little interest. No we have something to talk about that Art is gone all the possible moves and the Draft coming up.....:D
