Should we trade Fabian Washington?

I'm not really in favor of such a move, but the idea has come up once or thrice. The extra picks, if used well for once (Go away, Al.), could really give Kiffin's team a quick boost. Another D-linemen, a WR, maybe a RB or safety.

Considering we don't have a 3 or a 5 this year, making a trade to recoup some picks would be a wise move.

The question is: Does his trade value outweigh his value as a nickleback?

Every team needs to have a 3rd corner who is starter quality. Despite his struggles, I think Washington is a heckuva player. My only beef with him is that he's too light in the seat to be a really strong tackler.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's simply a matter of fundamentals, same as the rest of the defense.


But let's just say we opt for a bigger, rougher nickle corner. Should we trade Fabs? What is he worth?


Cover guys are always at a premium. We managed a 2 and a 3 for P-Suck. Surely a guy who doesn't get burned as often or as badly could bring similar compensation, right?


If we can get a 2008 2nd & 3rd round pick, do we do that deal?

That's probably a dumb question. Who wouldn't take that?


Say nobody bites. What's the least you'd take for him?


Keep in mind that he still has a lot of value to us. Given any sort of pass rush, he's a very good cover guy. We'd be fools to just let him go for nothing.


For me, there'd have to be a 2nd round pick in the mix. A 2 and a 4/5 this year, or a 2 this year and a 2/3 next year. Low as I could go.

Itd be nice if we could get a 3rd for him.To be honest i dont think him or Routt are good starting CBs.
We do need a S.I dont see us going S in round one or two.Round 3 seems logical.Someone like DJ Wolfe would be a good pick.
 
I don't want to trade away young players for picks.

The verdict on guys like Routt and Washington isn't in yet, and unless I hear some Buchanon-type stories, I'd rather continue to develop him.
 
I agree. But if the market offers good value for him...just sayin'.
 
Do you really think a 3rd is fair valeu for Fabs? Maybe a two but on the other hand I agree with Mass...we need to keep our young guys. I still like Washington.
 
Thing is you could get a 3rd & then draft a Q. Moses.

Would also mean Raiders had blown another 1st rounder
 
I'm not opposed to doing it because I like big corners and like what I have seen from Routt as the weakside starter... but you don't do it unless you have 100% confidence you can pull a consistent third corner from the Carr/Bowie/Chris Johnson grouping... Otherwise you're just asking for trouble by giving Al an opening to feed his infamous cornerback Jonez come draft day whether it be with Mike Jenkins in the top 5, a Terrell Thomas in RD2 or by aquiring Pacman Jones...

Truth be known, some kind of swap involving Fabs and Pacman wouldn't surprise me in the least, especially with the way we've struggled in the kick return game...

I do too, which is why I'd have to have a high 2nd + other considerations to make the move.

Need DL more than we need corners, so...it's an option, I think.
 
A high 2nd and 3rd for Fabs? Hmmmm Carr has shown he can come in and play in a pinch, although I wouldn't want to rely on it. Takes so long to develop a good corner these days but would love to have two more picks first day. We can probably get 2nd day picks for both LJ and Stu too. DL and OL all draft with maybe a wideout in there too.

Count me out of the Pac Man sweepstakes.
 
I would've liked to seen some of John Bowie during the season. Looked good during the preseason, but so did Higgins, Williams, Walter, Culpepper, etc..

We have nobody after our top two, and he's not good enough to net a second rounder.

I personally wouldnt take a 3rd rounder for him. He's still learning, still young and plays on a crap defence. He has the ability to be a great one.

It took Nnamdii 3 years.
 
I think Stanford Routt is a very solid corner. Very solid and he should only get better.

As for Fabian Washington, I'd rather hang on to the guy myself. I agree that his tackling issues are more the result of lacking size rather than effort/technique, though I could be wrong of course.

I think at worst, he's a very solid 3rd CB and at best, he could be a 2nd CB....
 
id take a high 2nd if there is a player on the board that we can deal without... or if a top guy falls package him with a 2 to move up to the mid first round to get him...

A Chris Long at 3/4 and a Sedrick Ellis at 18 would make me ecstatic and I'd be good until round 4
 
This team already lacks talent at many postions, I don't really see the logic in trading away proven players for uncertain draft picks.

It would take a rediculous package (say two 2nd rounders OR a 1st and a 3rd rounder) to consider it - and that's not going to happen anyway, so it's really a moot point.

Hold on to Fabian Washington !!!

I agree with RIVL 100%.

This team lacks talent in so many areas, that it is ridiculous to think we should trade one of our few quality young players for a third or fourth rounder.

A second or a package to move up in round one, sure but you don't dump 24 year old first round corners with his potential...
 
As much as I am in favor of trading a db for a front 4 player... I don't see Kiffin falling in line with any move that unloads a player that is best suited for a cover-2 like Washington. Plus after watching Al drop a 1st and a 2nd on a CB after trading Buchanon, we mght be better off keeping things stupid simple for the old man and keeping the idea of replacing a db out of his head...
 
Someone brought up PacMan jones, but I am mildly suprised that Fabs hasn't been tried as a PR? Didn't he do some of that in college?
 
We tried him as a KR as a rook. He was terrible, so it was abandoned quickly.

He'll go down as one of the worst in recent years.

We wont fluke out on a trade like that again.
