So I've been doing this GM type of offseason activity for the last 15-20 years or so. Basically in a sense it's part Madden, part mock draft, but fully fleshed out.

This year the Raiders fell to me (and a couple of co-GMs), but I haven't paid enough attention and won't be able to scout, so I was thinking of having BR help out unofficially. I had @Crow play in the past, so he can tell you how silly this game is.

We go through the entire offseason - trades, FA, draft, all 7 rounds. I've tried to make it mimic real life (dead money, etc). All GMs are human, so you can't game the system with bizarre trades. Some GMs are stupid though, true to life.

It's only a one year league, so FA is kinda wonky since you can't backload contracts, nor trade future picks, but it's still fun rosterbation.

I'll probably chronicle things and seek feedback in this thread for those interested at all.

On the off chance someone wants to take part in this nonsense on their own let me know.

And for the hell of it, if anyone likes baseball, football, or basketball sim games, I got those. You do not need to own the game.

Can confirm. It's a silly game, but it can suck you in if you're into the haggling and roster building stuff.

Who plays the role of a players agent in free agency? Or is it like an auction and the highest bidder wins?

Is there a winner of this game ? How is that determined ? Or is it just a participation trophy exercise ?

Officially? We vote, which, is, less than ideal. In a way it's a participation trophy exercise since there's no real objective way to determine a winner, but, I guess that's no different than media talking heads deciding best FA and best draft like we do.

Most of us have been playing together for over a decade, so we kind of keep track of how we've done as time has gone on more than anything.

Showing your work at the end seemed to be nearly as big a part of "winning" as what you were actually able to accomplish. Demonstrating scheme fits, talking up your maneuvering and selling your trades and such wins/bargains, etc.

Whether or not people think you won or got rooked on trades affects voting, as I recall. So being a real bullshitter is advantageous. @Sleet would fit right in.

cuts even though there's dead money
Littleton
Nassib
Drake
Maybe Kwit but I'd like to see what the new regime thinks about his fit first

not a lot of room to save money with the cuts.

I'll just say, given my co-gms, Carr probably is not getting traded. The most we usually ever get offered is a 2, which isn't worth trying to find a QB in a one year league.

Sounds like you're competing against some savvy GMs.

My advice ? Sign Mariota. Take the two. I know it's a one year league, but a deuce for PB is probably the best offer you'll ever see for the 1sg all-star. :D

Well, the Browns have made an interesting offer for our favorite QB:

1.13
3.98
Takitaki
Greedy Williams
DPJ

And then you have to find a QB. And since it’s judged by all of the other GMs, this is a losing deal, unless you have a deal in place to trade for a Wilson or Rodgers or Watson, I wouldn’t do that at all. Regardless of what you think of Carr, the perception won’t sway in your favor at grading time.

That's a pretty nice offer for PB.

You have a good shot at having your choice of the first QB off the board at 1:13. Sign Mariota or Winston as a bridge. Or you could package the 1 and 3 as part of a deal to nab Watson, the Midget, or the Dwarf.

That's a no brainer trade in real life. Should be even in a one year fantasy GM scenario.

Of course, I'm biased and would trade PB for a lump of coal. You'd get an A+ rating from me for the addition by subtraction of PB factor alone. That, and being the GM that finally put an end to the PB era would get you my vote for GM of the decade.

Just pull the trigger and don't worry too much about winning as many 1 score games against like defenses as PB will in Cleveland. You win that deal. :D

Yeah I wouldn’t shed a tear PB if he got traded. I’ve seen his act about four years to long.

Early signs on Mariota have him going for about Carr's number, so that could be dicey. May make sense to beef up the rest of the team, and sell it that way (in this scenario).

Watson would be very polarizing. I briefly talked to him, he wanted a 1+ and is generally a tough haggler. ARZ's GM is notorious for backing out last minute. The Seattle GM though could be something.

I'm relying on you guys here, but supposedly the QB class isn't great. That would give me pause, though I could sell that. I'm a BPA guy though - forcing picks at a position of need is usually how bad teams stay bad. Given all the holes we have, maybe I could trade down a few times (something I love).
