SHELL OUT IN OAKLAND

Adam Schefter was right, after all.

A league source tells us that the Oakland Raiders are firing coach Art Shell. Today.

More to come.

Deep in depth coverage, I know... we'll see if Bones the Insider had some juice....

I hope this means a petrinofish is on the hook and Al is reeling him in.

Except that Al may have cast his line in the Pacific and reeled in a tedford fish instead... ;) Similar to a petrino fish but has the ability to void his current contract...

I'm down with that. Just no more clown fishes Al.

Who thinks Ryan will be promoted!

My bet is Ryan was promoted Tuesday. The rest of us, including Ryan, will probably find out sometime tomorrow....

Well Martindale supposedly turned down the DC job at Stanford, so that gives legs to thinking he'll be promoted here if Ryan gets a bump...

I don't know how I feel about Ryan as head coach... we never get to hear that mofo speak since our assistant coaches are gagged... and like Shell he'd need to be propped up with a top notch x's and o's offensive coordinator... He's got the enthusiasm you want, but it's hard to guage communication skills and intelligence level when the guys had the mute button pushed since he arrived....

Personally I'd rather leave Ryan be and bring in Mike Singletary as HC if we're going the defensive minded route, but I find it hard to believe Al wouldn't press for an offense guru as HC with the way the O crapped the bed this year...

Dismissed as HC but most likely moving upstairs, hopefully to an inocuous position away from player personnel decisions. I hope we fire the whole shitty staff of offensive coaches including Slater and Eatman. My money is on Tedford. We need some new blood here.

Yeah I like anything that has to do with Shell no longer being the HC...but please bring a new HC in asap

ESPN is saying Cowher is expected to leave Pittsburgh. Maaaan he would work wonders on this team.

I must be the only one that is one hundred percent opposed to "promoting" Rob Ryan. I'm of the "If it ain't broke, it don't need fixin'" opinion. They just got the defense settled in to the point that a DT and a RDE would pretty well make for a solid defense. Why send it into upheaval?

we arent promoting Ryan. Right now it looks like its Tedford or Petrino.

Please let this be true.

Tedford from what I'm hearing is in the cross hairs...

Like TG I'd like to leave Ryan the hell alone. He's getting the job done and looking the part.

I understand that it appears to be Petrino or Tedford. Didn't Petrino just sign himself an extension last year worth some major money? Someone refresh my memory.

Raiders | Shell to be fired?
Thu, 4 Jan 2007 12:00:56 -0800

KFFL has learned Oakland Raiders head coach Art Shell is meeting Thursday, Jan. 4, with team owner/general managing partner Al Davis to discuss Shell's future with the team. Nothing has been determined yet as to whether Shell will be fired.

Here you go TG... Nice to see you were paying attention the first 18 times
;)

Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino, who has entertained overtures over the past several years from LSU, Auburn, Notre Dame and the Oakland Raiders, has agreed to a 10-year, $25 million extension through 2015.

Petrino's salary will start at $1.6 million next year and escalate to $2.5 million by the end of the deal. The contract includes a $1 million buyout if Petrino leaves for another employer before the contract is up and $5 million in loyalty incentives spread out over the duration of the contract
