-The Team of the Decades opens the season in prime time for the third time in four seasons - hosting San Diego on ESPN this year. The Raiders played at New England in 2005 and at Tennessee in 2003.

-The Raiders this year face members of the NFC West - Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle and St. Louis - and have a cumulative 44-31 record versus those teams.

-The Raiders also face members of the AFC North - Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh and hold a cumulative 35-23 record against those teams.

-The Silver and Black face Seattle for the first time since the Seahawks relocated from the AFC West to the NFC West in 2002.

-Cleveland travels to Oakland to face the Raiders for the second straight year.

-The defending Super Bowl champion is on the Raiders' schedule for the second consecutive year. The Raiders face Pittsburgh this year and played New England last year.

-The Raiders play a participant from the previous season's Super Bowl for the fifth time in the past six years. The Raiders face Pittsburgh and Seattle this year; played both New England and Philadelphia last year; faced Carolina in 2004, New England in 2002, and the New York Giants in 2001.

-The Raiders will play in four Nationally televised prime time games during the 2006 season - at home vs. San Diego (Sept. 11, ESPN) and Kansas City (Dec. 23, NFL Network), and at Denver (Oct. 15, NBC), and at Seattle (Nov. 6, ESPN).

-The Raiders will play in back-to-back road games against AFC West rivals Kansas City and San Diego on November 19 and 26 respectively.

-The Silver and Black will play back-to-back home games twice (Weeks 7 and 8, Weeks 15 and 16), and back-to-back road games twice (Weeks 5 and 6, Weeks 11 and 12).

-The Raiders travel to East Rutherford, N.J., to face the New York Jets at Giants Stadium for the second year in a row. The Raiders will also end the regular season on New Year's Eve for the second year in a row.

-The Raiders, who open the season on Monday night versus San Diego and travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks on Monday, November 6, have a 36-21-1 record in Monday night contests.

Thanks for the schedule AP (Rep!!!)...It presents some interesting challenges for me traveling to Oakland. The fact the NFL might change certain "games of interest" to a Sunday night affair is one. The other is that the opener is a Monday Night game

I think so. The schedule at our homesite also has our Monday night game later in the season beginning at that time.

We may get more Sunday Night games due to the flex schedule beginning week ten....highlighted part....

Raiders release '06 schedule

PHIL BARBER

The schedule released today by the NFL seems to confirm what Raiders owner Al Davis keeps saying every chance he gets — that despite his team's recent stumbles, it remains one of the league's most popular and intriguing entities.

The Raiders will play in at least four prime-time games in 2006, quite an honor for a team that finished 4-12 the preceding year. A Monday-night opener at home against San Diego had already been announced. The full slate also includes a Sunday-night game at Denver on Oct. 15, a Monday-night match-up with Seattle on Nov. 6 and a Saturday-evening confrontation with Kansas City (on NFL Network) on Dec. 23.

If the Raiders exceed expectations on the field, they may get additional exposure, thanks to the flexible scheduling the league is introducing. Starting with Week 10, no Sunday-night games are scheduled; the NFL will move one game from afternoon to night each week, announcing the game 12 days before it is played (or six days for Week 17).

The Raiders' bye comes early this year, in Week 3, and is followed by what looks to be the easiest stretch of the schedule. The four games after the off week include Cleveland, San Francisco and Arizona. Then things get ugly. Beginning Week 8, the Raiders get back-to-back games against the reigning Super Bowl teams — Pittsburgh at home, Seattle on the road — then three consecutive against their AFC West rivals.

For once, at least, the players can be home for the holidays. After playing at Kansas City on Christmas Day 2004, and at Denver on Christmas Eve Night 2005, Oakland gets to host the Chiefs two days before Christmas this year.

Leading Online Bookmaker First to Open Betting on NFL Week 1 Games

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, April 6 2006 -- Only minutes after the NFL unveiled the 2006 regular season schedule this afternoon, the odds makers at PinnacleSports.com began calculating the betting lines for the first week of the NFL season. Although the Super Bowl was played only three months ago, the draft hasn't taken place yet and training camps aren't even close to opening, fans everywhere are anxiously awaiting the start of football season. With today's announcement of the 2006 regular season schedule, PinnacleSports.com has become the first sports book to open betting on all 16 games taking place during Week 1 of the NFL regular season in September.

In the Thursday night season opener on September 7, PinnacleSports.com currently has the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers listed as 6.5 point favorites versus the visiting Miami Dolphins. The opening Sunday night primetime game of the year will mark the first time in league history that brothers will start at quarterback against each other. In what's being deemed "The Manning Bowl," Peyton's Indianapolis Colts are 3 point favorites over little brother Eli's New York Giants. For the NFL's Week 1 Monday Night doubleheader, the Washington Redskins are listed as 6 point favorites over the visiting Minnesota Vikings and new head coach Brad Childress, while the San Diego Chargers, led by new starting quarterback Philip Rivers, are favored by 1.5 points over their AFC West rival Oakland Raiders.

The first Sunday of the NFL season features many other notable match-ups that will definitely be popular with the betting public. NFC South rivals meet in Carolina when the Panthers (-4) host Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons, while the three-time world champion New England Patriots are 7.5 point favorites to the Buffalo Bills in a key AFC East match-up at Gillette Stadium. Offensive powerhouses meet in Kansas City when Chad Johnson's Cincinnati Bengals (+2.5) visit the Chiefs and new head coach Herm Edwards. Meanwhile, the defending NFC champion Seattle open in Detroit where PinnacleSports.com has listed the Seahawks as 3.5 point favorites over the Lions. In his first regular season as a member of the Cowboys, Terrell Owens and his Dallas teammates find themselves as 3 point underdogs at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In addition, PinnacleSports.com has odds posted on all 32 NFL teams winning Super Bowl XLI and currently lists the now Edgerrin James-less Indianapolis Colts as the 6/1 favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. The New England Patriots are 10/1 to win their fourth championship in six years, while the Pittsburgh Steelers are 11/1 to repeat as world champs, along with reigning NFC champs Seattle. PinnacleSports.com lists a much-improved Miami Dolphins team at 12/1 followed by the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos at 13/1. Three NFC East teams could also vie for the Super Bowl title as TO's Dallas Cowboys (16/1), the Washington Redskins (16/1) and Philadelphia Eagles (19/1) should be solid playoff contenders. Surprisingly, the Arizona Cardinals currently have better odds to win their first Super Bowl, at 20/1 odds, than 2005 playoff teams Cincinnati (21/1), New York Giants (23/1), Chicago (24/1) and Jacksonville (24/1). The Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans have been installed with the worst odds to win Super Bowl XLI at 150/1.

Here is how our prime time games differ from other teams with similar records...

Either people in high places are grateful to Al Davis for helping broker the collective bargaining agreement between owners and players, or someone thinks the Oakland Raiders are on to something.
The Raiders, 13-35 over the past three years and having made little news in free agency other than signing New Orleans castoff Aaron Brooks, are featured in four prime-time games in 2006.

Besides the previously announced opener on Monday night in Oakland against San Diego, the Raiders will play at Denver on Sunday night, Oct. 15; visit Seattle on Monday night, Nov. 6; and host Kansas City on Saturday night, Dec. 23.

That's four high-profile games — not to mention being chosen for the preseason Hall of Fame opener against Philadelphia on Aug. 6.

The six other teams that had records of 4-12 or worse combined for six prime time games, and three of those went to Green Bay, with the networks apparently secure in the belief that Brett Favre will not retire.

The Houston Texans (2-14) and Tennessee Titans (4-12) have no games under the lights. New Orleans (3-13), the New York Jets (4-12) and San Francisco 49ers (4-12) have one each.

Oakland's cross-bay rival, the 49ers, had the same 2005 record, draft one spot before the Raiders at No. 6, still sell enough tickets to declare sellouts at Monster Park and have an identical 13-35 record since the start of the 2003 season.

But when the schedule came out, the Raiders were considered more viewer-friendly. The 49ers' lone night game is a Thursday night affair Dec. 14 against Seattle.

It was the second straight season the 49ers had one prime time game, playing Arizona in Mexico City last season.

Oakland, by contrast, also drew four prime time games in 2005, despite coming off a 5-11 season. The Raiders even got the NFL season opener on Thursday night against defending champion New England, as well as night games against Kansas City, the San Diego Chargers and the New York Giants.

Given the high-profile acquisition of wide receiver Randy Moss, and to a lesser degree, the signing of free agent running back LaMont Jordan and the perception that Oakland might be on the upswing after a relatively impressive stretch of play at the end of the 2004 season, those assignments didn't have the shock value of the 2006 schedule.

Oakland's biggest news this last off-season was bringing back coach Art Shell, who was fired by Davis following the 1994 season and was the club's second choice after being turned down by Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Chargers get an easier schedule than the Raiders!!

Well, first, they get to play the Raiders twice. That alone favors the Chargers. When you're in the cellar, everyone who plays you gets an easier schedule, and the teams in your division get you twice, so their strength of schedule suffers twice as much. Strength of schedule should really be based on non-divisional foes, because there's absolutely nothing that can be done about divisional foes.

Well it sure wasn't fun to play the Raiders twice in 2002!! ;) I understand what you're saying....but it seems to me, the division rival games.....all the rules go right out the window cause those are the toughest games to play and even the Raiders play their best then!! :)
