Just found this:

From footballsfuture:

"The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons will look to trade QB Matt Schaub. Schaub, a restricted free agent, is expected to receive a one-year tender of $2 million and compensation attachment of a first and third pick to prevent teams from signing him as a free agent.

Since Schaub will become an unrestricted free agent in 2008, the Falcons will shop the talented back up quarterback around the league this off-season. They could net a second or third rounder. The Vikings, Raiders, and Texans are all possible trade partners for Schaub."

Third for Schaub, provided he signs a new contract.

Sign Ahman Green.

Draft CJ.

Draft Zach Miller.

Sign Leonard Davis.

Everything else is gravy.

The more I read about Leonard Davis, the less I want us to sign him. I know we need lineman, but he sounds slow & fat. Rewarding players like that with a big money deal is usually a mistake.

To me it's telling that Arizona is willing to let him walk. If he was the cats meow they'd be breaking their ass to keep him, especially since their OL is one of the weak spots on their team. What's that tell 'ya?

One man's treasure is another man's garbage.

Actually, he's been very, very good as a guard when he's been asked to play the position. I think the problem is, he wants to get paid like a LT but play like a guard. If we could sign him to be our interior road-grader, I'd be all for it.. but not at LT money (which is obviously the rub).

My thought is he takes over at RT for Loserton Walker.

Or maybe it should be

Either way it sounds a better than last year, especially now that we have a supposedly sane coaching staff.

I would be almost inclined to trade down for someone's second and use the extra pick in a trade for Schaub. It's a much better deal than trying to turn David Carr's career around IMO.

Honestly, I don't see what all the fuss about Schaub is. He's a lifetime 50% passer with 6 TD's. I know he's big and all but I don't see giving up more than a third for the guy. Anyone is crazy giving up more than that for him IMO.

Not meant to stir the pot or anything, because lord knows JaMarcus has no NFL 'proven experience'

But what has Schaub done to warrant a top 50 pick in this draft?

Won some preseason games?

Filled in admirably in garbage time?

Completed six stunningly perfect touch down passes?

I dunno, but I've maybe watched Schaub twice, and I havent seen why he is the 'hot commodity'...

Carr has at least won some games and is a proven guy for the offense we might try to run...

I completely agree with that sentiment. That being so, I too hope we find a taker and trade down in exchange for a truckload of picks, especially an extra 1st / 2nd in next year's draft. And hopefully, not far enough down to have to pick up Quinn.. but far enough down that we can still get a top-tier player, even if it's a defender like that DT, Adams.

Despite everyone being pretty giddy about our defense, it isn't as though it *really* is a top-five squad right now. A lot of that had to do with our inept offense making it easy for the other team to not do a whole lot as the game wore on (or go a whole long way to score anyway). We're really short another big fat interior D-lineman, a stud OLB and a real strong safety if we're going to be honest with ourselves. Having some extra first-day picks would go a long way towards a remedy for that problem.

Trade down. Trade down. Preach on brother. It's the best thing this franchise could do.

I agree with this. This defense isn't "finished". We gotta do something to shore up the middle of that DL and get more help on the outside. Maybe they plan on using Kelly at end...dunno but frankly if our offense starts showing they can move the ball our defense will be getting a lot more pressure put on them throughout games than they saw last year. I had that feeling all last year. Al said it best...``our defense played well...NOT GREAT". The old man sees similar weakness in the defense and he isn't fooled.

I'm not sure what makes Carr a proven guy. His winning percentage and stats are pretty bad despite having a decent running game and receiving core. As far as experience in our system goes, I'd say Schaub has a leg up since Knapp was his OC on Atlanta.

It's more a matter of being completely unimpressed with Carr than it is that I think Schaub is a sure thing.

Carr for a 3rd-4th is more value than the unproven Shaub for a 2.

Carr has the mobility and familiarity to run the new offense, IMO.

I agree... I was watching some old SC clips, (which is where I came up with the BMW/CJ similarities BTW), and I was surprised at just how often Leinart was moved out of the pocket on naked boots etc... The SC version of the WCO featured alot more vertical type routes in which the ball came out quick from the QB's hand... Almost identical to what Carr ran at Fresno...

What makes anybody think Carr would be any more successful behind the Raiders pathetic OL than he was behind the Texans pathetic OL? Just sayin'...looks like a guy jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

I'm watching BQ on ESPN...I like him again. :p

Wait I just saw some more highlights of Peterson.

I like him now.

The thing that gets be about the Peterson highlights is that he seems to get those big runs when his line totally dominates the opposing defense and he doesn't get touched or when he does that cutesy spin move.. neither of which I think will fly in the NFL without suffering severe punishment.

I regard CJ, Russell, Quinn, Thomas, Petersen as possible options for the Raiders so why not trade down?

What we do (don't do) with Moss is the real linch pin IMO. Hope we move this guy in the worst way. Trade down, take CJ and another pick(s) in the process.

That is my thinking today - subject to change every nano-second between now and draft day.

The Falcons offered the highest tender possible to restricted free agent Matt Schaub, making it unlikely he'll sign an offer sheet with another team.

A team would have to give up a first and third round pick to sign Schaub through free agency. While that's unlikely, teams can deal directly with Atlanta if they want to land Schaub in a trade. We think he's still likely to get moved.

I wouldn't give anything more than a third or fourth for the guy. He hasn't done dick in the NFL. At least Carr has been battle tested.
