Ryan had enough time and enough players. The results are mediocre at best. The guy is only good for TV takes. People still believe all the Raiders are like that. Go figure. The insane amount of yards on the ground has more to do with a system failure than specific players or the DL only. There are many worse defences than ours with even less talent and don't give up literally hundreds of yards to all kinda RBs. Time for a change. There is some talent at LB'er and DB on this roster. Obviosly work needs to be done along the DL, and the "not wanting my son to fail" angle has merit IMO.

I do agree that the Defensive Line sucks ass, but to say that there is "no way" that Monte would join the Raiders is shortsighted.

He'd be giving up a ton of money and control to come here (several articles have been written on this in the last few weeks). Plus you really need a strong personality to put up with Al being in your kitchen on a daily basis. As much as I am in favor of moving to a Tampa 2 because we have so many pieces already in place... I don't see this place being a good fit for the older Kiffin (in terms of force of personality), nor do I see him making the concessions he would need to make to come here.

Looked like the team mailed it in from the get go. I'm ready for a change already. 4 years of mediocrity ( last season was an anomaly) Draft DL the first day, re-sign Kelly, Warren, address the WR, OL, S positions via FA.

Why is it that our receviers NEVER seem to be wide open like that? I mean almost never. Those Jag receivers were standing in the open with nobody within 5 yards in any direction.

Maybe it just seems that way but we always seem to be throwing into tight coverage and our opponents seem to get receivers wide open at will with our safeties and LB's running like hell to catch up.

It does seem like all our throws are always into tight coverage, or the recievers have to make some kinda circus catch near the ground or near the sidleine to get a clear play on the ball... meanwhile watching our defense, teams are throwin 25 yards downfield to a wide open WR...

I think a lot of that has to do with the timing of the passing game.

Other teams's WR's get separation because we don't get any pressure on the QB or clog his throwing lanes. If you look at the times we've run shotgun and the quick slant when the D was man off or zone, we have the same separation as other teams.

The other factor is the QB. When McCown is in there, he's not staring down his primary, and when he is, he's pretty aware of where the other receivers should be so he can get to the other guy in the progression. Then he throws that change-up and the defender closes the gap while the ball is in flight. Culpepper and Russell stare down their #1 and lead the defense to the ball.

We know Culpepper won't change. This is something most rookie QB's have to correct, so I look forward to Russell getting out of that habit. Our guys are good enough at WR, not all-stars, but they're good enough at the NFL level. They're not good enough for the guys we're running out at QB though.

Know how the camera kinda zooms in panning left to right with about only 15 yards visible on the TV during a play

Funny... every time a RB bust one past our LB's.. the screen keeps scrolling to the right for another 20 yards before theres even a sight of another Raider defender

Every other team I watch... I swear to God... theres a pitch outside and I see 3-4 guys entering my TV screen from the right putting hats on the ball

I think if Monte Kiffin did come to Oakland, it would be with the proviso that Monte (much like Lane) would have plenty of lattitude - meaning significant input re: scheme & personnel.

Could be wrong, but I do think that Rob Ryan is gone next year. I think Kiffin will want "his guy" and I don't think that Monte is out of the question. JMO.

We don't have the safeties to play Monte's defense. They don't tackle well.. or at all. Come to think of it we don't have the safeties to play ANY defense.

Actually our current crop of quicker defensive players would be better suited to the Tampa 2, IMO. We can keep the four man front that Al espouses and utilize the speed of our backers and db's. I like the swarming, aggressive defenses that Kiff Sr. has installed over the years. Only obstacle is that the Bucs have always been a solid tackling unit, something we just can't seem to get right.

Key to the Tampa 2 is getting pressure without blitzing. And the active LB's that we already have.

But without a Simeon or a Freeney, we can't run that D.
