A local paper down on the bayou is reporting that the Redskins are toying with the idea of trading up to #1 to land JaMarcus Russell. The rumor goes that they'd trade QB Jason Cambell to another team or to the Raiders as part of a package to land the top pick and Russell.

This makes the list of teams who could be trade partners with the Raiders for the top pick up to as many as 4, all ALLEGEDLY wanting Russell.

Cleveland, Washington, Detroit and possibly Miami.

I see it like this, with the long list of needs we have on offense, the more bidders, the merrier! That just makes the price climb alittle higher.

I'd take Cambell and the Redskins 6th and 7th round picks as well as their 1st or second in 2008, we do pretty good with late round picks and Cambell is a good QB who would work well in the Kiffen system.

I don't know about trading down to 6. I really want one of those top 3, and I'm afraid the Raiders would take Ginn 6th.

Bite your tongue Jack:p I couldn't think of a worse scenario. Why do we have to have everyone elses recycled QB's. For once can we just pull the trigger on our own guy?

I read elsewhere that it's Cambell, their first this year and their first next season for Ja Russ. I'd have to rethink that just as long as Ted Ginn isn't in the picture. Even Snyder isn't that dumb is he?

That might not even be enough.

But if it is, and the Raiders move down to #6, that'd be an interesting spot. At that point, based on value and such, my #1 target would be Gaines Adams. BUt I could see Quinn or AD being there as well.

At #6, I'd be tickled with Quinn, Peterson, Gaines Adams or Alan Branch. I'd even reach in Marshawn Lynch at #6 or trade down again, pick up another 2nd or 1st and then draft Lynch. This draft deep by any account at the positions we really need to look at, Trade down, gain some picks on day one and fill some needs.

Jason Cambell is HARDLY A RE-TREAD, kid is young and talented. Competition boys, it is what makes people excell!!

I think Campbell has every bit as much going for him as Russell, so that wouldn't bother me.

But the Ginn thing is like a loose tooth for me.

I could totally see it going down:

1. WAS - Russell
2. DET - Thomas
3. CLE - Peterson
4. TB - Johnson
5. ARI - Branch

Yeah, that would leave Okoye, Adams and ... yeah, Ginn.

I'd love to take LaRon Landry there, actually, but Raider Nation would go into critical mass if we took safeties at 7 and 6 in back to back years.

Don't rule out Quinn at #6, either. Not that he's my pick by a long shot, but if we get him between 6-10, I could live with that... but then we'd have three young bucks at QB? Meh.. I dunno. I really don't like the area between #6-10 that much. You get beyond #10 and I REALLY start liking Lynch, despite signing Rhodes and hanging onto Jordan.

Yeah it would. But Landry and Huff would be the best combo in the NFL in two years. Add Fabs and Aso and that would be one of the best secondary's since the Soul Patrol! Too bad we need lots of O.

That wouldn't break my heart at all. That would be one sick secondary. All #1 picks, a dream team of db's but you know Al is going to want an offensive skill position guy here. A lot of options here. Not sure if I'd go with Quinn if we bring Campbell on board.

I also don't think we can count on having Scrabble beyond this year.

In two years it might be:

CB Huff
CB Washington
FS Schweigert
SS Landry

Or Routt at CB and Huff at FS with Schweig as a nickel back.

With the way teams are throwing around FA money, Aso would be nuts to re-up right now...not that anything is in the works. I agree with Jack...I doubt we'll be able to keep this guy. Dam shame too.

Well, first off, I want Russell. But I wouldn't really mind this.

If this were to happen, though, FUCK Ginn, and fuck Landry. The secondary is fine.

If we went down to 6, I'd be for taking Adams or Branch. One of those guys could solidify this defense as a truly great one, a championship-level one, one of the best in team history.

Me, I'm fine with the linebackers and the secondary.

But the front four could use a couple more people. 'Cause Brayton sucks and Sapp is old. Plain and simple as that, IMO.

Still, though... I'm not down.

If Snyder has that much of a hard-on for him maybe we could wiggle another pick in this draft out of them.

You have to think that organization is on crack, though, if this goes down.

Ramsey? Nah. Give us Campbell. Campbell? Nah. We like this Russell kid.

Uh, ok.

Ramsey just signed with the Broncos. Meh.

IFFFFF it's true that teams are jockeying to pick Russell, perhaps it means that many people view him as a rare talent.

Johnson or Russell? Russell or Johnson?

I think we should go down no further than 2 or 3 at most. I want to swing for the fences with this pick. (shrug)

Or we could just take the rare talent fuckin QB we need at the one spot.

;)

Why can't we be like the Titans, Chargers, Broncos, Niners and Cards and just take the QB?

However, a trade down (with some additional trading) could give us a top 10 pick with another late 1st rounder.

What if the Raiders ended up with Jason Campbell to compete with Andrew Walter and are able to draft either Landry, Adams or Branch with one pick and say Levi Brown with the next 1st rounder?

For us to trade down, I want a 2nd this year, plus a 1st next year on top of Washingtons 6th overall and Campbell. Maybe instead of Campbell they can trade us Shawn Taylor and we can hope Quinn drops to 6.

As much as I lead the QB draft jihad, I will go on record and say that I could handle a trade with Washington for a Campbell, a future first and a combination of a couple picks this year. (EDIT: I just looked and realized they dont have ANY other picks until round 5...GAY)

Remember that the trade would essentially mean Campbell is grading out as a top 15 pick according to the value chart, and we couldnt essentially 'stock pile' picks with Washington, since they don't have any.

*Campbell would really be a J-Russ lite, similiar height and mobility (6-5 230ish) and a good arm and leadership skills*

Hypothetically speaking if a trade down were to occur, I would like to stay in the top five, but I don't see us trading with Tampa (Obviously) and I doubt Detroit moves up (Rumors of a move down) and Washington has no ammunition to trade up.

Leaving Arizona and Cleveland. If I recall, Arizona has traded up in a draft about as much as we've traded down, meaning never.

Cleveland's infatuation with Russell will be the ticket, but the rumors of their hard on for local boy Quinn is essentially killing that push.

My dream trade down would be to drop to the 3 spot, have Cleveland and Detroit take CJ and Thomas, leaving us Russell and an extra second and third rounder...

Boneriffic.

CJ could be the target on a trade down too, but I don't like WR's at #1 overall, especially with top tier QB's grading out as top five picks...
