I have been thinking about this for the past few weeks, since we started talking to Darius. Here is what I see for our Top ten guys and let me tell you. We need some offensive weapons.
I know #1 and #2 should be about the same for everyone!

#1 Derrick Burgess - One of the top 3 DE's in the league
#2 Nnamdi Asomugha - One of the top ten CB's in the league
#3 Warren Sapp - Older and Still laying out there, Should have been in the pro-bowl
#4 Shane Lechler - Crushes it and I bet with some better coverage will be tops again
#5 Kirk Morrison - Fast and Smart tackling machine, keeps improving
#6 Jerry Porter - Has everything to be a top WR, now needs to prove it
#7 Thomas Howard - Fast and a quick learner should be even better this year
#8 Sebastian Janikowski - Solid but needs a big year in 07
#9 Ronald Curry - Proved me wrong, Solid pass catcher still getting better
#10 Fabian Washington - Really benefited from Aso on the other side and the entire solid total D last year but up & coming CB

01-Derrick Burgess
02-Nnamdi Asomugha
03-Shane Lechler
04-Fabian Washington
05-Kirk Morrison
06-Ronald Curry
07-Jerry Porter
08-Thomas Howard
09-Michael Huff
10-Warren Sapp

1) Kirk Morrison- I think this guy is the heart of our defense and would not play the same without him.

2) Nnamdi Asomugha - Being that we play a lot of man and we don't generate much of a pass rush, the guy showed some skill.

3) Derrick Burgess - Guy is a hell of a pass rusher, would like for him to shed his blocks better, but without this guy we'd be in big trouble.

4) Shane Lechler - Guy helps our Defense out like no other. Our O has been none existent and without him we might have went 0-16. Field position is huge with this guy.

5) Warren Sapp - This guy works hard and demands 100% out of his squad. Can still get a good push up the middle, run defense has never been his strength, but does a good enough job.

6) Fabian Washington - He will only continue to get better. Better then average bump coverage and will become a play-maker.

7) Thomas Howard - Give this kid one more year to become acclimated with the NFL and he becomes our " Ray Lewis." Too many good tangibles and more athletic skill than Morrison. Kirk will bring us consistency, this kid will bring us "huge" plays and some heart aches.

8) Ronald Curry - If he can stay healthy he becomes our Isaac Bruce and takes the back seat to Porter "stats" wise. But this kid will bring more consistency and shows a great work ethic that I'm not sure Porter will?

9) Jerry Porter - In my opinion and I've bashed on Porter like no other, the guy could be our Anquan Bolden or T.O. He has soft hands, speed and strength. There is no reason this guy can't put up 1400 yard, 12 td seasons if this offense gets on track.

10) Terdell Sands - Terds could solidify himself as a "legit" top DT in the NFL. He has the wing span, the height and lower body to be very good. If the motivation and training is there, this guy could be pro-bowl material.

Number 10 spot honorable mention:

Seabass
-Needs to work on consistency and his kick-offs, but is a weapon.
Lamont Jordan- Two years a go the guy love him or hate him put up numbers and moved the chains.
Michael Huff - Did nothing spectacular, but he didn't screw up either.

1) Burgess
2) Morrison
3) Sapp
4) Nnamdi
5) Lechler
6) Howard
7) Sands
8) Fabs
9) Huff
10) Kelly

The offense is actually going to have to do something before I acknowledge any of those mofos...

1.) Burgess
2.) Asomugha
3.) Morrison
4.) Howard
5.) Washington
6.) Sands
7.) Sapp
8.) Huff
9.) Lechler
10.) Curry

I did not consider rookies and/or FA signings since they have yet to play a down in Oakland. Thomas Howard could very well top the list by year 3......

1. Shane Lechler - best in the league
2. Derrick Burgess - elite
3. Nnamdi Asomugha - elite
4. Kirk Morrison - almost elite
5. Warren Sapp - wily vet-type elite
6. Ronald Curry - hands of solid gold, route running and body control to match
7. Fabian Washington - speed and smarts, needs a little better technique
8. Chris Carr - nasty return guy who plays solid CB when we need him
9. Thomas Howard - Dude racked up a ton of tackles. Why? Because he's so fucking fast he's always right there on the ball.
10. Robert Thomas - Monster against the run, should have started every game for us last year.

Hmmmm....

Just one offensive player up there. Wonder why?

1. Derrick Burgess
2. Nnamdi Asomugha
3. Shane Lechler
4. JaMarcus Russell
5. Kirk Morrison
6. Warren Sapp
7. Fabian Washington
8. Ronald Curry
9. Thomas Howard
10. Zach Miller

2 rooks that havent seen the field :)

The All Raider Team...

1. Kirk Morrison -- This guy has shown more balls the last two seasons than anybody on the team IMO. Dude plays hard and he's damn good.
2. Derrick Burgess -- This man stepped up.
3. Warren Sapp -- Clearly the team leader and a guy who didn't quit as bad as it was.
4. Nnamdi Asomugha -- Dude had a great year. He's a player. Hopefully he'll follow up '06 with another great year.
4. Thomas Howard -- Another player with a non stop motor. Guy is all over the place. He's gonna do nothing but get better.
5. Fabs Washington -- I love this guys speed and he's improved by leaps and bounds.
6. Hannibal Lechler -- Well he's very good.
7. Michael Huff -- Wait until he gets to FS. He's gonna be a playa.
8. Terd Sands --- Another guy who seems to have some heart.
9. Ronald Curry --- This guy can play. I just hope he doesn't get hurt again before we get good.
10. Jerry Porter -- Attitude aside he is one of the top 10 players on this team.

1. Derrick Burgess -- Only Pro Bowler on the team the past two years
2. Nnamdi Asomugha -- lockdown corners are a rare breed
3. Warren Sapp -- Plays with passion and experience
4. Kirk Morrison -- Always around the football
5. Fabian Washington
6. Terdell Sands
7. Ronald Curry -- Great athlete, hard worker, great attitude. What more could you ask?
8. Justin Griffith
9. Shane Lechler
10. Thomas Howard

Derrick Burgess -- Best DE we've had since Swilling came over for 2 seasons in the mid 90s

Nnamdi Asomugha -- Still coming into his own and about to make some serious cash

Kirk Morrison -- Best MLB we've had in over 20 years

Shane Lechler -- Hey, you said best 10 players and this guy is the best at his position in the entire league

Thomas Howard -- Great rookie season. Hopefully he keeps improving

Warren Sapp -- Had a renaissance year last year, but I'm not expecting that to be the norm

Fabian Washington -- 3rd season just might be the break-out year for him

Ronald Curry -- Best offensive player on the team... even if he does have pig ligaments for achilles'

Michael Huff -- We've yet to see the best from this guy but he's very fluid in the defensive backfield

Tommy Kelly -- Adds a lot of versatility to the defense

Amazingly, that's my wife's exact evaluation of me.

You don't think the offseason conditioning he's been doing - as evidenced by his dramatic weight loss - can give him another 2 years of experience-assisted high-level play?

I think dropping that much weight could be as much a hinderance to Sapp as a help. Ideally, he'd be around 305--310. Dramatic weight loss isn't always a good thing. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see that he's dedicated to staying in shape, I just wonder if he cut too much weight.

Also, I believe he has an option to void the remainder of his contract after this season but I'm not entirely sure so it's no guarantee that he'll even be in Oakland for 2 more years.

I'm hoping he isn't undersized now. If he's undersized, he'll get worn down by the bulk he's up against, negating the benefits of not carrying around the extra bulk.

Generally I think he'll be lightning quick, but I hope he's got enough functional strength. Hell, he knows what he's up against, so I would expect he's settled on a good size. If so, it should definitely add a couple years to his career. Staying at last year's weight he might have had this season and next of good production. At his current weight he could be looking to complete his contract with us, or renegotiate to get a little more of it accelerated before next season.

I didn't say it would be 2 years with the Raiders. :p

As far as his weight loss, I like the work ethic implications more than I like the actual weight loss. You have to admit, though, he was looking pretty fat and sloppy there for a while.

I'm sure by the time the season starts he'll be at the "right" weight.

1. Sapp - Leader on the most important unit and a beast on the field - Combined=MV
2. Burgess - Nuff Said
3. Kirk Morrison - New Leader who will replace Sapp Once Gone
4. Nnamdi - I need one more year to move him up - but if he can shut down half the field - then he goes to #2
5 Shane Lechler - Without him we might have gone 0-16
6. Fabian Washington - If he wasn't good, then they'd get to ignore Scrabble all together
7. Cooper Carlisle - I'd have gone with Newberry if he's knees weren't such a concern. Having a vet in place who knows the system is huge for our O line.
8 Dawnavon Daireuese - Will improve every db package on the field (especially the 5/6 packages) and force QB's to make throws they don't want to and make receivers try and catch them. Also gets ranked higher for his leadership skills and workout regimine.
9. Curry - His heart and ethic put him above Porter
10. Michael huff - Poised for a breakout year.

I'm sure by the time the season starts he'll be at the "right" weight.

I think so... my guess is he totally dumped his carbs to drop the weight... Once he starts the carb intake back up, he'll put some of that weight back on... Hopefully he'll play right around the 300-305 lb mark Natty alluded to and not gain all of it back...

I expect Sapp Jenny Craiging it has a lot to do with trying to cash in on one more big payday in '08...

Sapp has never had much issues with his quickness even at a higher playing weight. He's still probably one of the quickest DL at his playing weight. I do admire his commitment this offseason although as HB alluded to, he'll balloon up a bit after camp starts.

1) Warren Sapp- His advanced age is bad, but his overall impact is immeasurable!
2)Derrick Burrgess- The sack master speaks for himself.
3)SCRABBLE-I look for this cat to be TOP O D LIST by next year!
4)Kirk Morrison- Best young defensive stud we have, probably the best MLB in the AFC West!
5)Ronald Curry- Despite two achilles tears, he is still getting better? SICK!!
6)Shane Lechler- Best punter in football!
7)Howard Thomas- It is nice to have 2 of the best young LB's in the AFC.
8)Fabian Washington- BOY oh BOY, what a Cb tandem we have!
9)Chris Carr- He can play solid "D" and return like a mad man.
10)Mike Huff- If last season is any indication, he WILL breakout and tear things up!
