Pro coaches boost Trojan cause
Jul 29 2006
Vancouver Trojans
2005 record: 6-4
Player to watch:
WR Lamaris Fisher
The Vancouver Trojans are hoping that big names can lead them to big wins this season.
The Trojans boast a star-studded coaching staff, led by first-time head coach and former B.C. Lions star running back Cory Philpot. Other former CFL pros on the staff include former Lions defensive back Robert Holland (defensive coordinator); ex-Lion and Saskatchewan Roughrider Daved Benefield (linebackers coach); former Edmonton Eskimos and Cincinnati Bengals tailback Leroy Moss (running backs); former Lion and Winnipeg Blue Bomber Tom Europe (safeties); and ex-Lion and Seattle Seahawk Larry Thompson (receivers).
The Trojans roster has plenty of pro connections as well, as three of Leroy Moss’s sons are on the team: quarterback Curtis, fullback Ryan and receiver Prentice. Philpot calls the trio “tremendous athletes,” which natural, given that they’re cousins of hyper-athletic Oakland Raiders wideout Randy Moss.
Offence should be the Trojans’ strength. They’ve got eight top-flight receivers, led by all-star Lamaris Fisher, and they return four-fifths of the O-line, including all-star Adam Boyd.
The Trojans defence is smallish, but quick.
