I don't think Brayton has the size/strength to play End in the 3/4 defense (nor the speed to play End in the 4/3). I guess that would explain all the position changing with Brayton.

Brayton's position change was due to injuries in the LB corps. In our one season of playing the 3-4, Brayton started at DE and played very well there. I see no reason to think he couldn't do it again.

I don't think it was based on injuries, didn't Rob Ryan immediately move him to LB'er when RR got the DEFCO job in Oakland? That's my recollection anyway. I'd take Brayton as a reserve DE, but that's about it. Can't fault the man's effort to be sure, I just don't see him giving us anymore than what we saw last night and it's all downhill from there. Brayton was listed at 6'6 285 before we told him to stick his fingers down his throat and Jenny Craig'd him into a LB after Sam got hurt... My guess he's about 270 right now... I would kind of feel bad asking him to get back up to 285, but oh well... if Oprah can yoyo back and forth from fatass to waif, so can Tyler dammit!...

Bones has balls.

That he does... now he hasn't actually seen them in 20 years, but.....

Good to see ya, Natty. How's it feel to be a civilian?

Natty just does not seem like Natty without the Jeremy avatar...

This place has gone downhill quickly. Welcome TNS, RNAT, JSL et al.

Nope. He wasn't moved to OLB until Sammy and Travian got hurt. He was our starting LDE prior to that and had 2 1/2 sacks before getting moved.

3-4 DE and 4-3 DE aren't the same thing. Bulk him back up to the 290 range and he'd likely resume his solid play if we were to make the move to the 3-4.

No way dude... my moderatin' days are about over. It's about time I became someone's problem rather than the camp counselor.

I think Natty's about ready to hand the torch over to Fang:p

* After watching Anquan Boldin work the middle, I'm even more convinced that we need to get Andrew Walter the big bodied tough WR than can work the hashes and be counted on to catch the ball...

Since Joe Jurivicious isn't available, would it be entirely gay if I started a Drew Bennett jihad?.... Sneaky fast and tough as nails... Yes it's probably likely we'l l choose to add a Calvin Johnson/Tedd Ginn stretch the field WR , but I'd as soon save the pick and add another between the hash guy to Curry, Morant and possibly Madsen... I gotta say that Steppers plan of adding Joey Galloway when everyone had all but written him off looks good in retrospect...

I know some people don't like him, but if Detroit releases Mike Williams as speculated, I'd be all over that... Yeah he's not the fastest guy, but we don't need a guy that'll get five yards open, we need a guy that can use his body to and catch the damn ball... BMW showed excellent hands at SC and I'd give him the shot to turn his career around and give us a red zone option... If he can get his crap together, he could be a Keyshawn type WR....

*Entering this year with Moss, Porter, Gabes and Curry, did anyone ever anticipate having to look at the FA and draft eligible WR's?... :(

* I was watching an AW draft highlight film and couldn't help but notice how good he looks when he lets the ball fly right after completing his pass drop... I know the narrator is over the top with compliments, but man it would be nice to get the guy in a rhythm offense...

*Any chance at all that we finally put the shotgun formation into our vocabulary?....

*Why do I get the feeling that an high motor effort guy like Tyler Brayton would be made to look very good with the Bears?... They didn't have their best game, but I really like the way Ron Rivera frees up different guys along his front 7 to make plays...

*If you guys really miss Fang, I can have Stepper put on a dress and launch into an anti-Semitic tirade with a few I heart Jon Gruden lines thrown in as well.... As one who received a few Bizarro PM's from the guy over the years, I can only imagine that's nothing in comparison to what Stepper got seeing as how infatuated Fang was with the guy....

*After having to hear so much about the TO's and Jerry Porters, it was really nice to run into THIS VIDEO and THIS ONE when on youtube....

"Well, Tommy Kelly had 5 tackles" but if we do, we're just bullshitting ourselves. Tommy Kelly did not stand out in any way in that game. Nobody did.
This is why I can't figure out why some people scream for Sands to start, Not one player every steps it up to the next level. Not Kelly or Sands...We need some playmakers...
Our Wide Receivers

Randy Moss
- Moss pisses me off most of the time when he is losing. So we either have to win or trade him. I don't see us winning anytime soon,,

Jerry Porter
- Trade him I am tired of the drama,,, he is a malcontent and needs to go and go now. IF NOT NOW WHEN?

Alvis Whitted
- BUM Curry should be starting and Morant should be getting reps as the 3 since Whitted won't be here next year!

Ron Curry
- I never like Curry and then he made me eat my words last year. I want him to be starting since I think he is the second best WR we have and He wil be a starter next year......

"Just because I wish Al Davis would die and I criticize the Raiders constantly, that doesn't mean I'm not a fan."
me too! I love Al but it is time for him to hand the reigns over, or Fucking die one or the other works for me.....I don't critize as much as some others.....but I haven't had a lot of good to say this season

And I mean that sincerely, from the bottom of my silver and black heart.
that is just a great line you should keep that as your signiture.

You know who I really like? Marques Tuiasosopo
NOT a fan Tui just isn't steady, he made too many bad throws and seems to have happy feet back there.....time to move on!
There's just something that you can't help but respect about a guy like that.
I do respect him though, he has been a team and classy guy....good bye tui

Why O Why
Because he is a big large guy that is ok in the middle but run something out side and he become a spectator. I like him but he is no starter and for that matter niether is kelly or Sapp anymore......

LaMont Jordan
Jordon is hard on him self and he has to be sick of the losing. Now I have to criticize him a little, two things bothered me, but I quickly re-thought them and here is the result. The run out of bounce kinda bothered me...but I took a step back. It was early, and I can't blame him for taking the shot arly in the game. When he has to he will and has run hard and shows the passion. Like he did later in the game after the fumble.
The other thing may or may not be his or just game plan. The running to the outside kills me.....I hate the sweeps not sure whom issue it is but it clearly isn't working.

Just like with Whitted
PLEASE TELL ME WHY Art is giving this guy a chance over Curry. Also Morant should be getting more time not this bum....this isn't anything that any of you don't know already!

Now on to HB recent post.

I know some people don't like Brayton since he doesn't get sacks but I totally agree with HB here (I Know!) Brayton has more motor then anyone on this team and I hope maybe we get the same type of guys for this line. Then you would see Brayton crush it!
THE NIGHT STALKER LIVES!!!! (tell me Brayton doesn't look like the bad guy from the bad Stallone "Cobra" Movie)View attachment 19

I've got more... I just ran out of time...

Robert Gallery
I am not prepared to give up on the guy and throw him under the bus, given that he's only played 4 games at the LT spot... but I swear to God, if I see that son of a bitch get knocked on his ass by a linebacker ONE more time, I'm going to scream. Seems like it happens at least once a game and if he's really entertaining notions of greatness, that's the first damned thing that needs to change.

Matt Leinart[/u
I am already sick to death of the announcer and analysts smugly talking about how the Raiders screwed up by not taking this kid. Look, though I like Walter, I'm not completely sold that he's going to be able to be the guy, so I'm not just burying my homer head in the sand and screaming "I'm not listening" here. But the question boils down to this: Would Matt Leinart fare any better than Walter if he were surrounded by Oakland Raider offensive personnel and running Tom Walsh's system. I think the answer is a resounding "NO!"

I'm not one who gets mad at anybody who says something negative about our team - as I said this off-season, when you lose as many ball games as we have, you have to show something before you have any right to expect anybody to give you the benefit of the doubt - and I don't label most sports personalities as "Raider haters" or "Mediots" (with the exceptions of Glenn Dickey, Tim Kawakami, and Mark Schlereth)... but give it a damned rest on this Leinart business already. If anything, this season shows that we ought to have worked the phones to move up for Brick.

Thomas Howard
Over the first couple of games, this kid stood out to me because of the unGodly speed he's got and because he hits people as if they'd just slapped his mama. I didn't see it in the Denver game and, though the more probable explanation is that it was just a bad game, I do worry that the losing is sapping away some intensity.

jatfly - The thing that has me screaming for Sands to start is that we're more stout against the run when he's in. Everybody knows that I was the guy all off-season saying, "I think we need to leave Kelly at DE because I don't think he makes plays as a DT" so I'm naturally going to seize onto Sands and says "What the fuck?" To me, Sands is clearly outplaying Kelly at that spot but Kelly continues to start. And don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Kelly... I think he's a pretty good defensive end.

TNS - Don't you dare try to steal the "Kelly should remain at DE" mantra. I've been on that since day 1. The perfect DE compliment to the smallish Derrick Burgess. Kelly is more stout against the run at DE than DT and if you recall, he pushed the pocket countless times last year at End and allowed Burgess to cleanup on the sack. Moving him to DT was stupid IMHO, but with our lack of depth at DT, he's staying put in 2006.

Agree completely about Sands. I was hoping that we would go with Sands & possibly Rashad Moore at DT because I wanted size up front and I wanted Sapp to be a "pass rushing DT" only. Of course Moore was a stiff, but I stand by the philosophy damn it !!!

TheNextStep

Please do not think I am coming down on Sands I only thing he and Kelly both are average at best. I see him making plays once in a while, I also see Kelly make plays once in a while.......the only problem with that is "once in a while" Look at the stats, Kelly has played ok and Sands for his reps has played wrll. I do think we use one of the first two picks we have in the draft on a STUD DT!!!!

I thought we were going to pick Leinart when he was there and I wouldn't have minded although I had my doubts with all the talent he had surrounding him at USC, but that's gone. It is not like there weren't other teams who could have picked him but passed.

Also as well as he has played Leinart is 0-2 as a starter right now.

I think the Lions should be kicking themselves more than the Raiders. Even though Kitna hasn't been bad, they don't have any young QB to take the reins.

Kitna could have groomed Palmer AND Leinart.

DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF FASSEL DEPARTURE

Though there's no dispute that Jim Fassel is no longer the Ravens offensive coordinator, there are different versions of how the deal went down.

When we reported the story this morning, we didn't know whether it was a firing, a resignation, a mutual decision, or a Charley Casserly (i.e., an involuntary move sold as voluntary or mutual).

John Clayton of ESPN initially reported that it was a resignation by Fassel. But then the Ravens issued a statement suggesting that it was a termination. And then the AP reported that it was a firing.

Finally, Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reported that it was more of a mutual decision, with head coach Brian Billick telling Fassel that Billick would be more involved in the offense. Fassel responded by saying that, if that's the case, there's no need for Fassel to remain with the team. So Billick released him.

And, as we hear it, it's surprising that the move didn't come sooner. Fassel, we're told, was never allowed to implement his own offense. Instead, the Ravens are still using the offense that Brian Billick carried over from Minnesota in 1999.

Moreover, there was plenty of tension, we hear, between Fassel and quarterbacks coach Rick Neuheisel. A league source tells us that Fassel believed Neuheisel was undermining him by serving as players' the gratuitous good cop to Fassel's periodic bad cop.

Fassel surely will land somewhere, but likely not as a head coach. (But Arizona is a possibility.) He might want to consider heading to the college game, if he wants to be the boss. Otherwise, he needs to look for openings in the ranks of the assistants.

And it's curious, in our view, that Cardinals coach Dennis Green moved so quickly to fired offensive coordinator Keith Rowen and abruptly replace him with Mike Kruczek. Was Green concerned that if he didn't make a move on his own ownership might make it for him?

Another possibility is Oakland, where offensive coordinator Tom Walsh is receiving a ton of external criticism regarding the team's inability to generate yards and points.

Our guess, however, is that Fassel will take the rest of the year off and pick his next spot after the season. It makes the most sense -- especially since he's undoubtedly being paid for the balance of 2006 by the Ravens.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fassel was our QB coach the year after Art's first go around I believe, though for the life of me I can't remember who the OC was....

Any chance we take a look at him as a possible OC with next year in mind?... He kept getting mentioned as a Al Davis guy and HC possibility here...

Heh...Rick Nuweasel! Leopard never changes his spots I guess. On second thought...scratch that mother off my list. I don't want him anymore.

Fickle fickle....

May as well throw this rumor out there...

Apparently 3 or 4 teams have contacted Charlie Weis recently to guage his interest in coaching in the NFL. Supposedly the teams included Arizona, Oakland and possibly Dallas.

I don't know if I buy it though struggling to score points may serve to expedite Art to an executive position and start a search for a coach who has proven ability to put points on the board....

At this point it just makes me feel better to convince myself that the plan all along was to have Art evaluate the roster first hand for a year, then bring in Petrino once his brat kid finishes high school this year....
