I just heard it on NFL Network...they said that Brooks is due 5 million this year and that the Raiders will not pick up his option.

Russell anyone? :)

Brooks Released!!!!!!!!!

The news just keeps getting better!

Ya, I just watched the Lane Kiffen interview and they announced it right after that. Its a done deal, he has been released!

WOOT!

Thats one big roster bonus gone. Now decisions on Curry ($5 million), Jordan ($4.75 million) and Sims ($4.533) have to be made.

After listening to Kiffens interview, I have a gut feeling that Sims might be staying.

Details of the interview?

the interview should be posted on NFL.com sometime today (and I am sure the NFL Network will replay it on Total Access)..

Its just the way he was talking about the oline and that he is already moving people around. Like I said, just a gut feeling that Sims might not be going anywhere.

Raiders cut ties with Brooks after one seasonESPN.com news services

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders, who own the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft, cut ties with Aaron Brooks on Thursday, declining to pick up the option on the quarterback's contract after one difficult season.

Brooks, who would have been due a $5 million roster bonus if he had stayed on the roster, failed to win any of his eight starts with the Raiders. The quarterback, who signed with Oakland after six seasons with the New Orleans Saints, will now look to join his third team in as many years.

The timing of Brooks' release is interesting because the Raiders and first-year coach Lance Kiffin are in Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine, where former LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell will work out and is a candidate to be selected as the top pick. Russell and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn are considered the two top quarterbacks in this year's draft.

Brooks' release saves the Raiders $5.72 million of salary cap room.

Brooks' one season in Oakland got off to a disastrous start when he was sacked seven times in a season-opening 27-0 loss to the Chargers. He got hurt after fumbling two snaps from center the following week in Baltimore and missed the next seven games with a strained pectoral muscle.

Brooks played better after his return in November, but still was unable to generate a win for his new team. He finished the season with a passer rating of 61.7 after completing 57.3 percent of his passes and throwing eight interceptions and three touchdown passes. He was sacked 26 times in eight games.

The problems on Oakland's offense went much deeper than the quarterback. Receivers Randy Moss and Jerry Porter were disgruntled and unproductive all season, running back LaMont Jordan went down with a season-ending knee injury in the same game Brooks returned from his injury, and the offensive line was one of the worst in the league.

Brooks acknowledged late in the season that he never could have imagined all that went wrong in his one season with the Raiders.

Oakland scored just 168 points in 2006, the fifth fewest in a 16-game season, and failed to score on offensive touchdown in eight games. Offensive coordinator Tom Walsh, who had been out of the NFL for more than a decade before returning to the Raiders, was demoted late in the season.

Head coach Art Shell was fired following the 2-14 season, the worst in owner Al Davis' more than four decades with the franchise. Lane Kiffin replaced Shell and has overhauled the offensive coaching staff.

With third-string quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo expected to leave as a free agent, Andrew Walter will likely be the only quarterback to return from last season. Walter went 2-6 in place of the injured Brooks last season, struggling with turnovers and accuracy.

Walter threw 13 interceptions, lost nine fumbles and was sacked 46 times. He completed only 53.3 percent of his passes, threw for three touchdowns and had a passer rating of 55.8.

Oakland also has the No. 1 pick in April's draft and could use it to select one of the two quarterbacks in the draft, JaMarcus Russell out of LSU or Brady Quinn of Notre Dame. The team also could target a veteran in free agency.

Information from The Associated Press and ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton was used in this report.

RIP Giggles

Whenever I see a dude with bugged-out eyes and a stupid, shit-eating grin on his face I'll forever think of you.

This is such a bad move. Aaron Brooks was just about to turn the corner. If he could just complete passes, stop throwing picks, fumbling and losing he would be a lock for MVP. First Rickey Dudley now this. Who are we gonna cut next Derrick Gibson? I knew i shouldnt have bought those jersey's...

buh-bye Giggles...

:D :D

From what I understand, McQuistan is listed as an OT again... I really hope we're not planning on playing Sims at guard again...

I think this is the least surprising move of the off season.

AMF. I hope he winds up in the AFC West somewhere.:D

Cap't Obvious says we are going to be either drafting a QB or signing a FA QB.:p

Got this form rotoworld.com

Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin says he's "excited" about tutoring Andrew Walter and believes he'll be a "very good quarterback."

Walter is currently atop the Raiders' depth chart. Kiffin coached pocket passers throughout his tenure at USC, but neither Matt Leinart nor John David Booty have the arm Walter does. Oakland is expected to add a veteran free agent whether or not they draft a signal caller in April.

Thats crazy. Who knows whats gonna happen.

Makes sense to me

Andrew Walter looked bad in a bad situation. Kiffin saw Walter for three years while at USC. In those games Walter threw for and average of 261 yards per game against a vastly overmatched defense. He also threw 2 TD's and 5 Int's, but maybe KK thinks he can coach the arm and brain, and I wonder if KK didn't seal the HC gig with Al by praising Walter, thus justifying Al's third round steal of "the highest QB on their Board."

Then again, if they want Staley, they want folks to think they want a QB, to trade down.

But hell, really, what ekse is he going to say?...

I will say that I always have been impressed with Walter during his interviews. Even when things were going bad he was a man about it. He went through about as horrible year as any QB has in history without getting injured. If Kiffin really liked Walter it wouldnt be the end of the world. Walter had nothing to work with, terrible o-line play, no running game, no TE, WR"s who didnt wanna play or catch, a horrible plan by Tom Walsh and he was basically a rookie as far as snaps. He took a beating for us and never threw anyone under the bus.
