Mike Williams-WR- Lions Apr. 22 - 9:12 am et

The San Diego Union-Tribune believes Mike Williams could land with the Raiders if he's released by the Lions.

When Williams will be released is still uncertain, but he's fully expected to be off Detroit's roster by the start of the season. It's possible Lane Kiffin will be willing to give up a sixth- or seventh-round draft pick to reunite with the best red-zone threat he ever coached at Southern Cal.

per rotoworld

i'm on board as long as he is willing to play TE.

We've been hearing that rumor for months.

Trade a conditional 2008 or a 6th rounder this year and get him in the mix.

Would he really be worse than Randal Williams?

Well, since you put it that way...

Bring in the next Teyo Johnson. Screw it. Just don't give him a roster spot in favor of an actual WR.

Mike Williams aint playing TE imo. And why should he? he's faster than(and maybe better than) dwayne jarett(who people here wouldnt mind draft at wr). in Kif's system should have no issues getting open. Madsen is the only wr-TE project worth working on i think. Mike Williams is a WR and in the right offense a useful frame to throw to.

I just want a TE that can play.

I do too, that can play TE that is.:D I think The Madsen Project is the only one worth trying. He's putting forth the effort to bulk up and learning how to block. He has great hands and is a load to cover over the middle at his height. Otherwise we signed two TE's who can block fairly well, catch open passes, and thats a good enough start for me. If we draft one with hands and blocking, that would be damn cool. If not, still cool with what we got.

Stewart, Anderson, and Madsen. I'm guessing that's the depth chart now, and on opening day.

Molasses?

Martz' system is pretty good at that, ya know. If you're neither fast nor quick, you're not going to get separation from NFL DBs. Sad fact of life.

Agree to disagree. He'll never be anything more than a potential red zone target/reserve TE, IMO. Truth be told, I expect that he'll be out of the league in 2-3 years.

Crow is dead on. The guy has neither the wheels, quicks, or route-running skills to do anything in the NFL. He was a one-trick pony in college, and that dog don't hunt in this league.

I'll be very disappointed if we pick him up for anything more than a summer/camp 'look-see'..

Why not? Francis & Morant have done nothing in Oakland over the last 3 years. NOTHING.

Moss is (hopefully) gone and Porter is not long for Oakland himself.

Again, why not.

BTW, what a "scoop". Mr. MaGoo could see that BMW will likely get a call from Oakland. Typical sports journalism.

I hope Courtney Anderson is sent packing as part of a trade. He can look unstoppable at times but just seems to make the bonehead drop in key situations it seems. Same with Randall Williams. At least Madsen has shown the ability to catch the ball. I give him that much. I know our record of drafting TE's has been less than stellar, i.e., Jolley, Brigham, Teyo but I really hope we at least draft one TE, preferably late first or early second.

Couldnt agree more. CA has had a chance to be the man and he should restructure for the minimum or bounce. 1.5 millions is a joke for that guy. Id take
T.Stewart, Madsen, Wakefield, Rookie (Z.Miller,B.Patrick) and the cap space any day.

Courtney Anderson sent packing as part of a trade?

Which part of a trade?

He might get dealt to the Toronto Argonauts, but no NFL team would be stupid enough to trade for him...

I might be the only guy in here who would LOVE to get Zach Miller in round 2 (33rd pick)

The dude is a good blocker, and can stretch the field. Lets not forget that until he ran a 4.80 at the combine, he was right there with Greg Olsen as the 1b tight end.

He's leaps and bounds better than Newton, Boss, Allan or even Patrick, IMO and has had 3 great years in college to prove it.

He could step in right away and start, whereas some of the other guys might need grooming. Miller would make Adkisson/Williams/Anderson/Stewart/Wakefield expendable...Or at least 3 out of five.

He isnt lethal like Shockey, or a threat like Heap, but he's more like Jason Whitten or Heath Miller (Without top tier blocking), IMO.

If we trade back up into the second round, then ok. But I'd be disappointed if we blow #33 on him.

I agree. In fact, I'd rather go any number of positions first. Believe it or not, I'm actually OK with the blocking TE's we've signed to go along with a still developing John Madsen and my darkhorse candidate is James Adkisson. Anyone see how rocked up this dude looks lately? Seems like he's wearing the extra weight, ala Shannon Sharpe, quite well. If the hands are there, this could be a very nice slow cooked project by Chef Al Davis....

I'm more than OK with DT, DE, OT, C, OG, WR, OLB, RB - all before we go TE. I realize I'm in the minority with that opinion.

Also, that jerk Jeremy Stevens is still floating around and figures to be for a while. Perhaps he's sufficiently humbled around July?

I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Matt Spaeth in the 4th round, or even with our 3rd round comp pick. Before this recent WR/TE hybrid craze, he would have been the solid all-around blocking/catching TE guy that a team would draft in the 2nd round. He's not particularly fast, no. But he can block his ass off and has soft hands.
