RAIDERS THINKING ABOUT DUMPING RHODES
A league source tells us that the Oakland Raiders are contemplating the possibility of releasing running back Dominic Rhodes.
Over the weekend, Jay Glazer FOX reported that Rhodes had been available via trade.
If Rhodes is released, he will be required to first pass through waivers. If he clears waivers, he will be an unrestricted free agent.
Rhodes arguably should have been named the MVP of Super Bowl XLI. He left the Colts via unrestricted free agency, and he prepped for his foray into free agency peeing all over himself in the back of a police cruiser. Allegedly. He later was suspended for the first four games of the 2007 season for violation of the substance-abuse policy​
 
I guess we may get a look at Bush this season.
 
After two games that he really hasn't had a chance to reall show much. Then we have Jordon that can't seem to stay completely healthy? Maybe it's me but let’s hang on to him as a security blanket.
 
Bush>> Rhodes and I think Fargas has proven himself as our legit scat back in this system. Rhodes may have requested to be traded or released because of not getting touches. Can't rule that out especially when he's spoke of wanting to get touches here. If thats the case i could care less about him being on our roster.

The reality is that none of our RB's are top tier. And maybe the Adrian Peterson parade has Kiffin wanting to see how much the second best all around RB weapon from the draft does in his own right.


With all that said I doubt the rumor is true unless Rhides is bitching about playing time..
 
I'm guessing this has more to do with his mouth than his ability.

Strictly as a player, I'd rather have him than Fargas. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE how hard Fargas runs, and the guy has done nothing to deserve getting cut. But he runs very stiff, I think, and is not at all as smooth or shifty as Rhodes. I just think if Bush is ready, then Rhodes is a better CHANGE OF PACE to Jordan/Bush than Fargas is.

Let's see how his game translates before prouncing him a backup to LJ...

I liken him more to a Maurice Clarett bust than a Frank Gore game breaker at this point.

I want to see him play to make a final judgement though.

Wow. Clarett? Thats a little far. I agree we shouldnt rush to judge him, but he was a monster back before his injury. He was better than MO ever was. We already know we have in LJ, DR and JF. Less than 4.0 a carry. Im ready for some BUSH!

clarrett is an undersized slow back who wasnt that great an athlete with a shitty attitude. But you liken him to Bush? LOL

I cant begin to understand how you drew up that comparison which sounds very prejudging in itself. If anything have no opinion on him rather than a negative one if you're unsure about him.

Either way even on an 18 month layoff he's our most all around skilled RB. Doesnt say much about the rest of the crew under those circumstances, but its the truth at the moment. All our backs are running in the system. None of them are breaking through in it. As much as you can stuff ok RB's in this system, you need a gamebreaker to take it to the next level. which is why Dungver chose to chase Travis Henry rather than go with their system back crew of ok RB's.
 
I thought Rhodes was going to be Kiff's version of Reggie Bush?

Today's reality check brought to us by the 10 Pro Bowl, 4 Super Bowl Russell jihadist.... I'm fully expecting it to dump 10 feet of snow on the beach tomorrow... and the teacher's pet to start Sunday and be named NFL Comeback Player of The Year on Monday.

So if we're now going to actually make coherent and rational arguments regarding rookies... Bush has accomplished just as much as Russell... nothing. So if Bush is now going to be required to actually step onto an NFL football field before being unanimously inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer... is it possible to extend the same criteria to Russell?

The Oakland Tribune considers it unlikely that the Raiders would consider dumping Dominic Rhodes before the end of the season.
Oakland paid Rhodes a $1.5 million signing bonus and Jerry McDonald points out in his Inside the Raiders blog that the team might need Rhodes due to LaMont Jordan's tricky back situation. Still, it appears unlikely that Rhodes will play a large second-half role barring an injury in front of him. Oct. 25 - 7:59 pm et

OK WTF? I don't get it. Somebody (read that Kid Kiffin) is feeling Rhodes is chopped liver already? If that's the case, why isn't Bush activated so we can get a glimpse of him? What the hell are we waiting for? Are we waiting until we're 2-8 so they have a reason to bench McCown and Culpepper and bring in JaSavior? And as far as Bush is concerned wouldn't you think that if his leg isn't 100% by now it never will be. For me, I'm ready to see Michael Bush. LaMont needs to rest his back anyway. Perfect timing if 'ya ask me.

BTW WTF did that pineapple saleman go? Must be "off Island"... :p

That's what makes the situation so strange (assuming there's any truth to it)... which is why I don't think Rhodes can realistically be on the trade block. This is the same Glazer who reported the Raiders had almost the entire defense on the trading block. My guess is that was a motivational ploy on Kiffin's part to light a fire under the defense's ass... just as I think this is an attempt to motivate Rhodes.

I just think this is the growing pains of breaking in a young coach. I don't expect Kiffin to make a living in the league by motivating his players through the media... These tactics will become just as much of a distraction as his ill fated attempt to try and conceal his starting QB the first couple weeks of the season.

Interesting coming from the biggest C-Pep ballwasher on this board.

I've stated a million times that I wanted Russell, we needed a QB and he has more talent than any QB to come out in a few years...

The 10 Pro Bowl, 4 SB comment just shows everyone on here that the primary role you serve on a message board is to antagonize...I get it, and couldnt care less.

The difference between Bush and Russell is that one is a first overall pick with more potential than 95% of the QB's in the league, coming off a fantastic Junior season, while the other is a converted ex-Quarterback who hasnt rushed a football in damn near 18 months and is coming off a leg break...

A big difference IMO and nobody seems to be requesting we dump McCown or Culpepper so Russell can play. (Yet we want to dump Rhodes, Fargas or LJ so that Bush becomes the number 2?)

Doesnt equate for me...

It was a half joking comment showing people that they both had one good year in college (Check that stats if anyone is unsure...Clarett had more yards similiar TD's and the same YPC as Bush as an 19 year old freshman, not as a 22 year old junior.) and they were both highly touted 'steals' in the mid rounds...

We don't know whether we've busted and landed a 'Clarett' or nailed on a starter...

Why release anyone we have, including Fargas or Rhodes?

Thats still pretty off. So we should keep Walter because we dont know whether we landed akili smith or nailed a "starter"? "A Clarrett"? When did he become an official territory for any rb who isnt named lawrence phillips(and even lawrence phillips was seen as a higher prospect). Finally Bush played Dominant in 2 seasons. Just had less carries in his freshman year. Again the clarrett comparison is pretty damn bad. Sounds like its just the first random thing that came to your mind. Again no one called him the next Bo Jackson, but he is by far a better overall prospect than Clarett, and its fairly legit to hold a top 3 RB prospect in high regard to probably start.

I'm sure you think brady quinn is a top tier QB top 2 prospect regardless of where he was drafted, he still was the 2nd qb overall taken much like Bush was the 3rd rb taken and legit probability that he goes before marshawn lynch if he doesnt have that second surgery. Clarrett was drafted low because he was small, fat, had one of the most disappointing combines you could see, and slow as a snail(a not fully healthy coming off broken leg Bush out ran him). Anyone who thought Clarrett was a legit prospect back then was on crack. :pound:
