Raiders take a Knapp

For what it's worth, here were the QB numbers for the San Fran QBs under Knapp:

And oh yeah, the 49ers used a RB duo each of those years ... Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow, just as the Falcons have done with Dunn/Duckett and Norwood last year.

Agreed.

He'll be 38 next season, and will provide us with another 1-2 year stop gap before having to look elsewhere...

He doesnt fit with what we want to do with our offense either...

If he slips down to 11 like Lienart we should trade down and take him rather than JR at #1. We could pick up another first next year and some more this year.

How will we know if he slips down?

What if we trade back and he gets scooped up before we pick?

We're left with our hand on our dick, drafting a guy like Dwayne Jarrett, who is a good prospect, but not on the top guys level, IMO.

I would love it if we drafted Peterson or CJ at the 1 spot, and mortgaged our second and third rounder this year and a one next year to move UP and draft a slipping Russell or Quinn...

Come out of the draft with:

1b: Quinn
3 (From Chazz Woodson): Johnny Lee Higgins or Jason Hill

Thats sounds great but im not going to get greedy. If we traded down there are 6 blue chip prospects in my mind, so we should go no lower than six with out getting CRAZY compensation from someone. Moving from #6 up to #1 would cost the farm anyway. we could pick up another second and first next season alone for that if not more. I guess i would rather have the #6 player and a bunch more picks than gamble with #1, kind of a pussy approach, but we have alot of holes. My 6 elite players are:

#1. Calvin Johnson- Cant miss superstar, write it down. im100% sure.

#2. Adrain Peterson- A collarbone and high ankle sprain dont scare me, but its not my money. I think he would be a LT, LJ type force in the AFC west. An All Day threat from the backfield.

#3. Joe Thomas- 6'8" monster franchise LT (More like O.Pace than Gallery) Knee injuries do make me worry though.

#4. Alan Branch- This guy is another Ted Washington with less fat. Run Stoppa who can help our D take another step.

#5. J.Russell- Defines "boom or bust" Huge rocket arm, improved every year, Mobile with a big frame, played in tough conf. Does he have the brains to read NFL defense fast enough?

#6. B.Quinn- All time ND passer. Highly toughed by many experts for last few years. Runs a pro style offense, nice arm, mobile, has good leadership and seems good at reading defense's. Has he played enough good competition? Are those big game losses b/c of him, or the roster at ND? Weiss and Kiper love him. Safer than JR. Lower ceiling but higher floor.

My next group would be. M.Lynch, D.Jarett, A,Okoyi, Tedd Ginn, Gaines Adams and Laundry. If we trade past 6 we can easy get any two of these players if we wanted to.
 

.....I went to a Greg Knapp thread and Draft Talk broke out !!! I guess having the #1 draft pick will do that to a message forum.

Knapp? I won't pretend to be all knowing on this one, but my understanding on Knapp is that he's bright & well respected and on the surface, this would appear to be a good signing by the Raiders.

You know, the team that "no one" wants to coach for. Whatever. This team can go nowhere but up and many of these bright, young & fresh coaches can see that. Fuck the retreads. I backed Art Shell longer than anyone, but I'm beyond glad we didn't go after a Denny Green or Jim Fassel. That would have been completely uninspiring IMO.

Any word on O-line coach? Slater can go as far as I'm concerned.

I'll go read the article now. Talk about doing things in reverse order.

Knapp Joins Raiders Coaching Staff as Offensive Coordinator

Greg Knapp, who has 21 years of coaching experience including 12 at the NFL level, joins The Oakland Raiders as offensive coordinator. The 43-year old Knapp has served as an offensive coordinator at the NFL level for the past six seasons - from 2004-06 for the Atlanta Falcons and from 2001-03 for the San Francisco 49ers.
"We are extremely excited to have Greg on board and be part of a new and exciting era of Raider football," said Raiders Head Coach Lane Kiffin. "I've been familiar with his success coaching in this league for some time now and he shares the same vision and passion for what it will take to bring an explosive offense back to the Raider Nation. His history of getting his quarterbacks to play at an elite level is second to none. He's thrilled about moving back to the Bay area and we're excited to have him."

Under Knapp's direction, the Falcons led the NFL in rushing for the past three seasons. His influence enabled the Falcons to produce two 1,000-yard performers in 2006 while averaging 183.7 yards per game. With Knapp as coordinator, the Falcons led the league in rushing in 2005, averaging 159.1 yards per game and producing a 1,000-yard rusher and three Pro Bowlers on offense. In 2004, Knapp's first season in Atlanta, the Falcons averaged 167.0 yards per game while advancing to the NFC Championship Game, had two Pro Bowlers and a 1,000-yard rusher.

Under Knapp's direction in 2003, the 49ers finished in the top five in total offense (355.4 yards per game) and rushing offense (142.4 yards per game). The 49ers also finished in the top 10 in passing offense (213.0 yards per game), scoring offense (24.0 points per game) and fewest sacks allowed (28).

In 2002, Knapp was the architect of a 49ers offense that ranked eighth in the NFL in total offense, produced a 3,000-yard passer, a 100-catch receiver and set an NFL mark for 16-game season in third down conversion rate at 52.3 percent while allowing only 22 sacks. In his first season as an NFL coordinator in 2001, Knapp directed a 49ers offense that ranked fourth in total offense, second in the league in rushing and produced five Pro Bowlers.

Knapp began his professional coaching career with the San Francisco 49ers in 1995, serving as quality control assistant from 1995-97 before being promoted to quarterbacks coach in 1998 and then offensive coordinator in 2001. Knapp has coached a quarterback to the Pro Bowl in nine out of his 12 years in the NFL-Michael Vick, 2004 and 2005; Jeff Garcia, 2000, 2001, 2002; and Steve Young, 1997 and 1998.

To me, it sounds like we're building a run-oriented offensive coaching staff.. which is MUSIC to my ears. It also makes me think we're going "All Day" on Draft Day.. but putting out the interest-vibes in QB-land to try and get a bite from any of the next 3-5 teams behind us in the draft order.

Although he HAS always had a pro-bowl QB and gone the committee approach with the running game.
