Hey y'all. I thought I'd share the results of a mock draft I'm having on another forum. Each team has a GM assigned to the draft (no Free Agency) and is limited to no more than 2 trades, with current players ineligible to be included in trades.

We went off of AdamJT13's comp picks until the real one's were announced. So I didn't have a 3rd round comp, but got the top 4th round comp and was still able to move back up into the 3rd to get a guy I really wanted.

So far we're through the top of the 6th round. Here are the results... what do you all think?

Round 1: JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Round 2: Ben Grubbs, OG, Auburn
Round 3: Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware
Round 3 (from Denver)**: Tim Crowder, DE, Texas
Round 4 (comp pick): Courtney Taylor, WR, Auburn
Round 5 (from New England): Jackie Battle, RB, Houston
Round 6: Stephen Nicholas, LB, South Florida
Round 7 (comp pick): Jacob Bender, OT, Nicholls St.

UDFA's:
Joe Cohen, DT, Florida
Jessee Daniels, S, LSU

** In a trade that would never happen, Oakland and Denver agreed to a deal that allowed Oakland to move back up into the mid-3rd in exchange for their 4th, 5th, and 7th round picks (it was about a 22 pick jump).

Pretty good draft overall...

Russell :D

Auburn pulls their linemen alot so Grubbs is an excellent fit IMO...

Big TE, big RB with upside... Taylor is a good fit as a WCO WR...

I would have liked to see an OT taken at some point, although there's been rumors that McQuistan has been moved back to his natural OT spot...

The only question I have is where Crowder fits... Can he make the adjustment to playing at the RE spot? Or does he stay put and back up Burgess?... Do we put 20 pounds on him and move him inside to DT?...

No one can be unhappy with that one. Patrick would be sweet.

Crowder seems like a likely pick somewhere along the way.

I like the first four for damn sure.

Nice work all around.

Top tier QB, OL, TE talent and some other work horses...

Certainly can't argue with the top three picks. That's about as good as it can get. I assume, that Ryan Khalil was gone by the second. Not sure about Crowder. Seems to have a lot of the same characteristics as Tyler Brayton. I probably would have looked at another OL here, maybe Doug Free if he was still available or a DT possibly, although DE is surely a need area. Don't know much about Courtney Taylor so I can't comment either way. Like the selection of Jackie Battle. Is extremely fast for a guy his size and would give us some nice depth in the backfield. Real nice sleeper pick.

Overall a solid draft

Very Nice. I really hope we go O-LIne in round two.

For some reason I want a DL in round two...

Way too much value there, (IE getting top 25 talent 10 spots later) although I understand the logic in trading up for a falling player in the third round...

If the Raiders stay at 2.1 (I'm laying even money they aren't), I think those of us chilling in the draft thread are gonna be predicting a D-lineman or a WR. Just too many players at those two positions.

BTW, 007, I heard an interview with Rob Rang, from NFLdraftscout.com, and guess who he named as a dark horse candidate to be a 1st round pick?

Give you a hint, he plays DE for the Rainbow Warriors.

You know if Ted Ginn as there at the end of the first, it will be too much for the old man to resist:p

Damn Rob Rang to hell!

Alama Francis is MY sleeper, and I don't care if HBoy is his bum buddy neighbor or not...

If he goes round one, I'll be mildly suprised, although his athleticism is off the charts for his size, IMO

To answer a few questions...

I have Crowder as a late 2nd right now. And yes, he's a little like Brayton in that he does a lot of things well coming out of college but nothing great. I do think he's got more burst as a pass-rusher coming off the edge than Brayton does. He's less of a chase-and-pursue type and more of a dictating DE. I like that about him. Couldn't pass on him once he slipped to mid-3rd.

I didn't realize just how piss poor this draft was at DT until I started doing research for picks. I had Tank Tyler as a possibility in the 2nd, but couldn't convince myself to take him over Grubbs, who is an awesome fit for Cable's scheme. After that, it was guys like Brandon Mebane going at the top of the 3rd, and I just can't justify that.

I really liked my Courtney Taylor pick. He's a big body WR who's perfect for the WCO, which Kiffin will bring elements of. He'd push Johnnie Morant from Day 1.

But the best pick, IMO? Ben Patrick at the top of the 3rd. IMO, this is the most complete TE in the draft 3 years from now. Splits the seam very well, has soft hands, is a good blocker, and is smart. I just really like this kid and see loads of potential for him in Kif's offense.

Oh, and why no OT, hawaiianboy?

Well, I took Grubbs in the 2nd so I didn't want to double up in the 3rd. Once I traded back up into the 3rd to get Crowder I lost the 4th and 5th as a price. I figured Crowder would contribute to the team more than a 4th round OT... and I had to throw Rob Ryan a bone, ya dig?

Another contributing factor is I'm just not thrilled with this OT class. Ugoh's ok, but not #33 overall worthy IMO. Guys like Marten and Barbre have their question marks too.

I actually had Stephens and Chase Johnson as my #1 and #2 going into the 6th round but the Steelers took Johnson with their 5th round comp pick and there wasn't an OT left that could even approach Stephens' value at that point. And while I love Chase's size, I'm not sure he's a great fit for Cable's scheme.

2 questions Natty...

Where did Ginn go? (Not that I want him, but am curious to see if fans are dropping him...)

What about Zach Miller as well?

Agree with this. Where we are picking, if we take an OT in the 2nd, it's a reach. Staley is going to be gone. There are too many teams using zone blocking to pass on a 300-pounder that runs under 4.8.

I am starting to revisit the Kalil idea, if he's there. In Cable's ZBS, I could see Grove at G, next to Kalil.

i wouldnt be surprised to see staley there. hell i wouldnt be too surprised to find Levi Brown within spitting distance. id take either

:p

They had a local report on his pro day today and apparently there's quite a few teams looking at him as an OLB and 3 or4 teams looking at him as a TE.... The TE thing is actually not that surprising, I think that's where he would have played if June Jones actually utilized one... They started him off at WR at first and he looked pretty good there from what I understand...

Wow.

Uber-athlete extraordinaire.

Ima gonna go look at his Pro day numbers if I can dig them up.

Im guessing 6-5 275 with a 4.75 forty...Not bad.

The athletes worked out at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on FieldTurf. About 60 people were on hand, including Jets coach Eric Mangini, Packers GM Ted Thompson, Dolphins GM Randy Mueller, Browns GM Phil Savage and Tony Softli, Rams' vice president for player personnel.

They were mostly there to see defensive lineman Ikaika Alama-Francis, who didn't worked out at the Combine due to an injury. His father, Joe Francis, was the first Hawaiian quarterback to play in the NFL. He was drafted in 1958 by the Green Bay Packers.
Player Position Gil's comments
Ikaika Alama-Francis DL Alama-Francis (6-5 1/8, 276) ran his 40s in 4.85 and 4.88 seconds. He also had a 35-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-6 broad jump. He also ran 7.31 in the cone drill and 4.62 in the short shuttle, but slipped and didn't want to run again after he stretched his groin. Alama-Francis looked outstanding in positional workout drills. And as part of Francis' workout, he did tight end drills as well and really looked good.

I just found this.

Heh, I was pretty close, although I figured he would be quicker.

Bro, ya snagged my boy SN. As much as a homer USF alum as there is. He aint gonna cut it in the NFL.

Good overall picks. Russell, Grubbs and Patrick?

Very nicely done
