Maybe this could be a one stop shopping for rumors we pick up about players we may be gunning for.

I'll start with a pleasant one. Yanked from another board:

Raiders very interested in Leonard Davis

Leonard Davis Mike Jurecki of XTRA Sports reported that the Cardinals had begun to shop around Left Tackle Leonard Davis. Some of the potential suitors were the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders. According to a morning report from Jurecki it looks like the Raiders have really gone after Davis hard and trade talks are moving along quickly

IIRC, he's a FA. Wonder if the Cards are intending to franchise him......

I think that is an excellent idea...if we can only get EVERYBODY to read this thread before posting a "scoop" in a new thread...we'll make it a sticky and see what happens...

I'd love it if we could land Davis. I have my doubts but it's the one area that really needs help and if we're gonna dive into FA this might be the guy. KKK better get his recruiting hat on and bring Al 's check book with him. From what I have read the Cards aren't interested in keeping him which makes little sense to me but that is what I have been reading.

i like davis enough to bring him in... however i do not want him at LT. hes worse then gallery there.

Great idea for the thread. I also hate wading through too many threads. I'm not advocating a singular general discussion thread only, but I do think quality is much better than quantity however.

Leanard Davis? I'm interested. Very interested, but we should bear in mind that we WILL overpay to nab him IMO.

Assuming he projects at RT, I guess that means Gallery remains at LT? Whew, seems to me that it's a big gamble that he's a lock to be a solid starter, but perhaps year 2 at LT makes all the difference in the world? Hard to say.

I don't know much about big Leonard, but wasn't he playing at left guard at one point? Was he no good there? That would fill a huge need, but I can't see us devoting that much dollar to two questionable left side guys, especially if we have visions of putting McQ or Boothe there.

LD can play any position other then C on the line

hes an average LT, great LG/RG, and above average RT.

that said i think he projects to RT for us.

Teams interested in Carr...

I honestly think Al pulls the trigger on this guy.

Just because Al's wants to win now and if he does draft a QB that will unlikely happen.

If we do get Carr for a 3rd and draft either AP or Calvin I would be happy

with some new O-lineman ofcourse

IMO this will be the fastest way to try and win next year I think?

and AL doesn't have many years in him left

Shouldnt we drop that coin on Steinbach?

"We got some thar' serious problemo's on that interior front feller's"

Leonard Davis aint any better than Gallery

We need a vet guard and a road grading Center

I think that Davis rumor is like 4 months old and was out there before the trade deadline. A 370 guy in a zone blocking scheme. Not going to work so well.

If Al wants to win now, why would he want to bring in a guy that has done nothing but LOSE as an NFL QB ... ?

I honestly think that if Kubiak would rather go with Plummer rather than Carr, it's a big red flag.

Kubiak knows the position.

I've got serious doubts about D. Carr ever being a steady winner in the NFL.

Steinbach's going to command $45 million in coin, Nips. Davis can be had for probably between $25 -- $30 million. In order for the Raiders to outbid everyone for Steinbach they'd have to go into the $50 million range. If they wanted to outbid for Davis it would be the $35 million range... big difference.

Plus, with teams like Chicago, Miami, and New Orleans all at a better place in terms of winning and salary cap space there's absolutely no chance Oakland lands Steinbach.

Given the Raiders' record the last 3 years and the fact that every team not named Indianapolis has money to spend you can emphatically cross off Steinbach, Freeney, Samuel, Clements, and any other potential blue-chip Free Agent. Ain't gonna happen this year.

THe more I think about it, the more I believe that we should NOT throw big money at FA's in 2007.

This is going to be a "rebuild" year. Kiffin & Company need to bring in hardworking 'lunchpail' type guys, install the system and evaluate the players in 2007. I believe that it makes more sense to bring in a big name FA's in 2008 when them, in theory, will be poised to win.

I just want to cut bait on the bad apples, get our draft picks in and start building that way. Top dollar FA's can wait until 2008.

I don't know, Coletto had 4 guys in the 350+ pound range starting on his O-line in an area/zone blocking scheme for awhile there in Baltimore a few years back and did well with it... Granted we have no one the caliber of Jon Ogden, but LDavis is better than either Bennie Anderson or Orlando Brown IMO... That said, I believe Cable ran out all guys right around the 300 pound mark in Atlanta so the big booty man may not be what we target...

Davis probably goes back to Tejas with the Cowboys when all is said and done anyways...

well if they can give carr some O=line then he might have a better shot at winning and mabye a decent running back

I don't know really I would rather win now too honestly

My emotions are screwed with the raiders I need a winning season or at least 500

I get a freaky prominition every time I think about Carr. He's like Plunkett - spookily so.

Both were #1 overall picks for a new franchise (Patsies moved to foxboro from Boston and became the New England Patriots in 1971 and then drafted Plunkett) who lined up for five years behind a horrible O-line and year after year got the crap sacked out of them, both winning exactly 24 games over this span. Plunkett was 29 when the Patsies dumped him - Carr turns 28 this summer. Plunkett and Carr are both California Natives who starred in colleges in California (Stanford and Fresno) and had phenominal senior seasons.

If Al really is getting nostalgic, this may be in the cards.

I think it's even possible that we trade one of our 3rd round picks to Houston for Carr, rework his contract, Dump Brooks (Tui's g-g-g-gone) and draft Jamarcus Russell. Go into next season in an open competition to win the starting and back-up role.

Al could also take a different #1 (CJ or AP most likely) and hope that Carr or Walter works out, thus improving several offensive positions quickly (win now baby!).

The Al side of my brain really likes Carr and thinks he can prove out his #1 draft pick status.

that said...

KFFL reports that the team would be willing to trade Carr for a second-to-sixth round pick, creating the strictest of parameters for a deal. Meanwhile, the St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting that the Vikings and Texans have discussed the possibility of Carr coming to Minnesota for a fourth-rounder. http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/16693302.htm

Not sure if Carr would want to come into a situation where he'd be the lame duck QB. We'd have too much invested in Ja Russ to sit as a back up too long. If we don't draft a QB, then I'd be for bringing Carr in. He's got roots in Calif and I think it would be a good situation for him to try to resurrect his career.

I can dream...

Agreed. I don't think the scenario is likey, but it would be a trade and I don't know if he could do much about it.

Imagine this:

Trade Moss for a 2

trade for Carr with a 3

Draft CJ to replace Moss

Pick up a real TE (Zach Miller or Greg Olson?) and Running Back (Bush or Irons?) in round 2
Round 3 - One pick on the O-line (Manuel 'Manny' Ramirez?) - and one pick for a DT (Antonio Johnson?)

Leonard Davis in FA
Steinbach in FA
Move Grove back to Guard

Line up Porter, CJ and Curry, with Carr and Bush as the backs. O-line - Gallery, Ramirez, Steinbach, Grove, Davis with Miller as TE.

We could improve the offense dramatically in a single year and be very young with a few key veterens to lead the team.

Looks pretty damn good to me

Of all the vet QB scenarios, picking up David Carr would be my favorite... I think he has/had talent and it was a little unfortunate that he was put into a situation where he was put behind a bad line on an expansion team to boot... Of course, the situation here isn't all that great either... Kiffen knows him from his Fresno days which is a plus, but I worry about the beaten dog syndrome... He's taken some serious abuse behind bad pass pro over the years and I worry that has made him somewhat gunshy...

I could live with going with Carr provided the 1st pick then becomes Adrian Peterson in a small tradedown ... I like Calvin Johnson, but getting either the QB and RB situation straightened out is more of a priority than the WR spot IMO...
