ESPNews reports Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn is expected to hold out during contract negotiations.
Makes me even happier we passed on this "Chosen One".

Im fully expecting a long contract battle with J-Russ too.

When its 30 mil gauranteed and 60 mil contracts, Im sure both sides will be battling each step of the way.

Quinn wasnt the first hold out and won't be the last.

What exactly is Quinn's argument here? The Browns traded what was projected to be a top 10 2008 first round pick for me so I want to be paid like one?...

Unless he's arguing total years of the contract, the terms of his contract should be pretty cut and dried based on what last years 22nd overall pick got...

He might want gauranteed money instead of longer, back laden contracts;

He might want some 'starter' type incentives;

He might want an opt out clause; (It is Cleveland ;) )

There are so many factors that go into contracts nowadays, that Im suprised people thought he wasnt going to hold out...

So on the record you expect J-Russ to miss any or all of training camp due to holding out? :)

The Raiders are notorious for getting their rookies signed. Last guy I remember coming close to a hold out was Hawthorne, but he gave it up over a couple day span I think. Not saying J-Russ doesn't hit a snag in contract talks. But odds are in favor of no holdouts especially with moss's contract cleared off the books. Also as the #1 qb taken in the #1 slot in the draft, I think Russell has a more solid sure number to work with than Quinn at 22 wanting more than #22 pick probably..

Maybe he feels 2nd qb taken has extra value. Leinart wasn't picked until he got to the cards and tried to hold out possibly for a *second qb taken* amount of money.

Whats your point?

I said I expect his signing to be a huge battle, if he misses time as a 21 year old rookie in order to get the best deal...It won't shock me. :)

We've never picked first in the modern era. Its a big deal, and one that sets the precedent for the years to follow. We might be notorious for signing 10th overall picks and late first rounders like Brayton, Aso, Harris and Buchanon, but we are in for a dog fight locking down the biggest contract out of this rookie class..

How is a sixth round scrub even remotely similiar to the first pick in the draft?

Back on topic, man...

Nope. There arent any odds.

All bets are off, considering the fact that we've never been in this position before.

I'll be ecstatic if J-Russ signs his big deal soon, but I expect his agent and family to have due dilligence and take their time in getting the right deal.

Doesnt mean I like, but I expect a battle possibly heading into training camp or longer.

No odds? :confused: If anything the odds seem are better because like I said he's in a spot where you know the estimated figures. Not #22 wishing he was #3. Alot also has to do with his agent too. But if his agent were on some Poston ish, he's an idiot to let him participate in any offseason activities. Also you're forgetting that the raiders could have very well already gotten close to a figure before they drafted him(you can initiate contract negotiations before the draft with #1 picks) Though they never said the deal was struck, i highly doubt they just strolled into the draft blind w/o getting close to a figure. That luxury is another reason the odds are better for him to get signed as a #1 pick.

Holdout was the topic, didnt really compare him shot for shot with russell. just said he was the last raider pick i even remember contemplating a holdout. You need to stop being so jumpy for a hardcore debate and read what I posted before pushing it off. Can't remember the last first rounder who held out, just that 6th rounder wishing he was a 3rd rounder. You feel this is different, I agree. But I differ on it being a negative.

My point was to make sure that you felt he wasn't going to get a deal signed by training camp. Not much else as far as that question goes. Relax a little guy. lol Also I never said you'd like anything. What we'd like I hope is the same since we follow the same team. Just a discussion about what we see happening.

A hold out wouldn't suprise me either. Frankly, it might turn out to be a blessing in disguise if it keeps him on the bench for the season.
