Okay, it’s not the same studio, just retro fitted to look like it.
 
IIRC, Jim Cornette stated the Mulkey brothers were tough guys. They’d get tossed out of the ring onto the concrete floor and hit without grabbing the ropes to slow their fall down.


They were heavy smokers so they liked short matches. I heard a tag team, Arn and Tully?, who made a match go 5-6-7 mins to mess with them. They were gasping for breath.
 
“Who made the Mulkey Brothers go a long match to mess with them, seeing they were heavy smokers?”

That story comes from Bobby Eaton talking about when he and Stan Lane (as the Midnight Express) deliberately stretched a match with the Mulkey Brothers.

Eaton explained that instead of squashing them quickly (which was the norm), they worked a long house show match—around 40 minutes—basically to mess with them because:

  • The Mulkeys were heavy smokers
  • They had terrible cardio
According to Eaton, they were already completely blown up about 10 minutes in, “literally crawling” from exhaustion while the Midnight Express kept the match going for laughs and to entertain themselves and the crowd.

So the answer is:
👉 Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane (The Midnight Express) were the ones who dragged them into a long match knowing it would gas them out.

Been out of pocket most of the day. Missed the Brock/Oba match. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
 
Annual Did I ever tell ya I was at the original Wrestlemania in the Garden? RIP Piper, Orndoff & Hulk.

Ladder match had the best pacing and highlights. Brock retiring biggest shock. Danhausen bit the most laughs.

Most matches were good, not great quality.

Cant be sure exactly when breaks were. But mostly getting people out of the ring. My understanding is they didn't show first 3 entrances for ladder match - saw them live. Brock took a long time for his exit with leaving gear, etc.

I saw something about night one having a roughly equal amount of time dedicated to ads as there was in-ring action. That's just appalling. Maybe night two wasn't as egregious.
