I wasn't and still don't know if Leonard was the right hire, but I never understood the logic of him being hires to appease Maxx only to turn around and trade him or even entertaining trade offers for him. That doesn't make any sense at all

Agree, it's not like the DC is game planning or really doing anything in the preseason other than evaluating his players.
But just say he sucks and with the Raiders track record it will probably be true.

And no these players don't practice live tackling and wrapping up. Better athletes today that train year around but are worse fundamentally.
 
I wasn’t the one saying they hired him to appease Maxx but they could have hired him in an attempt to do so and Maxx still wanted out. I didn’t check to see if the timeline supports that theory. I just thought it was a limp dick hire from the get go but we’ll have a season here to find out.

I'd have to see credible proof that Maxx lobbied for him. I'm not entirely buying it. If that was the case, they wouldn't have tried to trade Maxx. I think it was late in the game and they had few options. Jim Schwartz was never an option so let's move on from that.

Like most of the first year players and other coaches, everyone is auditioning for their future here. I know most here hated the hire but let's give him a few regular season games before we throw him under the bus. There's a lot of new faces on that defense and it's not going to happen after one pre-season game.

That's pretty encouraging to see him play well. I would just leave him as the back up to Kolton and don't try to force him to play RT. I think Zuhn has that pretty well covered if Glaze shits the bed. I would have liked to have seen more of Glaze. He hasn't exactly earned the same consideration they gave some of the other starters.

Seems like the staff is pretty happy with where Glaze is at right now. Zuhn will back him up. OL is looking better than it has in a long time. We won't know if Grant is a keeper until we see him have to deal with elite rushers.

It's one game (meaningless game) after 10 training camp practices.

Over the years, I've also seen too much Raider fans over reactions to one game, one training practice, etc.

Defense is nearly completely turned over. So many young guys. Did Walker and Dean play? This is still a 3-14 team and FA $ and draft picks for one off season only go so far.

Is Leonard the answer at DC? Nobody knows. Halfway through the season we'll get a better idea and even better, at the end of year for a full sample size.

Yes, and I’d argue the entire starting OL should see more action in the preseason. This unit needs to build some chemistry and confidence after being a complete shitshow last year. I’m sure the coaching staff wants to see them battle-tested beyond what one series can provide. I’d also like to see Nando get some preseason reps behind the starters.

I suspect KK will be giving them more work in the next game.

I bet one of these two remaining games Nando starts and Kirk doesn't play. He obviously doesn't need preseason reps.

It was pretty encouraging to already see the offense playing like a real NFL offense and most of the starters were yanked after the first couple of series. Bech's play was a very positive sign but will see if that continues. Not worried about the offensive play calling with KK.

We will know by mid season if Leonard can coach a defense. I'm reading that he will bring multiple looks and blitz a lot more this season. We will find out in short order. KK doesn't strike me as a HC that will have much patience with an inept defense.
