Post Game thoughts? -- The Morning after the Night Before

Alright, I've give you that Boothe is looking decent. But until I see some consistency there over 2-3 games or longer, the entire right side is suspect IMO.

*shrug*

Only time will tell. Sure would be nice to say that we only need to get ahold of 1-2 quality linemen for next year instead of 2-3.

These were my observations on another board, but since there actually seem to be people visiting this one, I'll repost them:

-- The offense had its opportunities, and squandered them. They had a missed FG, two turnovers in FG range and one turnover on downs in FG range.

-- I don't blame Moss for the missed TD pass that resulted in the missed FG. But I do blame him for Walter's INT. He's got to go fight to break that up, at least.

-- Moss runs a lot of deep patterns, and as a result needs a lot of plays off for a breather, especially at Mile High. But man, it's scary to see him leave the game and know that Whitted and Curry are the only guys out there. When will Morant get a freakin' chance? There has got to be some reason other than his ability that he's not playing.

-- Defense showed up. That was nice. Howard still flying all over the field, and Burgess brought the heat. Still, if not for a dropped pass at the 2, they'd have been down 17-0 in the first half.

-- Al Davis literally looks like a dead man propped up in his seat by the PR staff, like some twisted and unfortunate sequel to Weekend at Bernie's.

-- This team and this coaching staff does Walter no favors. Any QB you bring in here would have numbers as bad as Walter. Frankly, he's played better than his numbers just about every week (maybe not in San Fran). There were some inexcusable drops again last night, plus Moss' loafing on the INT.

-- Much as I like the way Fargas ran against San Fran (not only with speed, but with determination and power), his brittleness once again highlighted this team's need to burn a high pick on a RB. If the Saints can draft Reggie Bush second while Deuce is sitting there in New Orleans and make it work, then surely the Raiders can draft Marshawn Lynch with Jordan already here.

-- If the Raiders are picking first (and it appears that will be the case), I might still be inclined to take the best available lineman. I know we've burned a lot of picks on OL the past few years, and I know you've got to have continuity and give the guys a chance to grow with each other, but there are a couple steaming turds who are never going to grow into mushrooms on this team. Yeah, Langston, I'm talking about you. At least Slaughter's only real problem is the yips. As Madden pointed out last night, when Slaughter wasn't jumping back before the snap, he was actually doing a very good job with his assignments (other than Dumervil's speed rush once, which looked like a miscommunication between Slaughter and Courtney Anderson to me). But Langston Walker is freaking useless out there. Gallery's getting there, too.

-- Our TE situation underscores my offseason mancrush on Vernon Davis. Damned coin toss. I don't know if we'd have taken Huff anyway, since we didn't take any other TEs, but it's hard to imagine passing on a guy like that.

-- At this point, Walter has GOT to remain in the starting lineup. Not because I think he's the truth (though I do), but because you'd be undermining the team's longterm mission by going back to Brooks. You can't save this season. Don't try. Everything they do now should be with an eye toward 2007. That means more Morant, more Routt, maybe even some Will Buchanon.

-- F*ck Al Michaels.

-- I don't like Andrea Kremer's gossip column on the sidelines. How often do you hear sideline reporters report on a WR badmouthing his QB on the sideline? If that wasn't Randy Moss, would she have bothered? I would understand if there was a visible tirade, like T.O. does. But a lot of schit gets said on a football field. If you're going to dedicate time to that, you'd best just put her in one of those Football 360 boxes and let her repeat everything she hears.

-- Sadly, one of the most positive things I took out of the offensive performance last night was LaMont Jordan's fumble. This team is going to be 0-5, and he showed a lot of passion on the sidelines after that. I love that it bothers him so much. There's one guy who at least as some pride out there.

Positive takes from last night IMO:

Routt IMO is doing a great job filling in for Fabs and getting some good playing time, sit Fabs as long as needed so it doesn't turn into a chronic hammy situation. Let Routt continue his progress.

Our LB's are playing good, Morrision is a stud I love this kids heart and energy, Howard is doing a good job for a rook, and as long as Sam Willams statys healthy we are looking good, throw in a healthy Irons and I'm happy.

Our secondary as a whole has come a long way and will continue to grow this year, regardless of where Huff is he is still a rookie and doing just fine, I have no doubt over the years this kid will be a pro bowler.

BURGESS nuff said!

Our Oline while still learing and growing has come a long way since weeks one and two, Gallery is improving and growing, Boothe seems to be a good find, Grove is staying healthy, Slaugher blocks well and all the false starts last night are not indicitive to how he usually plays, I would like to see him get time in place of Langston.

Walter stepping into this shitstrom is showing that he may well be our future, lets remember that he is playing behind a line that is learning, a questionable HOF receiver giving up on routes all over the field and dropping balls from TE's, receviers and backs, IMO Walter gets a pass all season to grow and learn, I for one would love to see Morant get more time and he has his timing down with him and Morant won't give up on his routes.

LJ is at least showing emotion and runs hard when giving the holes, as much as I was pulling for Fargas after his good start he has shown again that he is not durable, I really hope we draft Petersen and have LJ spell him, Fargas is a FA I don't know if we keep him.

This all said last night was very hard to watch, we are close, I can feel it, I can see improvements, I can see setbacks, I do see a great tomorrow, this year was about beginning the climb back and I like lots of things I'm seeing, while disugusted with others, the things that bring disgust will not exsist next season.

I thought Morrison was pretty bad last night, actually. I saw him miss at at least three good opportunities to make a tackle.

I agree that last night was not his best game, but I love this kid, he plays with passion and he's a hometown boy to boot.

And don't forget the pile driver that Big Terd got flagged for at the end of the game. I can live with that penalty. That guy showed me a pulse.

Definitely agreed there. He's been a silver lining for more than a year now.

Just wish the rest of the team would catch up to him.

True. Used to be that wouldn't be a penalty unless it was a QB.

Used to be that wouldn't be a penalty even if it was a QB.

I know the whistle blew, and it was a justifiable flag. But I liked it.

Personally I loved that penalty, it was right after they cheap shotted Sims, I only wished he would have threw him down a little harder:mad:

Who let Jack in here?

Where's the mod?

Haha, good to see ya brother.

Agreed with most of what you said too.

TERD ROCKS, btw.

I thought Tyler Brayton had a halfway decent game. Made several nice plays and didn't bite on that Plummer bootleg. It wasn't one of Morrison's better effort. He seems to get swallowed up or out of positon at times but he's a work in progress.

I agree, but it looked like Denver was targeting him as he always seemed to have a body on him. Of course, I said that's what their OL does by manning up one-on-one instead of double teaming (of course that's on running downs).

Some of that out of position I think was due to Denver coming at him all night and his trying to run around it instead of attack it. Live and learn really.

With all this good back and forth (and the fact that I'm crazy busy this week) I'm going to skip this week's installment of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. If the conversation stays this lively, it might never resurface. I'll still bust tail for the preview though.

I hate to say this because I think the guy's all heart on the field, but part of me wants Sapp to just retire, just so Terdell can get on the field more.

Gotta toss Jack some credit here... He's been pimping Terd as a legit starter since early last season while I felt he was more of a role player that needed to have his snaps limited... While Terd's tendancy to wear his pants above belly button level ala Bones is disturbing, the guy is playing with intensity and effectiveness every time out....

Up until late last season Terd was getting driven off the line. Then he abruptly started anchoring. I was very impressed this pre-season when he started throwing 300+ OL like they were 250-ish guys. Eye-popping stuff.

Two seasons ago Terd flat-out dominated Baltimore, but otherwise played very little all year.

Well...there goes the neighborhood.
