I didn't read the 250 million page game thread... so some of this might be redundant....

First off, I really liked what I saw out there today. Sure I didn't expect to win when I saw how thin we'd be on our already suspect DLine... but even if we're not good enough to beat the upper echelon of the league... we sure are good enough to at least compete with them.

If DC doesn't have an abortion on the goal line at the end of the 1st half, we go into halftime tied... and if we can ever put together a defense that can make a stop in the 4th quarter, we get the ball back only down a score.... If nothing else, this team will be worth watching in December... something we haven't been able to say in a long, long time. No shame in how we lost today. Talk to any Charger fan, and they'll admit this is a completely different Raider team.

That said... here are the negatives:

Lack of Diversity in Play Calls
I really like that Kiffin came out throwing and I really like that Kiffin gave DC the opportunity to put the team on his shoulders and take it to the Charger secondary... but what the fuck with all the quick dump offs? What about trying to stretch the defense like we did with Curry on that sweet play right at the end of the 1st half?

Maybe we don't have the horses at WR... maybe DC is too dumb to get that part of the playbook... but this needs to be addressed. We passed on the best player in football (APeterson :D) to take a QB from LSU who can supposedly throw the hell out of a football... well I sure hope we incorporate some deep stuff.... otherwise, why the hell did we take him?

DC
Sorry bro... but as much as I thought you could regain your form from your glory days... I WAS FREAKIN' WRONG. :o

Sure you still have the legs to outrun a lineman when you have a running start... but you sure as hell don't have the quickness anymore to buy time in the pocket... thus exposing a most unforgiving weakness.... DC you must be stupid as a fucking rock. How the fuck do you take the sacks you take? Or the fumbles you create? What took place at the end of the 1st half was the most ridiculous display of unintelligent QBing that I have eva seen. That was a joke.

Clearly our 2 veteran QB pickups of the offseason bring nothing to the table... and at this point, we have absolutely no reason to even play either of them. It's a shame Russell's agents smashed whateva chance he had of playing this year with that jackass holdout... That said, I say it's Walter time. At the very worst, Walter can be a solid backup for this team... why not put him in now and see what he can do in a run-first offense? Would seem to make sense if we can groom him to be a future option for this team if Russell turns into a bust (since neither of the other 2 QBs are worth the time)...

Run Defense
I think we all knew going into this season that this was going to be the achilles of our defense... and from what I saw today, it's not as much on Ryan as it is on the lack of talent out there. We don't have a single interior lineman that's worth a damn against the run. Kelly got bent over like a virgin on prom night everytime he was in the middle on a running play. Sapp... you're done... enjoy retirement bud. Sands should pay his signing bonus back to the Raiders... he doesn't deserve a penny of it... It should tell you something when a cast off like Warren becomes our best interior lineman over night. We haven't fielded a half way decent fun defense since we released Ted Washington... and until we get somebody of his size and ability in the middle, we are going to foreva be LT's bitch...

as bad as DC looked... it wasn't Aaron Brooks bad... that is all.

The loss alone would be acceptable, the problem is the way it happened. It was like a disection of the Raiders. Our most intimate organs ended up exposed in the dirt. 10 points exposed:

1.- We can't stop the run at all. Everybody in the NFL must know it by now. Very bad thing.
2.- Our safeties are a phreakin joke, always late, no sense of anticipation at all. Guys, give up on Huff if you're really objective.
3.- Almost no pass rush or pressure to the QB.
4.- We can't contain the pass rush. DC was always runnin for his life
5.- Moreover, we can't protect the QB in normal plays.
6.- Our QBs won't make it. DC and McClown are Dumb and Dumber.
7.- Kiffin is stubborn, but must not force players to go when they're not ready. Clear examples of this is McClown in his last start, and Jordan against SD.
8.- We need something special from special teams.
9.- What the hell is Rob Ryan doing? He seems to be making a lot of bad calls, like that last Tomlinson TD; a run blitz very embarrassing.
10.- Game plans and playcalling have a looong way to go to get better. Sunday at SD seemed like Art Shell was still coaching. The Raiders looked very 2006. We can beat winless Miami, but don't take for granted victories against Houston and Tennesse.

as bad as DC looked... it wasn't Aaron Brooks bad... that is all.

Quite the contrary. That was vintage Brooks IMO. Fumbled balls, bad clock management, missed throws, and the brain fart before the end of the half. So much for the dilemna of re-signing him next season. :shakehead:

I don't think it's all that bad... I mean, no surprises.

Kiffin's fine.

QB is a knucklehead, if he wasn't we go into the half tied up getting the ball back at the start of the 3rd quarter... instead we go from first and goal at the one to getting nothing. That's deflating.

Still can't stop the run... no surprise there.

D can't stone an offense when we need it at the end of a game... nothing's changed there.

We need more talent.

We need a competent QB who won't take rediculous sacks, and turn the ball over, and stifle drives with fumbled snaps. You just can't beat teams in the NFL doing those sorts of thing... certainly not the good teams, and we don't have the talent on the rest of the roster to make up for it.

We're headed in the right dirtection, but we went on the road and met up with a quality team that exploited our keystone-cops QB play and soft defense.

Wish we could play the likes of Miami every week.

That said, and as hard as it is to pick out of our reaccuring miseries, we were still in that game in the 4th quarter after playing gawd awfull on both sides of the ball. That's an improvment from last season. Last season we would have gotten 40+ points layed on us and never put up a fight from the first quarter on.

Rob Ryan is choking this year after all his HC hype. His game planning is terrible. They ran all over us.

Stu
is a fucking joke of a safety. Watch the replay of the last LT score. He is 15 yards off the line bumping into a official looking lost as LT breaks through another shitty tackle from Fabian Washington , they both blew a chance to get us the ball back.

Daunte's Inferno
wow did he burn everyone today. You know how many FF owners are like WTF! Kinda funny in a sad way. We bashed McCown so lets not give Pepp a pass. He had all the time in the world to throw that ugly pick on the first drive. Brought LT right back out on our D He also cant hold a ball to save his life. Everytime he drops back im thinking fumble. Horrible plays back to back getting sacked at the end of the first half. The call's werent bad, the execution was. Pepp or any vet Qb should know to throw both those balls away early if the play isnt open. Not take a sack. Thats what redshirt freshman QB's from CAL do, not Veterans in the NFL. That has nothing to do with his knee. That cost us 3 points.
Fumbles, interceptions and poor accuracy/mobility/choices... hope it was just a really bad game...

Michael Huff was solid in coverage of Gates. He was a split second late on a great ball to Gates that he gave up that play on. Almost a pick six... He did break up a TD pass to Gates and cover him very well (3 catches - 58 yards 0 TD's) he also had 7 tackles. I dont know what people expect form him. He seems to be getting better and making decent plays? He gets beaten occasionally but i dont see why people are so hard on him? How many safety's blanket Gates. This isnt the first time he has done it. I guess everyone forgets Dorsett and Gibby getting whored every week by TE's.

Thomas Howard and Routt
played very well for the most part. Kirk was a bit of a non-factor on some big runs...

Kiffin should not of gotten cute, and he should have pounded the ball and called the TO. I dont like the call, but it wasnt a bad call. San Diego is hard to run the ball on with a hurt LJ and little guys like Fargas and Rhodes.

Gallery needs to quit with the fucking penalties. He got beaten bad on the hold.

Penalties killed us

ST blows ass, no big plays

Curry is still the man even though he dropped a crucial first down. Mike Williams had a very nice game.

D-Line had 0 sacks, since we usually only rush 4 the whole team had 0 sacks There was pressure but not getting it done is what it is.

We have a favorable schedule coming up and we need to play way smarter and bring way more intensity and focus.

This is what I don't get, Tron.

The guy was the key missed tackle on two of LT's TD runs, and had at least 3-4 missed tackles in the game.

Sure he almost had a pick six, but the fact of the matter was that the play ended up being a 20+ yard completion due to his gamble.

Color me underwhelmed overall, because the dude is a key contributor on one of the worst run stopping teams in the league.

I wouldnt mind a complete safety overhaul this offseason.

Antonio Gates was nearly silent. That was strange, but LT tore us up from the floor up. No doubt. Our INT for a huge TD to get us back into the game was a bright ray of light. We need to stop teams from getting to DC and he needs more protection to be effective. DC was not on his game at all today. He looked shaken to me. I lost faith in his ability today. I am officially done with my DC jihad. Just being honest. To be perfectly honest, I am confused with the QB situation. For this, we may as well just throw Jmar in and let him take his licks. WE have to get his feet wet some time and at least he can scramble. Nuff said.

I must ask another question? Why was Lamont Jordan playing today? 2 weeks ago he was in such severe pain, but they rushed him back. I knew this was going to happen, but why didn't we just throw Rhodes and Fargas out there and let Lamont rest another week? It kind of irks me knowing he's playing hurt. I had a hunch Kiffin had him listed as doubtful as a smoke screen.

Even though we lost 28-14, we were in this game. We just couldn't seem to generate any points. I cannot for the life of me understand how Kiffin could not call a running play on 1st and goal inside the 1. Cmon! A passing play and the sack killed us and then we turned the ball over leaving points on the field.

And what was with the screwed up Lechler punt that gave San Diego terrific field position? Who's fault was that? Was it a screw up or a scripted 4th down play. I can't believe it was scripted, but maybe it was. Foolish if it was. It should have been kicked away.

Byron somehow swiped the post off my screen...

I thoughty going in that there was an obvious disparity in talent, but more important we were catching them after they had momentum and we just don't matchup well with the Bolt's.... You're not going to be able to pound the ball on Olshansky, Williams and Castillo consistently unless you get them tired and keep thenm off balance... A Gannon led no huddle offense could do that, an offense just getting their feet wet can't... The game actually was a lot closer than I envisioned it might be...We needed to play a mistake free game and have them beat themselves somewhat...

Offensively, aside from the obvious QB play, we're lacking a RB that can make the initial tackler miss and break a couple of tackles out there... That guy may be on the roster already if Michael Bush plays to his pre-injury ablities...

We could also use a receiver with some 0-60 giddy-up.... Not currently on the roster... Will be addressed in the offseason, but maybe an inseason trade for a Devery Henderson or Ashley Lelie who both have fallen out of favor with their respective teams?...

Defensively, we're lacking coaching imagination, a run stopper (Albert Haynesworth maybe?), a pass rusher (we're screwed) and a safety that can make plays (Gibril Wilson maybe?)...

I don't think this loss is the end of the world... We hung tight when we could have folded ala Denver when we got down 14-0... It could have easily been a blowout there... That we can point to a few plays here and there that were the difference in the game is something positive to build on... I actually think we're in good shape as far as matchup's go over the next two months and expect us to go on a bit of a run...

JMO anyways...

If we are counting on Huff to make a 1 on 1 tackle on LT on the goal line were fucked. He made a nice play forcing LT into the air, nobody backed him up. What safety makes that tackle alone on LT he is all world? Thats not on Huff. He could of made the tackle but he at least forced LT into the air and nobody layed a hit on him. Ray Lewis would have eaten LT up right there.

Besides, he is a cover safety obviously, thats how he blankets the Tony Gates, D.Graham's, and Gates of the world. That is very valuable. He was split out wide on Gates alot too. He broke up a TD pass and almost made a huge pick. He only gave Gates 3 for 58 and no TD's!

Its not his fault our run D is weak. Our D-Lineman and LB's are suppose to be tackling RB's! People always say when your safety has alot of tackles it a bad thing. Huff had 7. Fabian and Stu blew the last TD run. Kelly and Stu were burned on the fake FB dive toss left play. Brayton and Stu were burned on the other long run up the gut. If Kirk laid a hit on LT as he jumped over a pretty high tackling Huff than we wouldnt be bringing him up. Again is Huff the only guy who can put a helmet near LT on that play?

So ill give you 1 Huff whiff on a 1 on 1 LT tackle for a TD. If you give me a 7 tackles and a Gates lockdown. is that fair?

I thought it was a good playcall... You try and catch them selling out against the run ... You run the ball there and they stop it like they stopped us on 2nd and 3rd and goal in the 2nd half, then you have to call your last timeout and the next playcall HAS to be a pass which limits your playcalling and leaves you without a timeout in case of a sack or muffed snap... That was completely on Daunte... If his primary was not open after the playfake, he should have thrown the ball into the stands... Worst case scenario should have been 2nd and goal from the 1, with a timeout remaining and with the option to run or pass on 2nd down... Just poor, poor QB IQ... A damn rookie mistake...

Not long before that, after the two minute warning, the Raiders ran a play and then DC called a time out because they were not ready. That time out was absolutely necessary later that drive.

On the call on where DC was captured behind the LOS, the call shouldva been a quick pass or incomplete. Any play with any kinda of developement can end up in a sack. Quick pass or outabounds. Two seconds at the most. DC did a stupid thing. He was given the chance to do it.

QB's-McCown has no talent and C-Pepp is as I expected too slow to run a WCO. If we are basing this on talent, easily keep C-Pepp in until the season looks bleak. If we just want a system guy who'll fail while looking playing the way kiff wants, I guess McCown gets the start.

But truly this also reinforces the fact that I still thought the guy who played best in our preseason was Walter. The season aint over, and Kiff has a stubborn rule about not bailing on his qb's. So Walter wont see the light of day.

RB-Lamont had a big hand in this loss by playing at a uselessly slower speed than he already is. Kiff shoulders partial blame for giving his bum legged ass so many carries. Fargas woulda made a better difference along with Rhodes. We needed our running game, worst time to hand it over to a crippled Jordan.

Michael Bush should get his shot after next week when he becomes available. They wanted him healthy. He got Healthy. They said he wasn't in game shape. Now he is. What else does he need to do?. The bone's not gonna heal any more than it has.

WR-Guys played ok. Wasnt out of this world, but Mike williams put together a much better performance. Also JP is never going to be a #1 WR. We're gonna need a dominant guy next year. A great route running athletic phenom.

TE-Finally we gave Zach Miller a task that was beyond him. Just too much steroids on the other side of the ball to block. Otherwise he never let it bother him and played 100 percent from start to finish.

OL-Its sad that you blocked better than last year, and still got murdered. In fairness to you, your qb was killing you.

DL-you guys need Gerard Warren. Which is kinda fucked up. Sands will never emerge into a consistent weapon. Just not enough stamina. On the ends we played much better with burgess in. Also Jay richardson was a factor in the times we did slow down LT.

LB-You guys defined inconsistency. Though honestly our offense dicked the defense in the ass all day. Then at the end of the day we asked a beat up version of the defense to hold against LT the Raider Killing Shyt Talker.

Secondary-Alot of effort, no turnovers. The pressure of no turnovers had us jumping passes, missing, then giving up bigger plays. As much as people bitch about it. The bend but dont break defense might be best for this year until we upgrade the personnel.

Coaching-average, but ballsy. Hard to say whether you called a winnable strategy with Cullpepper getting sacked when he didnt fumble.

Positives or not. I refuse to be satisfied with this performance overall. I expect wins when i see us take the field. And the fact that we had every chance to take this game doesnt help.

What upsets me the most is allowing Tomlinson to have field-day after field-day against us. How is it that everyone one in this forum, and even the casual observer can plainly see that they're going to run LT on almost every play but our defense can't figure it out? Why the fuk can't we just commit more guys to stopping him? Is he just so much better than any other back that it doesn't matter what scheme we put together? I think not. Put 8 in the god damn box and stop the guy. All week the message was clear - stop LT and make Rivers beat us. I just can't believe how bad we played today, and Rob Ryan should get just as much of the blame.

I'm not ok with this defense at all. Sapp is useless vs. the run and so is Burgess. Terdell hasn't even suited up this season yet and we get little or no safety help in run support. I don't care who it is, allowing any running back to gain 200 yards and 4 touchdowns is unexcusable. That really f-ing pisses me off and we better have a different game plan next time we face these assholes.

Look at that last drive. The Raiders committed 8 guys every play, but Tomlinson did whatever he wanted to against us.

I don't understand how it happens. We always have one guy free who needs to make a tackle on him, and LT always makes that guy miss.

Why the fuk can't we just commit more guys to stopping him?

Problem is we're overcommitting ourselves to stop him... Look back at his 2nd TD run on the highlight shows, and you'll see why. The play is going left... our ENTIRE defense goes left (lineman, backers, safeties)... LT cuts it back... touchdown... untouched.

We're just not disciplined against the run... Remember the infamous "gap control" from the Bresnahass days... same problem here. Though I'm not convinced it's entirely the coaching... In my opinion, our back 7 is overpursuing to compensate for a brutally ineffective front 4. This wasn't a problem when we had a guy like Ted Washington eating up 2 lineman on every play. What a difference he made.

Bottom line... we don't have the talent up front to match up against RBs who make a living on cutback runs...

First and goal at the one = run.

I don't give a fuck how you justify it after the fact. You're an asshole if you don't run the fucking ball. You get stopped? Call your timeout and throw on second and third if you need to... but run the fucking ball on first and goal at the one yard line. It makes me fucking sick to see us repeatedly go elsewhere. At this point, anyone checking film on us in that situation is going to say "don't play the run" because we NEVER FUCKING DO IT!

Duante Culpepper looked like shit today. Fuck that jihad and the horse it rode in on. I'll support Pep for as long as he starts for Oakland but I wasn't halfway through the fucking 3rd quarter before I found myself wondering what Josh McKown could do. Both of Pep's interceptions were bullshit "where the fuck are you throwing it" kind of deals.

Our defense needs to put last year's press clippings away and start playing fucking football because they've been soft all fucking season long. No fucking pressure and not even giving a hint that we're interested in stopping the run is a sure fire way to lose games.

I said in the week before the game that I thought that we'd so far shown as a mediocre team but I'd hoped that this weekend (with two weeks to prepare, mind you) would make a believer out of me.... alas, it was not to be. We're a mediocre team and that's that and our record reflects it.

FUCK!
