Rupert - I agree, but we don't know if Porter continues to "earn" his stay in the doghouse or not? My guess is that he's all attitude, all the time. Could be wrong though..

Porter loses a year in which he's fast approaching 30, and the Raiders have to trot Whitted out there as the 2...
I'd be surprised if Porter sees the field this year at this point... It would be nice if he would just from the perspective that it would aid the development of Andrew Walter as a QB by giving him a big target...
Unless for whatever reason there is a coaching change next year, I'd guess Porter is about done as a Raider... I just don't see him around should either Art or Freddy B still be on staff...
If only we could go back in time and sign Joe Jurivicious instead of resigning Porter as a certain amazingly handsome guy from Hawaii once suggested...

It looks like the Jerry Porter affair has been put to rest.
According to a source who has seen every practice this week, Porter will not only be active but should start Sunday opposite Randy Moss when the Raiders host the Pittsburgh Steelers at McAfee Coliseum.
Porter, I was told, has been running with the first team since his arrival Thursday after a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
When asked about Porter’s status on Thursday, Shell was essentially mum on the subject, nodding when asked if the wide receiver had worked with the scout team and adding,“He worked some with the regular group.'’
Asked if he had a “clear the air chat'’ with Porter, Shell said, “That is as far as I am going to go on that subject. I will talk about my team, period, but I won’t dwell on one individual.'’
Porter’s appearance in the open locker room session Thursday was equally evasive. He appeared in the locker room with a broad smile, then as reporters approached, bolted to the locker of Barry Sims as if he was answering a ringing cell phone in Sims’ locker.
He complimented a television reporter on his wardrobe, saying, “Hey, nice shirt. I got one that’s burgandy and blue like that.'’
Then when a cameraman approached with the red light flashing, Porter said, “Please, go away,'’ and left the locker room.
Putting Porter back on the field would go a long way toward repairing a potential split in the Raiders locker room.
Judging from conversations with several players over the past few weeks, the Porter issue has been divided into two sides _ offense vs. defense.
Defensive players, including Warren Sapp and Jarrod Cooper on the record, have been critical of the punishment Porter received and want him on the field.
It’s hard to blame them, considering Porter has caught 140 passes for 1,940 yards and 14 touchdowns over the past two seasons and the Raiders have yet to score more than 22 points in a game.
Offensive players, however, have to deal with the moody receiver in meetings and on a down-by-down basis, and more than a few have rolled their eyes at his behavior.
It’s been a no-win situation from the Raiders since it began shortly after Shell was hired. As the story goes, Porter was confronted about his plans to train separately from the team and a shouting match ensued with Shell.
Porter missed some training camp time with a calf injury, wore a middle-finger T-shirt each day along with a frown, and found himself on the inactive list for the first four games of the season.
Before the Raiders left for Denver, Porter received a four-week suspension. It was reduced to two weeks in a settlement betweeen the management council and the NFL Player’s Association _ an addition to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Raiders had no say in whether Porter was reinstated not, but it is entirely up to Shell as to whether Porter is one of Oakland’s active players on Sunday.
While the Porter freeze-out has been attributed to Al Davis in some circles, this appears to be a move by Shell. Wide receiver Tim Brown, in an KNBR interview a few weeks ago, agreed with that assessment and believed both men were simply too “bullheaded'’ to meet and compromise.
It’s unclear at this point if either man made the first move. Or if Shell simply realized he needed another offensive weapon.
Although rumors have persisted regarding a trade, either cutting or dealing Porter to another team would put the Raiders into a bind with regard to the 2007 salary cap.
Porter has a $6.45 million acceleration figure, meaning that money would be applied to the 2007 cap if he were released or traded. During training camp, Al Davis said during a training camp press conference that Porter and his agent were free to seek his own deal so long as he returned $4 million in bonus money.
That money, besides going into the Raiders’ pocket, would also reduce the 2007 cap hit by that amount.
“It never should have taken this long,'’ one source said. “This was something personal between two men that shouldn’t have affected the team.'’

Well this ought to be ineresting.
Porter seems from that artcle to be pretty happy about getting back on the field. I have to agree that this got carried way too far. I'm not sure who's job it is to extend the olive branch and at this point I guess it does't really matter. If Porter makes the team better than all will be forgiven. If he screws up we'll probably have to buy more band width around here.
