Some interesting takes from PFW...........

PFW said:
A couple of NFL scouts were somewhat baffled by the Raiders’ decision to sign former Colts RB Dominic Rhodes in free agency without first addressing an offensive line with plenty of holes. “LaMont Jordan had nowhere to go last year,” the scout told PFW. “Nowhere. ... You have to fix what’s wrong up front first. You have to. I don’t care if you have LaDainian Tomlinson back there, it’s not going to make a difference. (The line) got beat every which way last year, and you’ve got to improve that situation because Jordan is a solid, solid back, and they’re wasting him.”

Some NFL insiders surprisingly view the hardworking Ronald Curry as the best offensive threat on a Raiders team stocked with talent at the skill positions, mainly because of his desire, athleticism and knowledge of the game.

Word out of Oakland is that an extra big body at defensive tackle could be as big of a draft need as a defensive end to pair opposite Derrick Burgess. Oakland re-signed Terdell Sands and has versatile Tommy Kelly in a rotation, as well, but it wants to begin planning for life after Warren Sapp.

We’re told the Buccaneers covet WR Calvin Johnson and will trade up to land him, if necessary. Sources tell us the Buccaneers have an extra second-round pick — acquired from Indianapolis in the Anthony McFarland trade last season — that they would be willing to deal and, with a surplus of quarterbacks, Chris Simms or Jake Plummer could be available.

A couple NFL scouts I don't trust from the looks of it. Not to say curry isn't due for a big year or thast Jordan did have help. But I think both ideas were a little extreme. But the infamous random nameless couple of NFL scouts will prevail in the end I'm sure and be trusted to please us all on our worries about Jordan as a starter.

I can't disagree too much with what the "unnamed scouts" had to say though. While I disagree with the notion that Rhodes' signing makes no sense, they're right in saying that our offensive line sucked last year and, if the line plays that way again this year, it won't matter who is running. On the flip side, I don't think that they're taking into account the fact that we've hired Tom Cable and have been implementing the infamous "stretch and cut" system, which traditionally doesn't require you to have All-Pros across the line.

It's good to see Ron Curry getting some love because you just can't help but root for the guy. He's had a tough road and he's never quit and never complained. He just went out and overcame his obstacles. You've gotta respect that.

As for the DT note, I'm glad that we're not the only ones who see it.

All I have to say about that is:

These scouts need to consider the possibility that the line and Jordan sucked.

Ron Curry is easily our best offensive weapon. No arguments there.

As for the line: Coaching, coaching, coaching.

Jordan? He's a vagina.

Rhodes was a good pickup...Lamont is coming off of a Knee injury for christ sakes and Huggy Bear is still Huggy Bear.

Yeah, I don't see why some people -- even scouts for other teams! -- think you have to act on a certain timeline. It's not like signing Rhodes prevents the Raiders from signing a lineman.

Sure... but if you're going to roll the dice on a borderline FA RB, it would have made more sense to also roll the dice on some borderline FA OLineman...

Yeah, if we could pay them like borderline FA linemen.

But there was bad FA linemen, not even borderline FA linemen, like Langston getting $5 million per year deals.

The Raiders got good value on all the players they signed, and in a bad year for FA O-linemen, average players got paid like All-Pros.

It would have been nice if there had been stud tackles for us to sign out there, but there weren't. The best was Leonard Davis, and he got waaay too much money, and Dallas might wind up making him a guard.

Timmerman is still out there
Carlisle is still out there
Montrae Holland, Ross Verba, Chris Villariel, Mike Rosenthal, Kyle Turley, Kenyatta Walker

lots of meh FAs still out there. we could pick up one or more before the draft... and after the draft will be a schmorgasbord of more crap and overpriced FAs.
