Anyone else heard this?

Over on KFFBill Tex posted that the Texans sent him packing...

What a flameout that dude's been.

I thought he was cut some time ago. At least somebody told me that. Doesn't really surprise me much.

Got to admit when we drafted him I thought Al pulled off a coup. Hey didn't work out.

Hey, anyone rememeber who we picked with that 2 and 3 from Pbuch?

Did we include those in yet another deal, like with the jets/Jolly?

I wanna think Routt was the 2nd rounder...maybe Walter...

I wanna say we turned it into Morrison, but I'm not sure....

Texans release Buchanon

The Texans announced Monday that cornerback Phillip Buchanon has been released.

The fifth-year cornerback from Miami was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders prior to the 2005 NFL Draft in exchange for a second- and third-round pick.
“Phillip did everything we asked him to do from day one,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “When Petey Faggins went down, Phillip had the opportunity to become a starting cornerback. Unfortunately, he got hurt and missed most of training camp. Then he got hurt in the first game. He had trouble staying on the field. But we wish him well.”

Buchanon, who entered the league as a first-round pick (17 th overall) with the Raiders, started six games with the Texans in 2005.

Faggins’ pending return from a broken foot, which occurred early in training camp, will help the Texans compensate for Buchanon’s departure.

The move also creates a roster spot that the Texans can use for strongside linebacker Kailee Wong, who has been on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list because of a knee injury he suffered at Seattle on Oct. 16, 2005. Kubiak said Monday that he expects Faggins and Wong to return to practice full speed on Wednesday.

Buchanon returned punts and filled in at cornerback yesterday at Dallas when Dunta Robinson left the game because of cramps. Buchanon totaled 43 yards on two returns.

As Nelson Muntz might say "HA-HA"

Maybe we can resign him and trade him again for a 2nd and 3rd rounder. LOL.

And to think, we picked him ahead of Ed Reed

Thanks for the kick to the nut sack Turk.

In all honesty, I think PBuch looked good as a rookie (a few games) until he got hurt. After that he was trash ... seemed like he never played at that high level again.

And he is a bonehead ...

He was a sissy, I remember a play when he was with Houston last year when some other teams RB was running into the end zone on and he moved out of the way instead of tackling the guy.....the coach yanked him out and started screaming at him......WOW that was funny....I knew then we got what we could have out of him in that trade....

Reunited cause it feels so gooood... Reunited cause you understoood...

BUCHANON SIGNS WITH BUCS

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed cornerback Phillip Buchanon to a one-year contract, at a prorated base salary of $585,000.

Buchanon was released by the Texans on Monday. And the Texans actually did him a big favor by making the move when it did.

If the Texans had waited until Wednesday, Buchanon would have been required to pass through waivers. As it stands, Buchanon became a free agent.

Under NFL rules, players with less than four credited seasons always pass through waivers whenever they are cut, with the worst team to the best team getting a shot to claim him. Prior to the trading deadline, vested veterans instantly become free agents. After the trading deadline, however, all players regardless of tenure must go through waivers.

In Buchanon's case, someone like the Packers might have taken a chance on him. His full base salary was only $800,000, and with six weeks in the books the balance would have been only $517,650.

So Buchanon instead will earn $378,529 from the Bucs along with the balance of his $800,000 salary from the Texans, since he is now entitled (as a vested veteran) to receive termination pay.

The end result? His total 2006 income increased in one day by more than $375,000, assuming he finishes the season with Tampa.

It's baffling, in our view, that the Texans wouldn't have waited until Wednesday to cut him loose, in the hopes that someone would pick up his contract -- and allow the Texans to get off the hook for more than $500,000 in unpaid wages.

We're also told that the Texans tried to trade Buchanon before cutting him, but found no takers.

Buchanon was a first-round draft choice in 2002 out of the "M", and he was traded to Houston in 2005 for a second-round and third-round draft pick in 2006. Bucs G.M. Bruce Allen was in that same role with the Raiders when Buchanon was drafted.

That didn't bother me at all.

Picking Nap Harris ahead of Ed Reed, though, really irked me at the time. And has only continued to do so.

"Oh death where is thy sting?"

I think he was signed primarily to shore up their return game initially.

I don't understand how 'Showtime' ever got any love at all...

For every INT he made, or return he had, he gave up at least 3 routine catches and couldnt tackle after the catch. He took too many risks, and got burned more times than any corner I've seen in the last 5 years...

The guy was full of him self, and was a mediocre cover corner on a good day.

The only reason he ever got any INT's is because he played alongside guys like Charles Woodson, Tory James, Eric Allen, and Rod Woodson.

We should have drafted Ed Reed... :(

Yeah, that was ugly. I think he got scorched for eight touchdowns or so that night. Couldn't feel too bad about it though, Brett was on a mission and was playing for his recently departed father, as I recall. There was just not going to be any stopping the guy that night.. although P-toast didn't do much to impede the bomb-parade.
