Pairing it down... now who do you want?

Who do you want as HC?

I really want to see McDaniels brought in. I have no idea if he has any interest in the job or if he has the character to be HC.

That said I would look at Ryan as HC with Martindale as DC and I guess we are looking at Trestman for OC. I think this should be an improvement on last season. If the whole team responds to Ryan the way the defense has then we should be competitive. Trestman has been succesful although that was with a lot more talent than he will have this time round. We also need to sort out the Oline coaching, but I don't have any suggestions on who would be the right choice.

If Ryan is coach Trestman doesn't make much sense to me. He was an ok choice if Sark was the man cause Sark would be calling the plays and running an offense of his design. Trestman would have been there for his experience and guidance. With Ryan we might as well just give a guy like Ken Zampese a shot at being an OC.

There will be no further updates.

My sources just don't understand how bad it really is in Oakland.

Check is in the mail. :o

It's gotta be Rob Ryan.

Ther is no other choice...He's the only guy I see taking this job and having the respect of the people around him.

We're fucked.

At the very least Rob Ryan is going to feel like the back-up choice if he takes the job, so already that's even a little tainted. Playing second-fiddle to some snot-nosed college assistant isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Be that as it may, he could use it as motivation to try harder or cop an attitude about the whole process so I'm not so sure that Ryan is going to accept, even if Al targets him at this point.

When Gruden took off, it stung. That was painful.
When Callahan drove the franchise into oblivion it was hard to watch.
When everyone said thanks but no thanks and Turner took over it was a joke.
When Whisenhunt left without an offer, never to return that really took it out of me. I thought he had it.
Now Sarkisian and every other qualified shmuck out there is avoiding us we've got the plague.

How much fucking evidence does Al need that things need to change? I'm going to go David Blaine pretty soon.

Last week everyone was saying that Sark was a puss because Kiffin called the plays in the box. This week everyone is pissed because NoSark bailed out and took his playpal Kiffin with him. Some people really are funny.

Good I say. Let the fugger walk. The dude IMO still needed time in the bottle... in wine speek.

Let's get a good, stable well known dude in here who the players will FOLLOW. In retrospect anyone think this team wasn't going to chomp spit out that 30 year old noSak within a week...?

and who the hell is this McDaniels dude anyway.... oh another kid.

People, listen up, this is a fuggin undisciplined, spoiled, bratty Raider team. You guys,.... and girls know that shit. The players need someone who has a proven past and who knows HOW to lead.

Like Garth said.... "some of Gods greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."

I'm glad Sark left... didn't want him anyway.

My money is on Ryan.

I continue to believe Al is looking for an offensive guy for HC. If not, Rob Ryan should get the gig.

Of the offensive guys listed, I think the following are not in the picture:

Tedford (just signed a 5 year extension at Cal)
Bill Walsh (battling his own personal illness)
Pete Carroll (aready turned down Miami to stay at USC), and
Mike Martz (been previously reported that the Raiders are not interested)

That leaves:
McDaniels
Green
Fassell(other)
And this unidentified college coach who Al has been unable to reach(other)

Who could this last guy be anyway (read about it for the second time in a week)? And why wouldn't Al have been able to reach him? Is there some high profile college coach who has been on an African Safari or something?

I had heard it was Mike Leach, but there's nothing to substantiate it...

I can still see that swarmy Jim Fassell peaking around the corner waiting to pounce...

Unless Al makes a serious over the top $$$ offer to McDaniels, I just don't see him leaving a situation where he he's working with the best coach/QB/owner in the NFL, not when he can wait another year and cherry pick the Bolt, Cowboy and whatever other jobs open up...

Bring on Rob Ryan I guess, and pray like hell that Al doesn't forcefeed a 70's offense down his throat... Hopefully Ryan can tap into his old Pats resources and lure the WR coach or ballboy or something to run the offense...

Sorry, I just don't have any confidence in Al getting things turned around... It's like we're walking around with a load in our pants with the way young coaches are avoiding this job for one reason or another...

FWIW - Today on Clayton's Sports Saturday show he said he received a call from Sark's "people" right before this went down and that Sark WAS offered the job and that he DID turn it down. He also said Kiffin was offered the OC job and turned it down. Just sayin' that is from the Guru of the NFlL -- John "Goofy" Clayton.

I also heard that this morning. Looks like Al really tried to nickel and dime him because from all indications, it was basically Sark's job. Same old same old. We can kiss good bye any notion of luring high priced FA's here. Who the fugg would want to play in Oakland?

We suck.

Who will accept the job?

I don't Believe a word........Someone tell me why Sark is beating everyones ear about wanting the job and then we offer it to him and he turns it down.
Maybe the truth is Sark wanted Kiffen and Al didn't like him? So Sark decided not to keep in the running.

I picked Ryan from the start. I would like to see some young guns come in here, and Sark had me fired up with the way he was talkin to the media. So now I say fuck him....
Bring me Mcdaniels and Ryan or for that matter Fassel and Ryan and Hell make Ryan head coach & defensive coordinator......

Ha... and this is the same Clayton who said the Raiders had offered Lofton the job earlier this week... Maybe I'll call Clayton and inform him I turned down the Raiders job as well. That 's pretty much my last shot of ever getting on ESPN anyways.

That pretty much ices what I suspected all along. Sarkisian never had an interest in the Raiders job from day one. He pretty much used this media circus to play himself up and land a deal next year. What would marketing guys like Sarkisian do without clueless idiots like Clayton, Cockroach, and McDonald's.

Sark either lied to the press/world when he went on record and said he did not receive an offer or he lied to Clayton when he said he did. Go figure. Maybe it depends on what the word "offer" means.

Doesn't matter, I guess, since its the same result. He's not coming to Oakland. But it may have an impact on people's perceptions of the Raiders, and this is where I might want to open up my communications a bit with the media if I were Davis to better control the fall out from the reporting of these decisions.

I personally believe AL overwhelmed Sark a little. He was about to go from a cake job at USC to a high pressure situtaion. A coach trying to get a job for the Raiders already has to put up with alot going into it. The media bashing us, recent failure, Al's meddling are all things a coach has to deal with. Now add the fact that we had one of the worst offensive teams ever and this guy is a OC. We have the #1 overall pick with no clear cut #1 talent, and he wasnt going to make much more money. the guiy is 32 years old. He knows an easier job is right around the corner. Besides he prolly likes being in the college atmosphere he is only 32. Still young and powerful enough to pull sweet SC poon. I think this guy was scared he would fail really bad and hurt his career. I dont think he was ready, he has hardly any EXP. Lets get the coach who has had success in Oakland and the one who want the job. Rob Ryan.
