Other AFC West Teams discussion

I honestly think that Pete will be here between 3-5 years and groom his successor to take over for him. Who that successor is, is unknown, but that's just the feeling I get.

Can't see over three at the high end. I'll be surprised if it's more than two. Again, he's currently 73. I just hope he puts in enough work to lay down a decent foundation by then for the next guy. I also don't necessarily want him grooming anyone to take over because that never really works. Ironically, Seattle tried to do that with Holmgren, and he got the job after the coach in waiting failed.

He is energetic for his age but it may get to the point we don't want him to be here. Probably 50/50 the team wants him to retire before he wants to. His contract is three years. I hope it goes well and everybody wants to extend him but he is 73 years old.

Franchise hasn't had a coach over three years in 20 years, but people are like the 74 year old guy is going to be here for five years, lol. This is where the Raider fan base delusion comes in. Unless he builds a Super Bowl contender (unlikely), he'll be here three years tops and is just getting this shit pointed in the right direction for the next person. I have him out by the end of two years. I also hope they don't get attached to the staff to find his successor because sometimes an outside person is just what you need to keep building to the next level. Ideally, you want Pete to get us to a wild card team with a good young core for the next guy to take the rest of the way.

73 years old

Look at the image on the left. That is contact that most sixty year olds would not invite.

Carroll will stay here as long as he can do it and has something in the tank that allows him to. My guess is after year two he goes through a serious self-evaluation and talks with a few guys he trusts before making a decision. He probably aged more in his year off than he will this year.

Thing is, at some point the body and mind start to go. My dad is 89 and got his diet so fucked up he spent a week in the hospital with potassium levels damn near deadly. Because he was otherwise in good shape and living a healthy life, he is weathering it. By contrast, Carroll is chill, eats that West Coast diet and looks healthier than I do now.

What I like is that he's a defensive coach whose interest in the O is to build a unit that helps the D by chewing clock and is as punishing as he wants his D to be -- but leaves how to do that to his OC.

That’s nothing. I’m 70, that little jamb ain’t shit.
I’m not as strong as I used to be, but I’m stronger that most my age and probably stronger than a lot of guys 10 years younger.

You know and I know that Pete is only half the man that you are, and you have half the brain that he does.

Good for you, bror. I would and I'm 58 (and don't expect a serious decline in the next eighteen months).

My point was that most sixty year olds would not invite it. If it's in slow motion it's medium hard press. If actually teaching it, that's more than a little violent. My guess is slow motion, but who knows since it's a still.

Define long
I asked you first. So let’s say for the sake of argument that you know Pete won’t get to a second contract and I think he might be gunning for it. Pat Kirwan has said as much on his show.

Pete Carroll left the Seattle Seahawks after 14 seasons as head coach to move into an advisory role, a decision that was mutually agreed upon by the team and Carroll. This change occurred after Seattle's failure to make the playoffs in the 2023 season, a disappointing result for a team that had previously experienced significant success under Carroll's leadership.

Several factors contributed to the Seahawks' decision to shift Carroll's role, including:

    • Declining Performance:
The Seahawks had experienced a decline in their on-field performance, failing to reach the playoffs in the last two seasons.
    • Changing NFL Landscape:
The NFL's emphasis on passing offenses and evolving playbooks made it difficult for Carroll's traditional, run-heavy approach to be effective, according to a Reddit thread.
    • Team's Glory Days:
Carroll became further removed from the team's Super Bowl-winning era, and it seemed less likely that the franchise would return to power under his leadership, according to The Athletic.
    • Offensive Struggles:
The Seahawks' offense struggled to execute Carroll's vision of controlling the line of scrimmage and establishing a strong running game, according to The Athletic.
    • Mutual Agreement:
While Carroll expressed a desire to continue as head coach, the Seahawks ultimately decided it was best for the organization to move forward with a new head coach, according to The Guardian.
Despite the change in role, Carroll remained with the Seahawks as an advisor, allowing him to continue to contribute to the team in a less direct capacity.

.....and you lost me right here...:coffee:
It took 14 years for Pete to sour. Pete reinvented himself and brought in fresh ideas or better OC and DC and RB to reinforce his core beliefs.
