I'm almost getting drafted out.

Watching NFLN right now and it just kind of has gotten circular at this point; everything has already happened, now we're just waiting. Read like five draft magazines front to back. Read local papers online and teams' message boards figuring what other teams might do. Have done mocks. Read about 80,000 mocks.

I'm so ready to just get it on and see what happens.

• My whole life right now is just waiting.

• I don't like the classes I'm in right now per se. I mean they're ok but I can't wait 'til they're over with. In one, I have to read hundreds of pages out of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance just after the draft, according to the syllabus. (I'm gonna do it all before then.)

I can hardly focus on anything right now, it seems...

• Having the No. 1 pick is just so different. And all these rumors. Constantly in my head. It's not like when this team was picking 17th or whatever and you just kind of wait and see by default because you have no idea what's going to transpire beforehand.

• I've thought all along it will be Russell but this gets tougher and tougher to read. Surely it doesn't help the team we root for is the NFL's fortress of secrecy in all facets of the league to BEGIN with, much less with something as epic as this.

• Something tells me that unlike most years, when a day or two before the draft it comes out who the team will take and the contract parameters are roughly sketched out, we won't even know what the hell's going to happen until 15 minutes tick away.

• And even then we'll have Sal Palantonio and others raining on the parade by just making up billions of trade scenarios.

• I wonder which I'm going to watch the draft on? ESPN or NFLN? I think I'll tape both. ESPN actually isn't all that bad until the second round when they just totally check out and stop covering...well, the ongoing draft.

Ummmm...

• Copy editing is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I can get a 4.0 last quarter, already be in the campus paper without actually being in the production course, be selected to pick up and show a video for one class when the teacher's going to be gone, but I get a 12 out of 20 identifying subjects and direct objects of sentences. :(

• Elsewhere, I'm reporting on daily news from South Africa (hopefully that'll work out nicely 'cause my work just hired a dude from there), group projecting on Russian journalists being killed, and spending evenings with 179 other pupils listening to "Values and Technology" lectures from a genius. He is a genius, and the class is fun, but I still have no idea what it's about three weeks in. There's no textbook. We've spent hours looking at and talking about Google Earth, YouTube, MySpace, iTunes, Blade Runner, car pool lanes... it's just wacky. It'd be awesome--well, it kind of already is, I guess, as far as credit opportunities go; one of the first assignments was to write any essay about something we're passionate about, excepting love interests, and I wrote about some little thing called the NFL draft after I froze up--if it didn't get out at 9 at night. And then I drive like 45 minutes home. I think I have it bad, though; talking about commutes the other session, someone said he drives an hour and a half to school everyday because his wife teaches somewhere else. Fuckin' California.

• I just want to get through this so fast right now. I started growing a beard and a stache that aren't coming off 'til the quarter is over. It is reminding me to be patient so far.

And then in July I'm going to Michigan for almost a month to be with loved ones, family, and friends. (Not always all the same thing...) I can't, fucking, wait. Just to try something other than California for change's sake would be cool enough in itself...

• I'm not even requesting off for the draft at work 'cause I know they probably wouldn't give it to me, so I'm gonna call in methinks for the first time in like half a year or so. But don't tell anyone.

• I wasted (well, kinda) my spring break week going to Las Vegas for the first time. Stayed at the Gold Coast. Walked more than anyone ever should. One night we got totally hustled and robbed by a "free limo" scam on the way to a strip club, where things happened that didn't really make me feel too good, either. It was my first time and my homies conveniently told that to the staff without my knowing. But yeah, the limo scam. Dude at the hotel says he can hook us up with a free limo to take us to the nearest strip club. We're like cool. Guy shows up, takes us somewhere we have no idea of. Says to wait inside while he sees if it's 'cool' for us. Hmm, ok. 'Yeah, guys, it's cool for you... have a good time.' He drops us off, bails. We go in. The cover charge is fuckin' 60 dollars. And we're all alone in a shady part of Vegas we don't know. After all the shit went down and we were out hundreds of bucks, he didn't even show up again when we called him, naturally. Kind of funny when you think about it.

• Other than that it was badass. I hooked up with Bayonett from the K, and I'll tell you, that dude is the most hospitable mofo you'll ever meet. He knows how to show you a good time. And his rapper friend he introduced me to is gonna blow up and put Vegas on the map, I hope. That night was truly one of the most fun nights I've had in, well, ever.

• I bet I'm the first person in the history of Vegas to make events out of the Star Trek Experience and where Tupac died in the same evening, but, that's me.

• The Warriors might make the playoffs. That means there is hope to turn this franchise around, surely. Did you hear what I just said? The Warriors are in the playoffs, maybe. The Warriors and the playoffs. I still can't believe it. I guess good things CAN happen.

• The more I see some of these text books talking about music from the '50s and '60s I can't help but download some of it. My playlists right now include The Penguins and The Flamingos. Does shit really change all that much? Listen to Akon right now. Well, his shit like "Don't Matter". It's the same thing.

• Alright I'm going to read some Robert Pirsig and pretend I know WTF the dude is talking about.

• Did I mention I want time to go by? Fast? April showers bring May flowers. Come on draft, get here already.

A great example of why I love going to Red Sox games, and watching them on TV. Jerry Remy is the guy giving the play-by-play on this pizza incident. Funny stuff:

By the way, Dice K Mania--catch it!!!

I am not drafted out. But I really wish I knew which way the Raiders are going after 1.1. I am not confident in my Little Al entry this year.

How about King Felix Hernandez fever. This kid has got some serious pitches. He is my favorite pitcher to watch, i am a Mariners fans tho.

Does anybody on this forum support the Golden State Warriors. They have a huge game tonight and if they win they most likely will be in the playoffs. First time since 1994

Been a fan since they wore the "The City" on their jerseys. Hell I still remember the 75 sweep vs Wash in the finals. Phil Smith, Silk Wilkes, Cliff Ray, Rick Barry (probably the best pure shooter of all time).

They need to stopp fuggin trading away all their talent to other teams.

** I have a strange peace within me thinking the Raiders have no doubt they are taking Russell. And this isn't homerism for an LSU guy, I honestly believe they are going to take Russell.

** It's Round 2 through 7 that I have no idea on. Usually I'm pretty good at locking in players or positions they're targeting (see Li'l Al's of the past). But this year with so many picks anything could happen, including trades up for targeted guys.

** I'm not looking forward to the 3 months of speculation between April 28th and July 27th of why the Raiders shouldn't have taken a boom-or-bust prospect at #1

** Definitely watching the NFLN for draft coverage. Did it last year and didn't have to deal with Berman and Kiper... it was like watching the draft with the tourrette's kid locked in the other room.

** I have a much better vibe about Lane Kiffen in April than I did in January. The dude has moxy.

** The wife and I celebrated our 1st anniversary a couple of weeks back. I don't know what's harder to believe -- that a year has gone by already or that she hasn't killed me yet.

** It just dawned on me the other day that I turn 30 this year. Not sure why, but I find it significant.

** I've been working WAY too much lately. I'm hoping to move to a different department in my company by the end of '07. I love the company I work for but have no control, I need a change of scenery.

** If you haven't seen "Grindhouse" go. Suspend any belief and just go. Trust me.

** We got a lab puppy in February. He's now 17 weeks old and weighs 52lbs. Li'l guy is a miniature bear. But super-smart.

** My wife's grandmother, who is the matriarch of the family without question, is losing her battle with Alzheimer's. Not being a true "member" of the family (i.e. blood), it's weird going through this for the first time. It will be a sad day when this phenomenal lady moves on to another life.

** There nothing quite like playoff hockey, IMO. It's the only time I actually watch the Sharks play. I keep track of them in the standings throughout the year, but I literally don't turn on the TV to watch them until mid-April.

** During our anniversary weekend in which the wife and I were in San Francisco we went to a Giants/Dodgers game. There were more fights in that game than at any Raider game I've EVER been to. And I've been to some dandy Raider games vs. the Chiefs, Broncos, etc.

** I can't seem to get the weather right... I go to work yesterday in jeans and a long-sleeve shirt and by 2pm it's 81 degrees. I go to work today in jeans, harachi's, and a short sleeve short and a friggin' storm comes in. Of course, it'd probably help if I watched the weather report on TV.

** I'm going to Florida (Clearwater) for a "work" conference in May. There's really not much work, we just schmooze clients, everyone gets drunk, someone tries to buy some weed, and then we wash, rinse, and repeat for the next 3 days. However, this year our networking event is at the pool of the resort we're staying at. Beach volleyball teams will be formed and we're "encouraged" to bring our suits for the hot tub. Now granted I'm turning 30 and approaching middle-age, but the last thing I want to see is a bunch of city and county tech employees who are mostly women and 45 and over donning swimsuits. "Room service? Yes, I'd like to get drunk in my room please. As quickly as possible."

Clearwater huh? I may have to give the Nips a call.

My fourth-to-last point.

- This fits in this thread the best:

Earlier tonight I was laying down with my girlfriend before she goes to sleep (she gets up early to go to work). And I said "Only two weeks left". And she said "till the draft gets here". That was a proud moment

My band is having our CD release party April 28th. As a Lifelong Raider fan and Music nut it could be one of the best days of my life. I have double anxiety about now. I just cant wait until sunday im going blaze the best chronic I cant find watch day two while waxing poetic here at my favorite spot. Im gonna look back on this day with fond memories hopefully...

Shameless plug:

I'll add to this, even though mine is damn embarrasing:

My girlfriend did a mock draft last year to make fun of how much time/effort I put into mine online and when I post on other sites...

She grabbed the sporting news draft guide and wrote one up using the needs section and the value board (I gave her all of our picks)

She whooped my ass.

She drilled Thomas Howard in round two, and nailed a couple lineman along the way (Not correct ones, but still)

She's excited to do one this year, and still rubs it in, lol.

The Baltimore magazine guy here totally nailed the Fabian Washinton pick. Im sure he just picked the fastest guy. I read it the morning of the draft.

SoCal actually nailed it in the Little Al that year, if I recall and apparently RF.net had leaked some info that year that Al Davis was targeting that guy after the combine-pro days... (WDR nailed Walter-Morrison apparently too)

All hearsay to be sure, but I remember a couple guys drilling that pick after changing it really early in the morning before the thread was locked...

Yeah well, I hope your power goes off... I'm stuck with ESPN droning on and on about the QB's and Berman giving away the picks before they're announced again...

You may want to look into getting pet insurance while it's still a pup... I got it for my lab and it's been a money saver... My only regret is not getting it earlier before the pre-existing condition hedge could kick in... (www.petinsurance.com)

I'm sure it's because the Giants suck balls and the Dodgers rule... It's the Dodgers year in the NL, I can feel it...

* Now that I have my own thing going and work from home, I waste way too much time on the computer... From stud to nerd in six months...

* I got to see Dice pitch in Japan a few years back... He's definitely stepped up his game since then... I still didn't think he was worth the kind of fuss and money he got, but so far it's looking pretty good for the Bosox... Hate them as well though...

* If any of you ride a motorcycle, please be careful... I lost two old friends to bike accidents over the last month... One motorcross accident, and one on the freeway when a car changed lanes and he was in the guys blindspot... The bodycount over the years is now up to 4 friends deceased, one that will be walking with a cane for the rest of his life and one who was hospitalized for almost 5 months...

* Had some golf clubs cut down for my little girl awhile back... She's got a nice little groove set in muscle memory but has no patience with learning to putt... she just wants to hit everything as hard as she can.... Daddy is not going to be able to retire in a life of luxury if she's three putting birdie chances all the time like her old man...

* This just in: Hockey still sucks... It's soccer on ice without the riots in the stands... Hockey needs to get some 300 pound Samoans on ice to make things interesting...

* I was watching an ESPN special on best all time game dunkers the other night... Mike won with Nique coming in second, Doc 3rd and Vince Carter 4th... Mike was the man, but I would have gone with Vince Carter as the best game dunker followed by Nique... I don't follow the NBA much these days... I think it peaked back when Mike, Bird, Magic, Nique, Barkely, Bernard King etc were all in their primes...

* I've officially arrived... PFT choose one of my emails to publish (http://www.profootballtalk.com/emailswelike.htm)... you can guess which it is... Now I'm really going to have to take even more drastic measures to avoid the paparazzi...

* I've got to give tommygal some credit (gag)... She told me months ago that Trent Edwards would fly up the draftboards... Too bad she doesn't have that kind of foresight when drafting her fantasy football teams...

* The draft and the week prior to our opening game are my favorite time of the year... Only 11 more days!!... Plus my wife and daughter will be off island that weekend... I'm getting me a bucket of Popeye's spicy chicken, some Korean style spicy ribs and a bunch of spicy Ahi sushi, sitting in the pool and vegetating while I watch the draft... I rarely eat fast food, but I love me that Popeye's chicken... Unfortunately my wife frowns on me eating it, but too bad for her... Nobody tells the soon to be 2007 Lil Al champ what to do...

I have just found out that we will not be getting any live coverage of the draft this year. The rights to NFL network programming have changed hands, but the company who now owns them say that the deal has not been finalised and they therefore will not be able to show the draft, but we might get a 2 hour highlight show on Sunday. What a way to start the season, the first season in which an NFL game will be played in this country and for which the ticket demand has been astronomical.

So what is the best way to follow it on the net? Will they be a stream of the tv coverage or is it better just to get a good radio stream? Any help will be most appreciated.

We went to Vegas for a couple of nights over easter weekend. It certainly is a crazy place. It might be that we can gamble anywhere in this country or our natural reserve, but some people were almost running once they got off the plane to start gambling.

My gran turned 98 years old this month and her heath is starting to suffer. She is having a real problem moving about anywhere and we have to make sure that somebody is with her nearly all the time. She still has a pretty sharp mind though and tells some great stories.

The hotel we stayed at in Orange County had a seafood buffet and I tried some sushi for the first time. I didn't think I would like it as I am not keen on fish, but it was pretty good.

All you can eat sushi=not very good

I do give you props for trying it though. Try the uni next time:p

Is that like making love to your significant other and she mumbles...``beige...we'll paint the ceiling beige" as she stares up at the ceiling from her prone position?

*I hope the Warriors do make the playoffs. I'm a Clipper fan, but the way they've played all season has been disgusting, with that game against Sacramento on Sunday as the capper. No heart whatsoever. These guys need to get their heads right. Losing Livingston just killed us. I hope the dude can come back at full strength eventually.

*I'm sick of being a broke college student, but I'm really in no rush to join the "real world" either. Meh.

*I'll be having corrective jaw surgery this summer. Anyone know anyone who had this? Apparently most people wait until their older to get it done (I'm 22), but I figured let's just get it over with. I'll have to eat through a straw for a couple weeks, I guess, and I'm somewhat worried about the amount of weight I could lose. I'm a pretty skinny guy as is.

*On that same note, my dentist was telling me his brother had the same surgery, and concocted a pizza/beer combo which he would blend up and "eat." He went on to tell me that the guy's wife (my dentist's sister-in-law) used to work for the Raiders and organized some function where the players would go meet kids, hang out and do all that. Anyway, one of the players at the time (he didn't know who) ended up getting hurt at said function. He said Al gave the poor lady a verbal lashing for the ages, followed by her immediate termination. I had to laugh at that.

*The Dodgers are WRECKING shit! I love it. If Betemit can't get it going, I wouldn't be opposed to moving Nomar to 3rd and bringing Loney up from the farm to man 1st. It's early, though, and I like Betemit's patience at the plate and defense.

Go Warriors! A win tonight would clinch the first playoff in 13 years. And King Felix is pitching for the Mariners.
