For those who know S&B Executionier I have been receiving periodic updates from him from Iraqi...here is the latest. Anybody who would like to email him let me know I have his email address:

Hello Gang!

Well, I can say that the days are slowly falling off the calender.

Since my last update, alot has happened. Most of which, I cannot discuss at great length for OPSEC reasons. But, it is safe to say that it has been eventful, fast moving and unique. It has been rough month for US forces in general, but in the Western Iraq, we have had some close dealings, so to speak. As for our little det, all has been quiet. The Ramadan holiday slows things down a bit, the Habs (remember thats the town we are closest to) has been pretty docile.

As for things here, we have all been eating well and settling in. Our CF people have moved on and we now are working closely with the active duty Bee's from another Battalion. Our project and it progress is drawing rave reviews from the brass with the Marine Corps and our own skipper. We are getting visits daily from someone who wants to give us the ol BRAVO ZULU for the job well done. We have only started on the job and should see the entire deployment ate up by this.

As for working with the active duty battalion, all I can say is, WOAH!! Is that a messed up operation. It is true what some say, The reserves have the experience and expertice, the active duty folks are well versed in military stuff, but these poor kids have no idea how to swing a hammer or run a trowel. No work ethic, no motivation. But we are squaring them away as we speak and they are blending in well. We just kinda trade skills here and there. The active duty officers? Well, lets just say I haven't seen a decision made yet that hasn't been changed someone higher up the chain and makes as little sense as the first decision. It is true that the Chiefs run the Navy, they are just smart enough to make the officers think that they do.

In the military we have watches. It is a collateral duty that requires you "babysit" something. There are fire watches, quarterdeck watches, etc, etc, etc. Here in camp, we have figured out a way to get a day off called, The Scorpion Watch. I cannot say much about the details ofhow the watch works, but just know that we rotate the watch and everyone "HAS" to do it at least once a week. Pretty slick of us, right. We are SeaBees, ADAPT and OVERCOME is our hidden motto.

We have had some mail issues, which has really hurt moral, but that is getting worked out by the higher ups (scary as that may be). As soon as I ahve SET address, I'll get it to Michelle and she can forward it or I'll post it here. I appreciate the few e-mails I have recieved and great amount of support my family is recieveing from all of you. My mother-in-law, Patsy has been a tremendous support to Michelle it won't be soon forgotten, THANKYOU VERY MUCH!!

And, in closing, I DID IT!! Ya, I have purchased a 2007, Pearl Pewter Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic here in Iraq. It will be delivered to the dealer of my choice a few weeks before I get home. I cannot wait to get home and ride! Forget my wife and kids, right? Just wanna get home to the scooter. Only kidding, but it is surely another thing on the list of things that I cannot wait to do when I get done here. Mic, you know I am only kidding about getting home to you. You are top of the list, baby!

Anyway, that is all from here, keep the support comming shake the hand of ANYONE you see in a military uniform. Especially someone who's been here, Afghanistan or Gulf War one. They've been through it, and want you to appreciate their service.

All My Best To All Of You!

A big hearty !S to you, sir.

Kinda wild that he sounds 10x as optimistic about being over there as he ever has about the Raiders, eh? :D

It's because he doesn't have to see the season this year.

More from SBE...

Hello All!

This is thoughest and saddest update I have had to write to you all to date. First, the purpose of this update is to let you al know that I am fine. However, the war has claimed it's first member of the NMCB 18 family.

Construction Electrician 2nd Class Charles " Chuck" Kommpa, from the Billings, Montana Det, was killed this past week in an IED attack on his vehicle as he traveled to a project in the Anbar province. Chuck was freind of mine, as I new him fro our FEX this past December and got the chance to know him better during our time in Gulfport and while we lived in the same hooch in Kuwait for a week. He was a quiet guy and a great SeaBee! He didn't have alot to say, but his actions spoke volumes. He was a guy who would do just about anythig for anyone without seeking praise, he deflected attention away from himself. He was a devout man, loved the outdoors and took a great deal of pride in his hunting trophies.Chuck loved his wife and 2 kids and also took a great deal of pride in talking about his family. He was a great guy, period. Never a bad word about anything or anyone, dedicated and hard working. I'll miss him, as will the Battalion. Please say a prayer for CE2 Komppa's family as they have to struggle with this tragedy. Also, please continue to pray for the safety and speedy return of the rest of us. Chuck, we'll miss you brother. Heaven just got one hell of a SeaBee! Farewell Brother!

On a lighter note, this has been a week of transition for us here at our det as we hand the keys to the project over to our active duty brothers. With the passing of CE2, the stress of turnover and other mitigating factors, it was time for a stress reliever. Well, myself and 2 buddies took it upon ourselves to relieve some stress and generate a few laughs. Yesterday, while bored to tears on the project site, we decided to "borrow" the new Project Superintendant's HumVee. Suffice to say, she was pissed! We wentto the fire station after a brief chase to purchase some t-shirts. Of course, as luck would have it, they were out of shirts. As we returned, she was leaving with the Project QC and safety P.O. and gave us a stare that we should all earn Purple Hearts for. Once she returned, it was butt chewing time. After some heated negotiation, we were allowed to return to work with a stern set of rules. Of course, we took little time to forget those rules and went about our business of being complacent and bored. Our new project starts next week, so all will be back to normal soon. Just remember that "The Commitee" is now a huge menace to all projects, we will infiltrate and disrupt any future bad moral and boredom with antics that would make any old school SeaBee proud.

So, that's about it from Iraq for now. Again, pray for CE2's family during this tough time, and pray that the 5, E-5's that form "The Committee, do not go to Mast anytime soon. I love and miss you all and look forward to getting back to the States soon. Thanks Mic for being a great ear and shoulder to cry on this past week. I do not know how I would have dealt with this week, without your support and love. You are the best wife ever and I LOVE YOU!

Yeah, it's easy for people here to pontificate for or against the War in Iraq, but most of us truly don't realize what it's like to be there. It's damn true that we all owe a debt of gratitude to those of you that are overseas. Thanks and here's to getting home ASAP.

Latest news from SBE...

Hello Gang,

Well, here we are, a few days before Thanksgiving and guess what, I AM STILL IN IRAQ!!! Alot has been going on which explains why I haven't sent an update is a while. Also, many of you are new to my Update mailing list so WELCOME ABOARD! Hopefully you have been getting the updates forwarded from another person who gets them first hand. If not, bad on the people who haven't been helping me out. So, lets fill you in on the latest......

I have adjusted to my new surroundings here at my new assignment. The place is much nicer than I had heard and far better than TQ ever was. TQ is a dump when compared to this place. The palm trees and grass are a far cry from the dust bowl of TQ. It also appears to be a little safer. The best thing is I am no longer pouring concrete! I have been at the Builder Shop, doing odds and ends for the many Marines, outside SeaBees and Army types that ask for favors. Fuel boxes, turret covers, shelves, gun racks, you name it, they ask for it. After all that, we started framing a pole barn. I can't say what it will be used for, but suffice to say, it's high end and "people" love the progress.

Chow is about the same, and very repetitive. I don't go very often, sometimes once every other day. I usally stick to the very limited selection of microwave foods that we can get in our PX/BX. We have had some high profile visitors here, Chuck Norris was here for a visit and the band "Shinedown" did a show that wowed the hundreds that were there. Of course, I missed it, but my freinds in the "Committee" went and told me all about it. We were given 2 beers last Saturday night. That was a gift from the Marines in celebration of their birthday. MAN THAT WAS NICE.

We are down to about 120-130 days left in country. Most of us are sick of being here and getting tired of the garbage. But just when we think things are drab, we get a little excitement. I am well, as well as can be expected. If you are new, we always appreciate mail, my address is:
