David Allen Coe dead at 86.

He could make good music when he put his mind to it, but he was a prick.

Probably more outlaw than the outlaws. My pops loved him. My middle name is after his. My mom wouldn't let my dad pick the first name so he got the middle.
He was super racist, older dude been to prison so maybe I shouldn't be so judgmental, but he was also an ass to his fans.

We just had a family get together at the park yesterday, just about every race you could think of was there except Asian.
Not sure what the deal is with the Asians probably too smart...

Yeah by all accounts he was a POS of a human. Same with Hank Jr. I don't really get caught up in the personal side of famous people though. I have enough of my own problems to worry about.

Your favorite music appears to be racist country and Phil Ansemo...
:sneak:

Just kidding man, I agree with you. If we didn't listen to music made by assholes there wouldn't be much to listen to.

Meh. No different than listening to an Ice Cube album talking about the white devil and all that.

I grew up mostly in rural NorCal but my dad lived in the East Bay and there was a time where my older brother was running with the BASH dudes. He wasn't really racist even, it more about protection for him. Being a white kid with a biker looking white trash dad in a largely black neighborhood wasn't easy on him. He never really tripped on me having friends of different races, he'd just tell me to be careful about the situations I put myself in. Funny thing is that he's married to an Asian chick now.

Ice Cube is a racist ass mofo! lol

Coe took racism to another level and I'm not talking about some quote taken out of context a few decades ago. The songs were so racist I can no longer find them on the net.

This is just some of the trash he wasted his talent on...

Supposedly, Coe released those albums as a joke.

Again, who knows with him? He thrived on attention and pushing limits.

I have never listened to those albums and have zero desire to do so. If they were a joke, they were a Pyrrhic gag that likely cost him his due place in the HOF.

Jimmie Rodgers died at age 35 in 1933 of TB.
So many have covered this old song I can't even name them all.

I wonder who his influences were?

It's blues and yodeling mixed together, which is pretty much the formula for early country music. I think they used to call it railroad music.

I think the haunting quality of Appalachian folk can be heard at times as well.
