****Official Book Thread****

Old school;
Charles Dickens
Arthur Conan Doyle
John Le Carre
George Orwell
Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” remains my favorite book of all time. I’ve read Homer’s “Odyssey” three or four times. I went through a phase where I devoured O. Henry’s short stories. And, people can say whatever, but I freaking love Shakespeare! Recently read “Catcher in the Rye” and thought it pretty much sucked. His little sister was the only saving grace.

This book messed me up when I was a wee lil one.
Remember that one from when I was a kid. Some sad shit. Comes back into my head now and again.

Not just me then. It's been more than 35 years since I last read it, maybe even 40, and, like you said, the fucker still crosses the mind from time to time. I think the professionals call that trauma or something. :pound:

I'm tempted to order a copy.

You are better than me with Shakespeare.
We had to read it in English Literature classes in school and the book would have his original text on the right hand page with
a modern translation on the left hand page !
So i never really got into it - book was A Midsummer Nights Dream

"Catcher in the Eye" sucked. Someone described it as nothing but outdated shock. The description works. When it was released, swearing in books was rare. So it is a dinosaur in that regard.

Agree. It had some sexual references in there. My favorites as a kid were Robinson Crusoe, Call of the Wild, Great Expectations, Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Anyone try that app that gives you the crib notes versions of books?

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are all-time great novels.

I love Arthurian legend but all the fan groups online are only interested in making every character gay. Instead of actual discussion.

Does anyone even care if he finishes now? It would be pretty dumb to change the story from the show at this point no matter how badly it ended.
