Yeah, I know it's only Saturday, but I think we have a puncher's chance in this game.

BTW, I presume that Josh McCown is the starter?
 
Is Favre starting - if so do you bring the heat to go after his bad elbow/shoulder ?
 
If we can get some pressure on Fave early he'll tend to makes mistakes. He still thinks he's God and can throw the ball anywhere he wants. Aso and Company may see it differently. The key is pressure on Favre early and often. Their running game is a shambles but then we tend to make guys like that look all pro. :rolleyes:

In any case I think we have a shot albeit slim. We just might surprise.

I betcha JaSavior is inactive (3rd QB).
 
The first half is critical.
Keep it close and we've got a realistic shot at it.
Fall behind 14-3 and we're toast, IMO.

Putting some early points on the board will do us WONDERS in this game.
 
1. We need to be successful running the ball early.

2. I disagree with Bones that GB's running game is in shambles. I'd argue that it has improved quite a bit from the first half of the season. No, it isn't LaDanian Tomlinson... but it could very well be Kolby Smith.

3. Tackle, tackle, and tackle. They've got some receivers who are money after the catch.

4. If it is snowing, throw the deep ball to Porter all night and then toss one up high in the endzone to Ron Curry. Fuck Champ Bailey.
 
I know it's a big if, but IF we aren't shocked & disrupted by the cold, I think the snowy field plays to our advantage. We play an ugly brand of football. Run, play action, run, short pass, run, run, short pass, run, run, medium pass, run, run, (you get the point).

As for defense, I suspect try to accomplish what we always try to accomplish. Pressure from the front 4 only and let our LB'ers roam for the INT. Clemens & Burgess has been playing pretty well of late.....

I haven't been especially impressed with their run defense this year. It's certainly a far sight better than the last two we faced, but they're not the 2000 Ravens either. Commit, and don't let an early Green Bay score change your approach. Make them crowd the LOS. Test Woodson's turf toe if he plays. Brady Poppinga is their weakest link in terms of coverage from their LBs. Exploit him with Miller, Griff, etc. They're CB depth is also suspect. Spread them out, but for god's sake, keep Kampman doubled.

They can run the ball. Pretty damn well, actually. Against our D, they may go for 2 bills on the ground.

Jennings is a mad man. Love that dude...but in a totally hetero, you can't have my Bud Light sort of way. I think Aso puts the clamps on Driver. Routt really has to bring his A game if he's going to keep GJ in check. Jones on Fabs should be interesting as well.

I still say we go after Woodson whenever we get them to drop a safety. That said, they likely will keep their single safety working behind Wood since he's dinged, and since Harris really doesn't need the help. I hope we don't get too bold in those instances. He doesn't typically allow his man much separation.

This game is winnable, but we're going to have to play good run defense to do it. A corner blitz here and there wouldn't be a bad plan either.

I say we test them relatively early and see how the refs are calling it. Woodson plays a very physical ball game and (as we well know), if they're calling it tight, he's a penalty waiting to happen.

Agreed on the first 3 points, but this one...

Josh McCown throwing the deep ball... in the snow??

First of all, we can't protect him long enough for Porter to get a step. Kampman and Biamila will be crashing the ends all day long.

Second, the thought of McCown tossing up a rainbow wounded duck in the snow against C-Wood is terrifying.

Now, put Russell in there with Fargas and O'Neal protecting him and I can see it. Fargas should have a good enough day (:bow:) that we can legitimately set a few of those up with the play action.

I hadn't thought of that, but you're right. And with his toe hurting his ability to turn and run, he's going to be a little extra grabby this week. Could make for a lot of free yards/1st downs.

But, like Ringo said, McCown going up top is like a snaggle-toothed bitch going down. You just really fear what the outcome is going to be.
 
Favre is the key factor. If GB can get decent production from him, they will win. The Raiders have to focus on the QB, let the other guys beat them, they can't do magic. Favre is a nervous guy, some big mistakes early in the game can cause a chain reaction. Rob Ryan needs a strong effort from his secondary. Pass pressure must be get better. It has been mediocre at best this year. It won't be enough to affect GB passing game.

As for the Raiders offence, they have improved lately, but now they're forced to produce. They will need more than 27 points to win there, GB can score many points.

The weather gives the theoreticall advantage to the packers, but in fact is the running game that dominates the harsh environments, you don't hav to put the ball int the air, whether theres water, wind or snow in it. Fargus has been takin care of the ball as opposite to last years. If the Raiders offence can move the ball on the ground they will contribute to control Favre by keeping him outa field.

Beat out by an undrafted FA from Division II school. That about says it all IMO. Many scoffed when Kiffin retained Eugene after the final cutdown, but perhaps the retention of Schwiegert was the mistake. Bwahahahahaha

No, I meant Champ. It was in reference to the last big "snow" game we played, where Collins hooked up multiple times with Porter on the deep ball and Curry had that amazing catch in the end zone. I was just being goofy.

In closing, Fuck Champ Bailey.
