Natty kind of scares me off the guy a klittle with his thoughts because he's seen him alot more than I have, but I thought a month ago he might be an Al kind of guy:

I think Young success helps him because I haven't seen anyone question Russell for playing out of the shotgun like they did with VY, nor is he questioned about playing from a spread offense... Hell, LSU is using a lot of the basic premise of the run and shoot...

As a SC guy that had to endure the many Marinovich comparisons to Leinart, let me be the first to say that Brady is Ron Powlus with better coaching :p

... but if you kill it in the most important game of the year, then I have no problem passing judgement... just like Vince Young's performance against the Trojans pretty much caused him to leapfrog Leinart.

That said, if this Russell can really throw it 87 yards, and if this Russell is really 6'6, and if this Russell does decide to come out, and if Davis doesn't trade out... he'll be the #1 pick.

Just from what I saw I think Quinn is a lot more accomplished with reading defenses. He's at a disadvantage because ND doesn't have the players LSU does. But then you put the kid in a Raider uni (either of them) and he'll have less talent than LSU too. :p

I dunno. Happy I'm not making this first pick. I think I'll take the easy way out and put my money on Peterson. It's a lot less complicated.

Brady Quinn looked very Andrew Walter like tonight. LSU always has a Doucette or two on the squad.
 
Russell is going to skyrocket to the top 5 if he declares IMO.

So Charlie Weis is mates with Bon Jovi, interesting.

Quinn was unimpressive in this game. He turned the ball over twice and didn't really make any plays when under pressure. His team was over matched, but he didn't have great accuracy on his throws. Weis stated he thinks he will be the third best QB in the NFL in 3 years now if that is not coachspeak then it is a very strong argument for taking him. Personally, I am unconvinced.

Russell looks so effortless throwing the ball. He looks so smooth passing even when it is 60 yards downfield to the opposition under no pressure. He also turned the ball over twice despite facing little to no pressure and with his receivers having a talent edge over the defense. If he could cut down on his mistakes and turnovers then he could be great. I am again unconvinced.

I saw the Bradshaw interview before the game, pulls out the Raider helmet and Brady kinda blew that off, as well as the Lions helmet, pulls out the Browns helmet and his eyes light up.. Guess he kids from Ohio somewhere and has pretty much indicated where he'd like to go

Good for him.. I say fuck him anyways. He'll do no better than Walter behind this line

David Carr aint doing dick, didnt Eddie Munster rip the Cards for passing on Trent Dilfer?

Akili Smith, Rick Mirer, Testeverde, Dilfer, Leaf.. man it goes on and on.. all considered "franchise" QB's

What you saw last night is exactlly what will happen to Quinn in a Raiders uni, if not worse.

I personally believe its all about the OL/RB and a good offensive scheme

Get a good system in there, cut back on the penalties, safe throws, avoid turnovers and effectively run the ball and you can move the ball downfield with a decent QB

Rich Gannon 4th rd, Brad Johnson 9th rd, Tom Brady 6th rd , Matt Hassellbeck 6th rd, Jake Delhomme- Undrafted..... All went took their teams to the SB the last 5 years

I'm all for playing the hand of dafting Quinn, to make pee go down the Browns leg.. Trade down with the Browns which will cost them 800 points

the 4th pick in rd 2 = 540, the 4th pick in rd 3 = 260

We got Bingo!!!!

Trade Moss to Atlanta for Schaub and toss in a 3rd rd pick we get from trading down

Take Marshsawn Lynch in rd 1 and grab either Olsen or Miller TE in rd 2 and grab the best avaliable center with the other 2nd rd pick

Schaub/Lynch/Olsen/Kyle Young would be a helluva improvement

Every year I get scared away from drafting a QB, and this year is no different.
I do like Russell right now, but by the draft I will likely pull away from him as well.

I think we have to take a skilled offensive player if we stay this high......hopefully it isn't a kicker!!!

That Adrian Peterson clip looked awfully good to me...

I'm for drafting a play making RB.. fuck a buncha of QB's , I'd be okay with Calvin Johnson, only if we trade down grab some early picks and land Michael Bush from Louisville.. I'm just not sold anymore on the big time WR's

Hell, the Chiefs damn sure didnt get to become a top end offense with Eddie fuckin Kennison and Willy By God Parker did they?

Trade down no more than 3rd (Assuming the Browns win the coin toss) and grab a another early 2nd and 3rd

Browns - Quinn
Lions- Joe Thomas
Raiders - Adrian Peterson or Marsahwn Lynch

Theres word that Kevin Jones injury is worse than reported and that the Lions could shock people and take Peterson at #2

If in fact AD does go #2 and Calvin is still there, I say trade down again 2-3 more slots then take Lynch
 
Its a little unfair to say its Quinn's team fault he couldnt win another big game, but give him the credit when they are beating up on the likes of Air Force and SomethingSomething University.

Now I must admit that Russell looks like a raw talent that is fairly rare. Though I'm still Peterson to the fullest, those lasers he was rifling do get stuck in your head. The only question is how raw is he? Too raw in Oakland is a waste of time to draft and I worry that he'll look identical to Aaron Brooks with no protection. What I mean by that is that he'll get caught up in tryiung to make plays he shouldnt too often and throwing himself sideways into trouble.
 
Well, Russell certainly looked awesome against the Irish last night and I thought Quinn looked poor. Quinn's throwing motion doesn't impress me and the ball came out slow and soft. He doesn't seem to be able to really put much zip on the ball and that will lead to a lot of INT's if he tries to throw that 15-yd. out at the next level. That being said, I do think Quinn has the potential to be a good starting NFL QB and has the mental makeup to succeed in the pros.

As for Russell, what can I say, I've watched the guy all 3 years he's played at LSU and even taught a class with him as a student. Up until 7 games ago I think you could sum up his college career as "disappointing." This year he had a 68.5% completion percentage which is up from about 55% the previous 2 years combined. I've never doubted Russell's physical abilities but his smarts and decision making have always held him back. It appears as though he's turned the corner somewhat. My problem is I'm not sure if this is the permanent new and improved Russell or just one hell of a stretch of games.

Obviously, his stock is going to be about as high as possible after the Sugar Bowl. The only thing I can see boosting it even more is if he came back next year to win a National Championship or Heisman Trophy. My first instinct would be that Russell goes pro. If so, he has all the measureables that Al LOVES. He could be a guy that Al rolls the dice on with the #1 overall pick and, yes, Vince Young's success last year is going to do nothing but help Russell. I'm just not sold enough on him yet to think of him as a bona fide #1 overall guy.
