It is really fucked up, well especially California (of course). I don't see how it is even constitutional. The government says you are responsible for someone else no matter what just because you were married? I know some other horror stories, I knew this doctor, stand up guy, made probably $500K a year. His wife was a lush and a loser, running around driving drunk (with kids in the car and shit even), she ended up going to prison and he was still paying her half his paycheck.

California is bad. I'm not far behind in NY. Fortunately, they limit alimony years but child support still goes until they are 21. I have full custody of my son. Half custody of his twin sister. They are both away at college. I still send her a child support check every month.

21? I didn't even know that was a thing. I guess I should thank my lucky stars my marriage is working out... My buddy is currently getting bent over a barrel. They didn't even have kids, what the fuck does he owe her for when they didn't have kids? Shit she should have to pay him back for taking care of her ass for 15 years.
