Sounds like me, but I was also really into punk starting in the mid 80's. Early 90's I was really into industrial.Nah I’m definitely not into country music at all. Actually can’t stand it. I’m more into music that no guy ever admits to liking. The Cure, Depeche Mode, U2 the Police all the “New Wave” and post punk stuff. I also have a soft spot for the old industrial music like Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy, Ministry. It’s not unusual for me to still jam out in the car to some Nivana, and Alice In Chains. I was also definitely into the whole rave scene in the late 80’s early 90’s. Even though you won’t really see me listening to it anymore.
Like most everyone I still enjoy kicking back and listening to the sounds of the mid 70’s and old school R&B and rap before Puffy…
I just never got into the whole scene once he and Big E came along outside of Tribe Called Quest.
As for hair bands it just wasn’t my thing. Obviously some songs will always be good and if I hear them anyone around my car will have to hear them too, but I don’t exactly seek the bands out. I think I would rather listen to 80’s pop than something like Ratt or Dio and Cinderella.
Oddly enough I’ve found the older I get the more I enjoy some bluegrass. But it’s very limited to instrumentals and or minimal vocals. I’m considering going to a thing called MerleFest this year. It’s a bluegrass Appalachian Mountain thing that I had heard about but never considered going to in the past.My grandmother played country music every single day but I wanted nothing to do with it growing up. Then somewhere along the way I came around to it in recent years. I think at some point those old songs just start making too much sense to hate.
Ya I liked punk but looking back I wanted to like punk more than I liked punk. Don’t get me wrong stuff like Minutemen, Fugazi, Black Flag, DK and the Sex Pistols were cool and all. I just wasn’t as into it as some of my friends were. Although going into SHARP clubs and bars was alway a blast in a I just came here to fight kind of way.Sounds like me, but I was also really into punk starting in the mid 80's. The wife and I had been considering selling the home and doing the whole homestead thing for the last few years. Not the whole move to Idaho/Montana thing and live off the land stuff. More get 5-10 acres, chickens, pigs, and maybe some goats with a bigger garden than what we have had in the past. Well that led to some of the YouTube guys that do it and they often have an ambient bluegrass type music in the background. So ya..
I liked all those bands and many more. Picked up Ministry's Mind album in 89 and went fully into the industrial scene. Saw them in Seattle in 93 and just saw them again in May of last year with Gary Numan and Frontline Assembly.Ya I liked punk but looking back I wanted to like punk more than I liked punk. about the same time I saw them in Virginia Beach or was that DC? Shrugs… I saw them with KMFDM I think.. was a long ass time ago. Hell it could have been Front Line Assembly. I would go from a club one night with all the goths then the next day I was with all the ravers up in DC jamming out to DJ Dan, Carlos, Josh Wink and Carl Cox. I always said I loved the music, but we all know it was all about the drugs.
I’ll trust you.Like going to a country bar for the women. The struggle is real.
Have you checked out The Dead South?Oddly enough I’ve found the older I get the more I enjoy some bluegrass. But it’s very limited to instrumentals and or minimal vocals.
