BUCS TO SHIP PLUMMER TO RAIDERS?

There's speculation in league circles that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will eventually trade quarterback Jake Plummer to the Oakland Raiders.

The thinking is that the Raiders are interested in acquiring Plummer as a short-term starter while expected No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell gets ready to play, but that there's no way that the Raiders and Broncos ever could have done business together.

Enter the Bucs, who could end up being the straw man for a deal that puts Plummer in silver and black.

Stay tuned.

I'd be okay with this becasue if JR and AWAL can't beat out Plummer then, at least we'd have a starter with experience.
That said - he'd probably then stay retired.

He sure won't be The Snake in Oakland. We already had the real Snake here, years ago.

On the plus side:

* His ability to move around matches up pretty well with what Kiff did at SC
* He'll be motivated to stick it to the Rat

On the down side:

* He's Jake Plummer

Depends on what we'd have to give up I guess... If we're not going to draft a guy at 1, I'd prefer we try to trade for Carr instead... but as a stopgap to a Russell/Quinn, Plummer is better than most of the spares out there (Brooks, Bledsoe etc..)

Lets look at the situation here in Oaktown before we start getting picking. We have been a joke for 4 years and players might not wanna come here now. Their are not alot of options for a day 1 starter left. Plummer is a bum but he can play at a high level at times as well. He didnt have a problem kicking our ass plenty of times in Denver. I dont think Plummer is worht argueing over or anything, but he would be a nice QB to have help bring us back to .500 and above for a year or so. Then maybe we can groom the future QB or wait until next year and take Brian Brohm etc. We have alot of holes and all of them cant be filled with players who are young and promising. If we can get back to repectability next season and get some decent QB'n from Walter or Plummer, then next year we will have more money than all these teams and a chance to get some people in here who are young and talented. I am all for building for two years from now not next year. Id be happy at 8-8 next season. Its not what i want but im trying to be realistic. One draft isnt going to turn around our offense enough to let us compete for a SB. Young Coach/ Young Team... next year is another step back to greatness.

On the one hand, he can't be any worse than Aaron Brooks.

On the other hand, I said Aaron Brooks couldn't be any worse than Kerry Collins.

The downside has a slew of problems with it. :(

Unless he's bootlegging, he sucks as a QB. Brooks is a better pocket passer than him. Which doesn't say much. I'd actually take Brooks over him. Maybe that sounds silly. But Plummer's stats don't do him justice on how bad he is at decision making.

For what it is worth, the NFLPA has filed a grievance on the grounds that Plummer had already filed his retirement paperwork which (they say) should have made his rights untradeable. If the NFLPA grievance works out, his rights will be returned to Denver.
