Busted out. New sticks. Why? Cuz I can.

Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons. Graphite shaffs. Thought I'd switch since I'm not getting any younger but went with stiff version instead of the reg stell jobs I had on my Mizuno MX23's. Who knows. I suck.

Also, hit the new TaylorMade r7 Superquad driver at a demo day couple of weeks asgo...10.5 Stiff...I was impressed. Well see how much my new irons "impriove" my game...

You guys buy any new toys lately? Actually isn't that part of the fun of golf in general? 'Ya know buying new shit hoping "it's the equipment"?

I'm sure all of that means something meaningful to those that golf? You know I don't golf, lacking "culture" as I most certainly do.

All the same, congrats on the new (adult) toy.

P.S. - Bought a new car. (2007 Chevy Impala - Black on Black)

That is sweet, I have a Maroon 04 and I love that car. All leather sun room, illegally tinited windows,,,,,which I just got a ticket for about 2 months ago....

I just got a new adult toy as well (beside the wifes new cans) a leather lazy-boy recliner............Oh How I love to be the king of the castle.....

The newest toy is the 40" LCD 1080P Sony. But every time I play tennis (after a layoff of about 3 years) I wonder, do I need a new racket? When I took it to get re-strung the guy behind the counter looked at it, then at me, as if we both came from the stone age. My return look said, "Just string the mother."

Now that I'm used to it again, I still wonder, "Would a new one: add a little more power, help my spin, clean up my footwork, etc."

I purchased a set of Callaway Big bertha irons...Went back to my roots. More forgiving, but less workability.

Still have the R7 quad driver and have hit nothing like it since buying it a year ago. (Sumo, Fusion etc. included)

Realized my skills have diminished to the point that my forged blades, with 6.5 rifle shafts are a little too much for my game now.

Traded in the two and three irons for an extra wedge and a hybrid...Im getting old I guess.

Experiment over. I didn't like my new irons. Traded them back. Got screwed but I went back to my Mizuno irons. I just hit the ball better with them and I get better feel from the steel shafts. No more experimenting.

Sheese.

Playing tomorrow here:Suncadia

Everybody I have takled to says the place is just great.

Edit: Turk...what ou have to say about this?

I haven't been out much this summer, my youngest daughter was in town for 6 weeks so she gets my undivided attention.

I've probably played some of my worst golf the past two or three times I've been out. Just can't seem to get anything consisting working, especially my irons and hybrids. I'm either pulling everything left or pushing everything right. I really need to invest in a new set of irons and get back to practicing 3-4 times a week.

Any suggestions on a set of forgiving irons? I've always heard the Pings are very forgiving.

Well the practicing 3-4 times a week would be the key IMO. Playing once a week or less without practice won't work.

The over the top "pulls" were killin' me the last few years. I've just been concentrating on a full shoulder turn and dropping those arms and keeping my shoulder back on the down swing. Huge difference.

I just bought a Nickent 4-Ironwood Hybrid. Amazing. I get so much height on the ball unlike my 4i. They are just easier to hit -- case closed.

Relative to forgiving irons frankly I just love my Mizuno MX-23's. As I mentioned I got the bug to get some new irons but quickly found my MX-23's were really better for me. They are billed as game improvement sticks but yet they have forged heads which gives you the feel you like to have. They have been replaced by the new MX-25 model which are very similar. I have heard the Ping Raptures are nice too although I have never been a fan of Ping. I just never liked the way they looked. So if I were you Turk I'd go hit some of those Mizuno MX-25's and see how you like them. Compare them to the Ping's. Both are cavity back game improvement style irons so I'm sure you can't go wrong.

Thanks Bones, I'll try to test those Mizunos. Usually my faults are something easily corrected like alignment or grip but when I take a lesson, they always come up with something else I have to think about:shakehead: You know how that goes.

My buddy plays the Nickent Iron Woods. He seems to hit them pretty good. I hit the Bazookas. It's nice being able to go for the pin when you're 180-210 yards out and being able to stick the green. Never had that confidence with my lower irons to make the long approach shots. I've probably hit some of my best shots with the Hybrids but have a tendency to hook them bad when I miss. I also like them for my second shot on par 5's which I have no shot at reaching.

Definitely. Something comes up that NEVER came up before. WTF?

Exactly. For me to hit my 4i 190 I have to hit it perfect. Then, holding the green is another story. I found with the 4 ironwood that I get a lot more height on the shot and chances are better of landing softly on the green. And they are just much more forgiving and easier to hit in general. I'm sold on them.

Hybrids or 'ironwoods' are a GREAT invention.

I love my 21* hybrid (Nike CPR, couple years old)

I replaced my 2-3-4 iron for a hybrid I can hit higher, straighter and work both ways.

More and more Pro's are dropping long irons for those things...Except Tiger, but he doesnt count. ;)

As Lefty put it ``only Tiger can play with inferior equipment and still dominate". :D

I'm really into my new hybrids. The 'ol 4i and 3i have been retired to the downstairs hallway closet with the rest of the stuff that doesn't work. :D
