Absolutely he had a huge play in that run for a TD looked like Superman flying through the sky and made me throw my damn remote against the damn wall. Was an absolute put it on me type play. I just disagree that he carries that team that particular game. As much as it pains me to say it was a great team win.

Trust me I’d rather just say Miami got “Dozed over”. It would feel better than knowing that Indiana was just that much better as a team.

Honestly just a great team win and I really don’t think any one person or individual put it “on his back”. 2 4th down plays doesn’t make you that guy. Going 16-27 and zero passing TD’s didn’t win them the championship.

I can look at Ohio State and Oregon games and say yep.. Doza lit it up and dominated the other team. Missing only 5 passes and throwing 8 TD’s in back to back games is damn near the definition of put it on me “I’ve got this”.

Playing semantics here. They don’t get to keep running the ball without his conversions. Miami was a better team with a lesser QB and Fernando put the team on his back and willed them to victory.

You do realize Indiana was the 2nd ranked defense and 3rd ranked offense all year right.

Actually Nevermind… I’m going with Miami got Dozed Over by a generational QB and if not for his Tom Brady like throws and Lamar Jackson like run The U would have won.
It feels better that way knowing he’ll be on my team.

Do those rankings even really mean anything in college football? Anyone who watched that game could see Miami had more talent overall and Mendoza was the difference between the two.

I just don’t agree with this at all. The difference was a blocked punt or a missed FG. That Indiana defense didn’t allow a point before half time. That defense was on fire. And the run game put up a damn good showing vs a solid run defense.

In no way will I say Doza played poorly or didn’t do his part in that win. I just don’t agree Doza put it on his back and willed the team to win despite all odds type shit. That was a team win for Indiana. Without the blocked punt Miami wins. Without that defense shutting Miami out in the 1st half Miami wins. Granted without that 4th QTR TD drive where Indiana went up by 10 Indiana loses. Doza made the play of the game (season maybe) with that run.

The other two games vs Ohio State and Oregon 5 incompletions and 8 TD’s ya that’s hero shit. 16-27 one rushing TD ? That’s a solid game that was managed well. But it was a total team win not Doza dragging Indiana across the finish line kicking and screaming.

Good post. Mendoza has been incredible all playoffs.

His OK game against a stellar Miami D still led to clutch plays and a fuckin win with a moment that will be on tv for decades.

High floor is a thing idiots. Especially when you have sucked for 20 years.
 
QBs need to win games in all kinds of ways. I look at him having what objectively was a not great game and still being able to do just enough to scrape out the win as a positive. Shows he doesn't fall apart when things don't go his way. It also shows that he's not going to put his ego above the needs of the team. He's Bo Nix without the Elway cannon arm at a minimum and St. Bo just got Denver to a conference championship game in his second season.

I mean if we could get a game like Doza had vs any of these playoff teams I’d be quite happy. I’d also not like to pretend he went 24-27 240 and threw 2 TD’s and ran one in while the rest of the team was struggling to get by. That HC out coached, Miami. That team did what it did to damn near every other team in football and ran the ball and shut down the run. Then blocked a punt again for like 5th or so time this year.

Maybe more “talent” in Miami at some spots but we are not gonna pretend this was some Indiana vs Alabama /Ohio State discrepancy shit either. Both Miami and Indiana will have between 5-6 guys drafted this year.

The wining QB doesn’t always drag his team to a win… That’s not how it works. Especially when the defense made a pick to seal the game and the ST’a blocked a kick for a TD and that was the difference in score.

It’s like saying Carson Beck dragged Miami to a win vs Ohio State despite having a talent deficit. Nobody said that ever… Miami won by playing great defense, running the ball and forcing points off a turnover (punt block)

Again, I think it's just semantics here. I think he did drag his team to victory. Couple amazing plays on 4th down to keep a drive alive or score. Got the shit knocked out of him. He doesn't score on that 4th and 5 they probably lose as Miami had the momentum. Done talking about it though.
