I think you are thinking of Black Sabbath. I think they were called Rat Salad as a blues band.
Led Zeppelin with Jimmy Page were put together as a super group sort of. Both Page and JPJ were highly regarded studio musicians and Page had already been in The Yardbirds which also had Clapton and Beck.

Sabbath used to be called Earth and Polka Tulk (gods only know wtf that means). Rat Salad was a Sabbath instrumental track.

You are correct. Not sure why I thought they had called the band that, cool track though!

The Van Halen brothers considered the name Rat Salad before they became Van Halen
