Music Discussion

Ironically, streaming has removed the shackles that artists used to blame the record companies for.

Streaming and social media allow them direct access to the consumer without the corporate middleman so there's no excuse for compromising artistry. Making shitty music that nobody likes is entirely their fault.
Streaming companies are robbing them blind compared to the deals for records.

Directly from the tracks themselves, yeah. But they have the opportunity to diversify in ways previous artists never had so the earning potential kinda evens out. You just have to adapt to the business model. Either way, it was more a comment about the quality of the product vs. the financial side of things.

Not to mention the money aspect of it. When you read about some of the deals these bands got as new artists when the record companies ruled everything.

Van Halen owed Warner Bros two million dollars after going platinum after their first tour. It's why they fired their first manager and hired Noel Monk.

Yeah it's just a different business model now that has its own advantages and disadvantages. You have to be social media savvy now for sure. The ones that figure out how to monetize that are going to be fine.

Best album - Master of Puppets although Stepper's Appetite for Destruction would have to be a close second.

Best AC/DC album - Dirty Deeds. I have a theory that everybody's favorite AC/DC album is the first one they owned.

Best Black Sabbath album - Anything with Ozzy is obviously awesome. I was always partial to Never Say Die because it didn't seem to get the accolades the rest got.

I have heard of Turnpike Troubadoors but had no idea how to spell fucking Troubadoors.

Ozzy was my most played spotify artist last year which I was proud of haha.

The year before it was Taylor Swift but in my defense my wife and I share an account and she plays the same damn shit all day long at work lmfao. I only know "Shake it off" I swear!

The Cult are seriously underrated and Purple is my favorite STP album by far

I've just started to appreciate The Cult more in the last couple of years.

Never really understood the hate that STP used to get. I understand people that just though the grunge bands in general were too commercial, but a lot of people that liked the other main bands seemed to really dislike STP.

Other albums for me:

Check Your Head - Beastie Boys
Prison Bound - Social Distortion
Temples of Boom - Cypruess Hill
Nola - Down
Unfun - Jawbreaker
Kill em All and Master of Puppets - Metallica
How will I laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today - Suicidal Tendencies
The Mad Season album
The Operation Ivy album is probably my all time favorite

That's what stands out scrolling to library. That and a bunch of random smaller artist stuff. It's really an impossible task.

I didn't like STP. I did like all the earlier albums from the main grunge bands better also. I've always liked The Cult.

I hated Pearl Jam. They seemed the the band version of a dude that would tell your girlfriend you cheated on her.

STP is one of my favorite bands. Sad they got lumped into the whole grunge thing. Every one of their albums sounded different from the last

Alice In Chains was my favorite of the main bands of that era. Not really grunge but it's also when I started paying attention to Corrosion of Conformity.
