Music Discussion

Nobody here liked 80's new wave or even Depeche Mode? I knew a lot of metal heads and punks in the 80's and early 90's who like that shit but were too embarrassed to admit it. I watched Night Tracks as a young kid and the new wave or anything different was the only thing that was interesting to me.

I did. Was getting bored of some of the music back then. That New Age sound was a bit of a fresh air even though some of it was a little hokey. Then I really got into old blues. Robert Johnson, Muddy, Howlin Wolf. Didn't realize then how many groups they influenced.

The 2024 Rock Hall nominees are: Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige; powerhouse singer-songwriter Mariah Carey; half-century-plus pop icon Cher; roots rock jam band Dave Matthews Band; hip-hop pioneers Eric B. & Rakim; stadium rock hitmakers Foreigner; arena-filling guitar (and talk box) pro Peter Frampton; alt hard rockers Jane’s Addiction; funky R&B legends Kool & the Gang; rock standard bearer Lenny Kravitz; Britpop poster boys Oasis; alt pop iconoclast Sinéad O’Connor; metal god Ozzy Osbourne; sophisticated R&B purveyors Sade; and alt hip-hop progenitors A Tribe Called Quest.

bigger sham than the NFL hall

Without getting into the “rock and roll” aspect of it, Oasis seems to be an odd inclusion. They’re more famous for the brothers feuding and two hit songs than being an iconic musical act.

Legacy nominees, I guess.

Which I would get but they don’t really even check that box for me. Then again, I don’t follow them so maybe they’ve been more prolific than I realize. I wouldn’t even call them the Phillip Rivers of music.

I mean legacy in the sense of one member being the son of a Beatle. #RingoPrivilege

They are pretty big but the RnR Hall is bullshit either way.

So I guess Oasis isn't being inducted.

I used to date a girl in Richmond Va whose mother was good friends with one of their mothers. It was never my thing so I never committed who it was to memory. It was 1992 -1993ish so wasn’t really my scene or hers at the time.

@Jayl Seeing how I brought up Ministry I had to plop on some old shit. I honestly have never disliked anything they have done. Can’t really speak to the last 20 years or so but, nothing I can think of. I even enjoyed their synth-pop stuff they did early on.

I know for years Al hated that stuff and said it was forced upon him by the record label. Most of the people around him deny that claim and say he was more into it then they were at the time. I’m just glad he actually came around on some of his older stuff Like Every Day is Halloween, Revenge and I’m Falling.

Those songs were definitely not what one would associate Ministry with, but the songs themselves were solid and hold a fond place in my heart. Now congregation please be seated and open your prayer guides to the book of revelations psalm 69.
