#Supergirl star Milly Alcock knows she'll face backlash by "simply existing as a woman in [franchise IP]."

"We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself."

The movie's not bad. Men are. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Same dumb shit every time.

It isn't changing any time soon. Film schools continually pump out graduates with the same mindset.

The biggest difference between George Lucas and the directors of the SW sequels resided in their educational backgrounds. Lucas was a devotee of myths, held an appreciation for Japanese cinema, and the foundational literature of Western Civilization. He didn't look to destroy or subvert but to take those timeless themes and incorporate them in new genres.

Today's directors are all about deconstruction, subversion, and postmodern nihilism.

I recommend reading Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays. Lots of choice quotes by Lucas.

It's also simple viewer demographic preferences. Women make up half of the movie going audience but historically support different genres. It doesn't fit the narrative but women aren't showing up for these movies either.
