#Supergirl is a “super-horrendous” comic book movie “with the worst script I can remember,” reads Variety’s review from @OwenGleiberman.

James Gunn said he wasn’t going into production on any movie until the script was rock-solid. For that was the overriding problem with the superhero overkill era: the films had lousy scripts, which served as grids for layering visual effects.

Gunn was right to want to take the comic-book genre back to the basics of well-structured screenwriting. So what has he done in his second DC outing? He’s given us a comic-book movie with the worst script I can remember.

If Variety is shitting on it, there's a chance it might actually be good. Probably not, though. :pound:

No spoilers but I read it basically sets up the reason for Supergirl to appear in Man of tomorrow.

You underestimate the American cinephile. Not a very bright bunch for the most part.

When I heard we were getting a drunken mess Supergirl, I thought maybe it would be good. I liked Hancock. Seems like a fun angle to tell a story from. Looks like everyone is shitting on this one, though. Fans and critics alike.

Mamoa seems to have a Leto effect.

People seem to like him, at least. Even if he does just play Jason Momoa in most everything. That hasn't translated into box office receipts, though, save for Aquaman...for some inexplicable reason.

The woman chosen to write Supergirl, as well as the upcoming Wonder Woman and Teen Titans movies, apparently had only one insignificant writing credit. Never written a movie, but gets handed three. James Gunn is looking like a disastrous hire.

Oh for fuck's sake...

The Trojan Horse popcorn bucket for ‘THE ODYSSEY’ has been revealed to be massive.

I’ve never been into superhero movies. I thought the concept of Brightburn was really cool. What if Superman chose to be evil instead of good?

Never saw Brightburn. It came and went without me noticing it, best I can recall. Could be fun if done well.

At least Homelander was entertaining for a while.

I’m currently watching this god awful movie called The Children (1980) about a busload of kids who drive through a cloud of nuclear waste and turn into zombies who roast anyone they touch. The score is by the same guy who did Friday the 13th and it sounds exactly the same.

Unbreakable had a similar idea. One of my favorite movies when most of the superhero stuff sucks in general.

I don't think he necessarily chose to be evil, he just let the bad thoughts win out. Plus, he was a hormonal teen that was into a girl not into him and didn't know how to handle it.

I mean its been a while since I watched it but I'm pretty sure he chose to fuck up a lot of people and do some evil shit.

Good point. I think I was just giving a very general synopsis for those interested.
