No, what I'm trying to say is if the Raiders drafted JR and had a milque-toast HC like Turner or Shell I'd be less inclined to take Russell... or probably any QB for that matter. Kiffen's hands-on approach can only help Russell.
 
Or Walter, for that matter.

I've never been a fan of the "lead by example" type of QBs. To me, that's a polite way of saying that a guy has no leadership skills. That's fine if you're a lineman or whatever. But as a QB, it's a recipe for failure.
 
A leader isnt cut from a cookie cutter mold where there is only one type, IMO.

Plenty of guys speak only when needed, and let their play do the talking;

Some guys yell, and kick and scream to motivate;

and some say the right things at the right time and have charisma to make guys believe in it;

I think if he was a questionable leader, or a low character guy, we would have heard it by now. All the coaches and players seem to have nothing but good things to say about his command in the huddle.

Im not worried.

The hung over on Sunday only to throw 3 TDs and have it locked up by the 4th quarter type of leader. I wonder what Goodell would've thought of the off-field lifestyles of the '70s Raiders.
 
There wouldn't be any Raiders....or at least any that weren't being pulled out of the stands every week to fill in.
 
Goodell wouldn't have minded.
